Similar thing happened to me at a job interview back in 1997.

Appointment was at 2pm. I arrived at 1.45 and was directed to a chair in reception. At 2.30 the guy turned up. His first words were "you are late"

Sensing that this 'may' have been a test of some sort I apologised. I got the job and got to know the guy fairly well over the ensuing years. He did admit that it was a test of my reactions to unfair situations.

I really hate it when people play stupid games like that.

I may be dead by silence and icy stares soon .. The box on wheels had loads of flies in it . behind the lights .... So i took off a light fitting to have a look ........

And it broke ...

It may a long lingering drawn out death ....

I have a very sore little toe, which is making walking bloody painful but does not affect my use of the brake pedal, although I haven't tried a heel'n'toe.

This pain may not be unconnected with me falling out of bed last night and catching the toe on a plastic box on the way down, possibly dislocating said toe. I feel like an utter numpty!

Was in a hurry today (Lady Grumpius' Dad's birthday at Casa Grumpy) so had to resort to Halfords fitting my bulb.  It's mildly inaccessible and a real pain in the arse if you're in a rush.  At least the bloke at Halfords was nice.  Made a very pointed remark about his colleague at the till that was failing to serve any customers at all and had a decent chat.

Still don't like being charged for a sodding headlight bulb, though.

Had a flu jab yesterday. Now have flu like symptoms plus spent most of the day literally shitting my brains out.

I'm feeling exactly the same and haven't even had the flu jab! I'm sleeping on the sofa tonight so I can sleep sat up

I have to admit to not havit had the jab the last couple of years.

Had it three times and without fail it left me feeling like death for a couple of weeks - far more so than any bout of the flu ever has. Was the single longest chunk of time I've ever had off work by a long shot. Well, unless you count the enforced quarantine when I caught that swine flu that was going around...Was over it in a day and a half and was climbing the walls by the end of the week.

Not being able to sleep because you need the bog every 9 minutes is wearing thin.

What was that?  I couldn't hear you over all the flatulence...

I’m a chronic insomniac and get by on 3 hours a night anyway. But I’m knackered now.

I never have flu jabs either, they don't protect you from this years flu & they do kill you for a week.

Ah crap, that doesn't look good

I can't immediately think where that ball could have come from without catastrophic failure being evident?

How long since you changed the oil?

Posted

The only ball like that I can think of is the oil pressure relief valve on some cars, but now that would find its way into the sump is another matter.

It could be a gearbox drain plug or sump and gearbox if it's the Allegro's. I hope it's not the new Volvo.

I equally hope it's not the Volvo, though it may be that the Volvo is the most disposable of the fleet so it might be for the best if it is.

I thought the gearboxes were sealed for life and thus no drainage plug though.

Allegro 1100 is an A Series, and the only ball bearings are on the gearbox first and third motion shaft plus the diff bearings - and they are all much bigger than that. There are small ball bearings in the syncro hubs but they cannot escape. Weird.

Sorry, I've been busy or I would have clarified earlier.

It's the sump plug from my hymac digger.

It died on me last weekend so today I investigated.

I had put new oil in when I got it a couple of years ago. Be surprised if it's done 100 hours in that time.

It's always been a smokey, gutless thing so an engine rebuild was on the cards. Good starter though so the compression can't be too bad.

Anyway, last week it needed an awful lot of amps to get it started. Like tge starter motor was on the way out or a bad earth. I even had the Oldsmobile hooked up with its twin BFO batteries. 5 minutes after starting, it died while running. Didn't stall, just ground to a halt.

The oil level was high and thin, so today I drained it. Thought maybe diesel diluting it.

Then... balls

I tend to agree.

Given that it's a leyland 4/98 engine, anyone want to hazard a guess where these ball bearings have come from?

Big end bearings will be shells. Will the crank itself run in a roller bearing ?

I'm now thinking the slow winding wasn't the starter motor, but because the engine was eating itself.

Unlikely to be engine bearings but could be injection pump if it is gear driven off the crank
