The grumpy thread

The title of the grumpy thread making people grumpy is very apt.  Or, as the kids would say, 'meta'...

Posted

I'd like to be offended by something, sadly I'm too grumpy to be able to catagorise something specific to be offended about.

Generic grumpy is really so much easier :)

The fella who lives next door has a new girlfriend.

This would be great if he didn't work odd hours, and bring her home at 3 AM on a Sunday morning for her to scream her head off.

YESSSS YESSSS YYYYEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!

to clarify, that in itself is not the grump because I could sleep through a bomb and so can the kids.

The grump is directed towards the Mrs, who feels the need to shake me awake to ask me "can you hear that???"

I fucking can now darling

The energetic sexual episode is over in minutes. The Mrs then keeps me up for half an hour while she grumps and mutters about people having more consideration etc etc

I can get her annoyance however our three kids make such an enormous racket from 06:00 right through to them leaving the house at 08:30, with a repeat session from 16:00 until their bedtime.

So I sort of see it as swings and roundabouts, Mrs not inclined to agree....

Truly, irony is dead.

And here we go back to my original comment that started this silly discussion and thread change.

I was being ironic and posted exactly what I would have said man to man. Er, sorry I mean person to person. It was a light hearted comment.

No offence meant.

I am still offended though, this thread title is AGEIST

I hate to be the one to point out that you're missing quite an obvious message from your wife here...

When is it okay to be offended? Is it ever okay to be offended? It'd be good to get an idea from Captain Self-righteous.

I think the most 'offended' people are often the ones who have perceived that someone else is offended about something they think is trivial and live in an endless cycle of outrage.

In other words, Daily Mail readers.

Yes it is - it needs renaming IMMEDIATELY to the omit the offensive and ageist reference to "old"

I have 3 days leave. What happened this morning? woke up at half 5 full of beans. Forgot to charge phone overnight, bored. Bedroom TV has again crapped out.

Get up for a coffee, trod in cat sick on the landing. Why do cats puke so much? Fucking things.

Out of ground coffee, only the wife's gravy powder stuff left.

FFS

That's just it. I know it's slightly different because of the reasons for the event but I caught a picture of the Invictus games and everyone had a poppy on. And to me, that just looks staged. Had those people all happened to have chosen to wear a poppy a full 3 weeks before remembrance by chance? Same with the news and things. If everyone in the studio is wearing one it just looks a bit suspect to me, are they being made to wear it? Are they wearing it because they know the wrath they will receive if it's spotted that they aren't? None of these reasons respect the meaning of the gesture. I don't presume these people are not respectful and are just doing it for show but I do think that it dilutes the symbolism and possibly the meaning. It would be much better in my opinion if poppies were reserved for the days surrounding the 11th of November Remembrance Sunday. And I don't presume that anyone not wearing one doesn't care or is ungrateful for the sacrifices made during conflicts.

I was told off by the fleet manager for putting a poppy on my lorry a few years ago, a week or so before Armistice day. He cut it off and put it in the workshop bin. I retrieved it, refitted, went and did my round, next morning it was gone. My crew and I clubbed together to buy one.

I had a massive argument with him about it, it was causing no harm to anyone, he was wearing a poppy himself. Wasn't allowed to put on lorry because it might offend someone. Told him if he removed it again, I would issue a formal complaint to the department director. It got left on this time.

Members of my family and some of my friends have needed help from the RBL (and other military charities) in the past. I always put a minimum of a quid in for a poppy, I'll happily buy 3 or four poppies as I have a tendency to lose them.

I do agree they come along a bit too early now; I think 2 weeks prior to Armistice day is early enough. The various military benevolent funds do fantastic work for the serving/ex military and their families who need help.

I'm only grumpy because no-one's answered my thermostat question in 'Ask a Shiter'.

Do I get offended easily? I don't think I'd have survived being a lorry driver for 42 years if I took to heart everything that was said to me.

Banter? Only on Friday night did one of my fellow drivers announce loudly that I like Thai ladyboys.

Completely untrue of course, but a bloody good laugh.

I did some research and could only find conventional thermostats for 2003 C70 petrols.

Hop House is definitely the worst for hangover for me - it’s a lovely drop but it’s fucking lethal the next morning

You don't have to drink 13 pints, its just called Hop House 13

Surely changing the name of the thread was one of Cavcraft's better jokes?

I'm certain it wasn't done to avoid causing offence and can't believe the responses to be honest.

Actually on reflection, this is supposed to a family friendly site.

Autoshite is not a word I can say in front of my young children. This offends me, this forum is discriminatory against people with young children and should be renamed.

Or, we could just ignore this whole 'offended' culture just try and ignore it as nobody on here, to my knowledge is actually racist, sexist, ageist etc.

We could start our own movement as generally this place is a drop a sanity in an otherwise mad world

Hang on,a movement is another word for a shite. The new name should be Automovement.

But now I'm being a twat and have therefore just offended myself.

I am offended because you have offended yourself. I'm telling the Daily Mail, so all the other people who like to be offended on behalf of others can be offended as well.

It’s offensive that this page is in English. We need to be more inclusive and translate to a different language every hour on a continuous rotation. I’m deeply offended that nobody else is offended by this and if you don’t share my viewpoint, you’re a fascist.

I'm going to become a male feminist so that I can become more offended and display the required amount of po faced, self righteous smugness and rage on his behalf.

That's so that any slightly Feminist friends of mine can google me and see in an instant how Right On I am.

This is about the size of it, most of the 'offence' taken on social media is just virtue signalling.

How do you define 'offence'? It's such a loose term and has been weaponised equally against silly and legitimate greivances. Virtue signalling is a dodgy term too, again used in bad faith against some people with legitimate concerns.

Ooohhh you're offended! You should be like me and not care about anything but yourself, also it's the end of history and your place in society is as good as it's going to get, might as well do or say nothing.

Oh dear, is it that time of year again?

I was going to post about being a bit grumpy that I want to remove the big poppy from the front of the 406 mainly just because Im not a fan of anything stuck on a car bar a nice dealer sticker... May not bother now (and will wait until after the 11th to remove it, will give it to my stepdad, he likes stuff like that)

And 'grumpy' is getting favourable treatment, what about the other six?

If it has been changed because of some wet lettuce* and isn't just done to be ironic I think I'll be moving on from this place, its all a bit pathetic.

*I apologise if I've offended any lettuces, be they iceberg or otherwise, wet or dry.

Well, the typical manifestation of 'offence' these days is someone (usually white and middle class, it has to be said) finding some everyday triviality to be offended by, like a slogan on a kids jumper in Asda or gender specific toilets or something.  Create some tenuous claim that whatever it is is offensive or discriminatory towards men\women\gays\trans\blacks\whites\browns\muslims\jews\disabled\some other protected group to which they don't belong.  Go off to post it on social media to 'raise awareness' - but what they're actually doing is raising awareness of themselves, hey look at me reaffirming my non-racist\sexist credentials, give me some likes and shares.

Virtue signalling is people loving to wax lyrical about how anti bad things they are.  I'm anti-fascist, i'm anti-racist, i'm anti-discrimination - So what? Being anti these things is the fucking default for any normal reasonable person.   For examples of this behaviour see the comments section of any major news\media company.
