??? Do your takeaways charge for delivery? Always free around here, sometimes over a tenner, some you only need to spend a fiver.

Today was the day social media morons finally made me snap. There's three (more) people who won't be buying my car. Oh well.

I made the mistake of putting my Thunderbird on facebook market place. I think it is the facebook app being so shit that it is very easy for people to end up sending a message asking if it is still for sale automatically. I was getting so many asking if it was for sale then never replying I deleted the ad. Ebay is a bit shit but at least I don't get stupid messages every 5 mins.

Thanks to the flu I’ve triggered a work place absence maker. Next time I’m back on site I’ve been told I will receive a verbal warning and my ‘attendance will be monitored for the next three months’.

 

This is the same bastards that when I had chicken pox last year (which I assure you is a bugger to catch when an adult) I turned down the docs offer to sign me off for two weeks so I could work at home to help site as we had a number of big projects on going that only I could help with.

 

Although I’m not contracted to, I repeadily assist them outside office hours including recently when they called me even though they knew I was on a day off. They also called me whilst on actually holiday.

 

I think in the future I will respond to any outside normal hours requests with “I’m sorry I can’t help you outside my working hours as I need to ensure my body gets sufficient rest to help me fight infections so I’m never off ill again”.

 

If I happen to catch any other nasty flu bugs, etc I will take great delight in dragging my diseased carcus to work so I can spread them all around as that is company policy and I’m only doing my bit.

Yeah, it is annoying but also default, unless you chose to put your own words in. That said, the odd replies I've had have just been 'mileage' or 'reg number' with no 'please', or any other form of manners. They can FRO for a reply, too.

The 406 isn't running right... 41mpg showing on the computer and I waft everywhere... Might look at the new fuel filter that's sat in the boot. It doesn't need a service, that was done a few 000 miles ago.

I see this a lot.  Loyalty in the working relationship often seems to apply in one direction only.  

 

Presume your 'back to work interview' will be minuted?  Nothing wrong with reminding them professionally of your performance above and beyond...

I’ve seen a lot of this over the past few years. It’s just poor leadership and one of the biggest downsides of teaching people to manage others according to a handbook rather than using any pragmatism. Having been a Leadership Behaviour Coach it makes me despair.

Sadly having experienced ‘health and safety’ briefings/ training for management. Not only do they not have a genuine interest in the wellbeing of the staff, they are actively dehumanising the staff in the eyes of management and putting them as the ‘enemy of efficiency’. Thankfully some of my colleagues were as disgusted as I was but far from all of them. The section of doing a stress audit so you could a, show how caring you were in case of any future claims to the contrary, b, get a heads up on who may be worth ‘sidelining’ (getting shot of in other words) and c,covering your arse in case of existing complaints about workload, was particularly disgusting.

A little while back I sent off to my bank for details of PPI policies I had with them - many years ago, in my irresponsible youth, I took out several bank loans to pay for things (mostly chod), and I was sure I remembered having PPI on them.

 

Turns out that I did have PPI on three loans, however in each case I cancelled the PPI within a month of taking it out.  So the grand total I would get back if I made a claim would be three months' premium, so probably less than 100 quid.  I'm now most annoyed at my younger self for being so financially savvy.

Having been a Leadership Behaviour Coach it makes me despair.

 

 

A lot of managers I deal with could do with some of that.

 

 

I would say, certainly in my industry, 'management' and 'leadership' are almost completely mutually exclusive.  The 'leaders'; those who inspire and motivate are very, very rarely in positions of authority.  Many leaders have no desire to be in management, and many managers desperately seek to be (and fail at being) a leader.

 

I'd love to be a 'coach'! Whether anyone would gain from my BS is another matter entirely...

A while ago I was doing some work for a large government owned organisation.

 

The 'managers' openly referred to the staff as pondlife and disappeared off on a Friday lunchtime to the pub, never to be seen again until the next week.

It was nepotism central, anyone who wasn't one of the chosen ones or a relation soon left leaving a load on inbred idiots to carry on taking their large salaries and screwing the business up.

In the village at my French pad, one of the best bits is having a brilliant little corner shop less than a mile away. Tobaconist, usual corner shop stock plus really good wine, fresh fish etc etc, owned by a lovely lady.

 

Why is this a grump?

I have been lucky enough to have some fantastic managers and also the misfortune to have a couple of totally clueless fuckers. It’s not an easy job and personally don’t enjoy aspects of it, especially when staff need reminding of what they should be doing. But the best managers are the ones that you know have your back, they give you a bollocking if needed but will look after you. They are sadly a rare type. What the crap managers don’t understand is why the workforce will do anything for one person and nothing for them. We used to have a guy Neil who was very quiet and seemed to be the opposite of what you would expect for a manager, he would do anything for you and as a result you would do anything back when he needed it. At the same time there was another manager at the same level who was a complete martinet and could not understand why softly spoken Neil got results she couldn’t hope to achieve. The answer was simple, as a staff we did exactly what we were paid for when she asked, nothing more, nothing less. Guess which one got the promotion though?

Had to have another root canal today after my tooth decided it wanted to get infected last week.

 

Took an hour and a half due to a nerve being 'at a funny angle' and me officially having "a small mouth"

 

Mrs Shrimp says this is crap as I'm a big gobshite :-)

Leaving a work site yesterday I suspected a soft tyre. Steering felt light etc. Pulled over and indeed had a flat front tyre. Unloaded all my work gear and tools on a muddy wet verge and fitted the space saver spare.

Grumpy with myself for not noticing before that the inner 10mm of the tyre had totally worn through, despite the tyre having around 5mm of tread left elsewhere. The tracking was done on the last tyre change so something wrong. The other side is worn evenly at around 5mm.

Many years ago I went to see the 'newly appointed' (from another plant) head of a major production area of our plant to discuss the report I had just issued. This report dealt with the exposure of a quite, on a long term basis, harmful materials to employees health.

 

Does it affect production was his only question.

 

No, it seriously affects the health of your staff was my reply.

 

Let me know when it affects production was his response.

 

Several years later he was appointed in charge of, well you can guess can't you?

Just settling down after the trip away, with a brew, ready to tell the internet about stupid car stuff and I get informed that a local friend committed suicide last night. He'd been signed off work with anxiety issues. They were clearly very serious. Bit stunned to be honest. Not a close friend, but that's not the important bit. It's another male in his 40s deciding there's only one way out. This is fast becoming a very serious issue. People in those situations must feel so lost and worthless at that moment, yet every death leaves a chasm with unanswered questions, feelings that weren't noticed but were in fact there and absolute confusion.

It’s a nightmare, the stress that is being loaded onto people is obscene these days, it’s no wonder some people feel there is no other way out. Very sad in each and every case.

Thanks, but I'll be fine. Can't speak for everyone else, but it's not easy to know what to do in such circumstances. I don't feel like editing silly videos right now, that's for sure.
