The grumpy thread

Fair enough; maybe leave the Facebook alone for a while. Some people use the social media a bit too much ;)

Guilty as charged. I really should step away from it a bit. Social media doesn't generate as many views as you might think.

People are so ready to take offence nowadays, FB seems quite bad for this. Doesn't help that posts on the 'net are very 2D, things can easily come across/be taken the wrong way.

Fucking Discovery, keep getting an issue in which my throttle pedal doesn't respond, but only when it's been pissing down. Fucking ungrateful fly-by-wire post-1986 newfangled tosh. Anyone got any ideas? Or perhaps a match?

Even my pre-1986 90 has lost all it's dash lights and still isn't charging. Electricity is not my friend today.

I listed my Cortina on Facebook and had a message saying "I am an MOT tester and there's no such thing as MOT exempt cars"

Aye okay m8.

I avoid facebook and other social media platforms, other than this place. In the real world there are various types you avoid but it takes much longer on line to work out who they are! Even on here, with like minded souls there are problems with fall outs due to mere inflection problems which would not happen in real life. It's really hard work sometimes!

My grump is lying weather forecasts. I was looking forward to snow but all I've got is rain & wind.

It'd almost be interesting to meet this person and explain the associated rules and regulations relating to MOT testing of classics cars.

I suspect he'd argue that the sky was green and grass was blue, and you'd just end up wanting to kill yourself after 38 seconds.

Agreed. We don't have weather forecasts anymore.

What we have is a narrative, as it changes constantly to reflect what is happening now. That is not a forecast.

Trouble is they'll deny it anyway. Why would they (except morally, of course) make a claim on their insurance when they know he has no proof?

How many Argos catalogues does he want delivered again?

I'd start with 3.

Then follow up with another 400, just in case any of the initial batch got lost on the way.

Do as I do, and refuse to be offended by anything. I have friends who are very far left, others who are very far right. I listen to their points of view, absorb, and form an opinion. Being 'offended' doesn't enter the equation as I simply don't care enough.

We had this with a C3-the throttle sensor in the footwell was getting damp

It's only ever old people who push in front of you, in supermarket queues, or to get on the bus first...

I'm not quite old enough to get away with it yet, but soon it will be my turn.

Just "oh ok I didn't know that" and walk off..It's far easier. No point wasting any time on these types. With driving interesting cars I have had plenty of practise dealing with this sort.

A quick aside; seven & a half ton driver I used t work with, Diesel Dave.

Left EMA bound for London with a soft front tyre. 'Didn't have time' to pump it up whilst at the airport.

Popped in at Leicester Forest services & put 125 psi of ice cold air into a 20 mile red hot tyre.

As you can probably imagine, it exploded.

Bunch of coppers taking a break thought it was a bomb.

Ran round to find Dave bleeding with most of the steel cords embedded in his face

Bundled him into their car, protesting loudly, and drove him to hospital.

Lorry load of freight and Dave's phone remained at LFE services for a long, long time.

See if you can guess how many 'guaranteed next day delivery' parcels were delivered free by UPS that week.

Fucking Sydney Trains.

What a lot of daft cunts that couldn’t organise themselves out of a wet paper bag.

That is all.

Sounds like they need to go on a fact finding mission to Japan to see how public transport should be run. Exactly the same in the rainy UK.

I was watching a YouTube video of some young girl who blew AU$700k + ( ) on a plot in western Sydney, principle mortgage loan kicking in putting her mother's home at financial risk. I digress. Apparently the commentator said it takes about 1 and a half hours from that location to get to the central business district. Yikes!

It's only taken two years of motoring, I've finally managed to run out of fuel.

On the motorway of course. Luckily I'm close to home.

Don't trust range computers, kids.

How many miles did you supposedly have left?

fortunately wasn’t out and about yesterday but it was a bitch of a storm. Took out everything here. Power back on in 5 minutes internet 9 hours, land line phone has died - base station won’t boot. And only some of the wired network in the house is working.

Last night was by far the worst journey I had ever had on Sydney Trains. I was trying to get from Circular Quay to Cronulla, 3 hours and 4 trains on a journey that usually takes 45 minutes on 2 trains.

It started with 20 minutes waiting at Circular Quay for any train that would take me to Central, then 30 minutes waiting for a Cronulla train at central because about 4 lines were all being directed onto one platform due to platform renovations, eventually a Waterfall bound train turns up so I get on it (Cronulla is a branch off the Waterfall line). Next we get to Mortdale station where the train just stopped, turns out the driver’s shift had ended so he buggered off home despite the fact that there was no new driver there to replace him! Que 45 minutes waiting until a train pulled into the other platform, I ask the conductor where it’s going, “Cronulla”, I shout down the carriage, “That train is going to Cronulla!”, the message is passed through the train and everyone gets off our train and onto the other one. Finally, when we get to Sutherland Station, the announcement states that this train is actually terminating here and you need to change for Waterfall and Cronulla services, which was another 30 minute wait but that train finally took me home. Utterly hopeless.

(Don’t get me started on Sydney house prices!)

It was indeed a bitch of a storm!

I’m up with friends in Sydney at the moment so was wishing I was home and out of the storm.

funniest thing was the seemingly 6” of rain falling as one lump had stopped and watery setting sun was out then 15 minutes later BANG everything off.
