The blanking of posts that are in huge threads cannot be avoided….. but clarity on why it was done would be extremely helpful. It would also shut up/prevent misrepresentation of what factually happened.

 

That's a good point actually.  I can understand the reasoning behind mods not wanting to share the content of PMs (in fact I fully agree with said stance), but if something has been posted in an open thread then it was evidently intended for public consumption and there therefore shouldn't be any issues with at least giving a summary of what was said and why it was over the line - if indeed the original post is deemed too offensive to leave visible.

 

 

(Of course that's a whole nother debate - I'm a firm subscriber to "sticks and stones may break my bones but pixels on a screen can never hurt me", but I realise I'm old fashioned in that respect.)

I've come close a few times over the last few days, to be fair...

Sorting a handrail for my Mum after her fall a couple of weeks back. A smash on the M42 island, a ducking wide load blocking the entire M42 at rush hour (wtf is this allowed?) then roadworks all the way to her house. Then my sds drill gearbox shat itself, then I realised I had forget the tile drill bits for the rail in the shower, then I cracked a slab. What a fucking ballache. Then dickhead in convertible Land Rover (how the fuck is that even a thing unless it’s a series with it unbolted) who seems to have no understanding that you give way to the right. She soon stopped her horn when I put the reversing lights on and started rolling back. Not a great day.........

Yes. I was part of the problem but I don’t see how what I’ve said here is any different from people posting up popcorn gifs or other thread commentary.

 

For the record, the four corners of forum whinging:

 

i) Asking for a moderator to step down

To be quite frank, this could probably all be settled over a few pints and a forum Rugby, darts and tiddlywinks championship.

 

And I am genuinely sorry for the upset I caused last week.

 

Whilst I might disagree with a few people on here on a number of issues, I like to think that without knowing them in real life I can make any real judgement about them and everyone I’ve met from here has been tip-top.

had to use a big hammer today .......... 

 

I lifted each corner on the new to us C1 , each wheel off and a check over , clean and spray over any paint issues ...

 

and one back wheel was stuck on by its centre ,  nuts removed  , and it would not shift , spin and hit with rubber hammer for about 5 mins to work it off ...

 

just a suspicion but I reckon it had not been off for a while ???

Quicker way round that issue - wheel nuts back on by a few threads, get up to about 20mph and a cheeky handbrake turn in the direction of the sticky wheel - that'll soon persuade it to let go of the hub.

The regular two door Evoque looks ok in the right colour combo but the drop top is a crass looking monstrosity imo and it’ll always be driven by exactly the sort of person you’d think.

I tend to wear work boots so apply a well aimed kick once the bolts are out to remove reluctant wheels. Make sure to hit the tyre not the rim though.

Took the 944 to a garage a week ago and paid them £35 to look over it and tell me what was wrong last week. I thought the wheel bearings were fecked as they were an advisory at the last MOT but they stressed they were fine, they were tapered ones and should have some play.

 

They did advise though that there was play in the steering column and rack, one of the ball joints was fucked and it was rusty as fook plus a few other little bits.  

 

Fine, I need to get it done. I said I just want the steering and the ball joint doing, I'll sort everything else. They said they'd price it up and come back to me the following morning. 

 

I rang on Friday afternoon as had not heard from them. they said they were having trouble with the parts.

 

Rang them on Tuesday, they apologised and said they would come back to me on Wednesday. 

 

Didn't hear owt on Wednesday, so went to the garage  and they promised to ring me today. Which predictably they didn't.

 

I have to be honest, I really didn't care about the price to sort the mechanicals, I just wanted the car sorted. It's my daily I have enough other cars to worry about I don't mind paying someone else to sort this one. They were the ones that wanted to price it up, I wanted to book it in and get it fucking mended.

 

Yet here I am a week later with no car. Twats. 

 

I took it to them as they have loads of old rally cars inside, a couple of Mk2 escorts, a 205 GTi and so on so would know their way round old cars. They might be busy but have well fobbed me off so can do one.

Similar story with Lady Grumpius' sister recently.  Garage in Manchester didn't get back to her with a quote four times over the course of a week.  Car needed a bit of welding.

 

In the end, she left worked early, fucked it out of there, and drove it the 270 miles here to use the garage that her Dad (and myself and Lady Grumpius) use and got the train back to Manchester that night.

 

Extreme but I saw the car today picking my Golf up and they're actually working on it...

I’ve made that mistake before with a garage having old cars . 2 months later I had to Go and take the car back and that’s with me already having sourced all the parts .

 

Some garages aren’t interested if they can’t just order the parts through dingbro. If you offer to source the parts yourself you may have more luck.
