“Ideal" boilers - cheap shit much favoured by landlords!

The one we have is an Ideal, it must be neck end of 10 years old, still chugging away and doing fine! In the three years in the property (Private Rented) the only time an engineer has been near it is to do the annual gas check

Alarm fixed. Now the water supply has gone off.

Well, I almost made it. So close.

I almost made it all the way through winter without getting a cold or flu or any other horrible shit. Now I’ve got some hideous cold and sore throat and I feel like shit!

Winter needs to piss off now, all this constant cold and snow can also piss off.

There were a couple of days last week where it looked and felt like spring had at long last started. My hopes have been dashed!

It seems to have just gone on and on this winter. Never ending!

Yep. On the plus side it's nice and sunny now. Cold as balls still but the sun's out. Maybe the snow will GTF.

Is that what was printed on your birth certificate, or was it something equally Germanic like Wolfgang?

Next you'll be telling us that you do have a middle name, and that it's Amadeus.

My youngest has a friend called Wolfgang, always makes me chuckle.  Mind you that's not the most unusual American first name out there...

I now have a fully fixed rcz. And got to speak to the mechanic who did the work. Seems to know his onions, all good.

From his description anyone who tries it on their drive will need balls as big as space hoppers.

Ok so far, until the warranty company decided to wait until I was picking it up to tell the garage it will take 20 days to send their share of the payment.

So I'm currently £1300 out of pocket and have to get half back from the warranty company, only other option was no car for 20 days..

Does anyone have any opinions or advice on whether the damage to the sill from my inept jacking is anything other than cosmetic, and how viable getting it repaired is?

Wife got hers done on the 500 at local body shop, think it was under £100 for both sides.

I'm waiting...

Going on holiday at the end of the week, so no doubt will get sick on Wednesday night.  Did the whole trans-atlantic flight thing while in the middle of a cold last year, and *really* don't want to do it again.

Is it really bad that I'm honestly not looking forward to this because air travel is do damned stressful these days?  I honestly just can't be bothered with it.  If it wasn't for the fact that the rest of the family are looking forward to it, I'd just stay put...

I've got the same thing but with the added inconvenience of hot & cold shivers.

I was physically shivering yesterday even while wearing ski salopettes and a fleece and with the heating cranked up to 23° C.

Sounds like the same thing.

My mum has it, sister has it, auntie has it and a few people at work have it too. Last night I felt freezing cold yet was sweating like mad. Later on I felt ok again. Bloody horrible.

Got the bleed nipples on the passat unseized for £20. Guy bled brakes but they are still spongy so I will bleed the lot again tomorrow.

I thought we had got out of jail for free but no - our static caravan has sustained a wrecked boiler as well as burst pipes. I am off now to find £500.....

Until YouTube can work out a way to make decent money, I can see why a channel spending a lot of money on production would need to move to their own platform.

YouTube is great for people who are just spouting opinions to camera, as the outlay is tiny so profits large. Start having to buy cars, parts and tools.... No profit.

You can also probably blame anyone running an ad-blocker on YouTube, since it seems acceptable to freeload stuff online in that way.

It’s still free you just need to go to the motor trend website to watch it.

It seems the only ones making money from YouTube is google. I see the guy who does hoovies garage is off making a non you you tube thing although he’s still posting.

I subscribe to MTOD and it's ok. Totally screwed up the app in last month or so.

They have been adding loads of extra shows but in doing so the good stuff gets hidden. Like having sat TV with 290 channels

The Engine Masters series with Dulsich and Freiberger has been more interesting than the Roadkill episodes of late for me and I have just binge watched my way through 24 hrs of Lemons as well.

I read a David Friesandburger post saying it was free but having looked on the website this doesn't seem to be the case.

It got bought by Velocity so that says it all really.

Just been up to daughter's.

Apart from someone stealing the two metal ramps from her garden, then an electric fire, someone nicked her wheelie bin on Saturday.

I told her to report it to the police and council - police so she gets a crime number so the council don't make her pay for a replacement - it was returned today while she was at work.

She took her son to school for a careers interview and when they got back water was pouring down the path.

I appears that someone has been in the services cupboard (gas/electric meters, mains fuse, gas valve and water stop tap) and opened a drain cock.

This drain cock is a shield valve so there would either need a key to open it or - as I did, use a spanner to remove the shield and shut the valve.

It was opened a full turn so hasn't opened itself by accident.

Time to install some bear traps and Claymores I believe.

Crazy ex?

Sounds like someone playing silly buggers.

Metal ramps going walkabout could happen to anyone anywhere thanks to those hard working honest folk who's identity could damage their scrap metal business.

The rest of it sounds deranged.

I don't think a crazy ex is likely although he lives only a couple of miles from her.

That was a thought but she moved out last June.  Estate agents/banks/solicitors dragged it out so Lill only moved in in late November.

As far as I know, Velocity has just teamed up with Motor Trend, so it isn't a takeover, just a sharing of content (ie Motor Trend shows appear on Discovery, and vice versa). I agree with Moog that the MTOD website is now junk. Took me bloody ages to find Hot Rod Garage the other day. If they're burying their own shows, that really isn't good. This was the day after it had aired!

To salvage things, I reckon they should employ enthusiastic amateurs with crap cameras and crap cars, to evoke the earlier days of Roadkill. Just sayin...

But, this is the grump thread so I'm going to whinge about my shitty laptop, which appears to have some sodding hardware fault I can't find, which means it just chews up resources for no apparent reason, whether Windows or Linux (which I spent much of this evening installing).

Linux isn't even behaving very well, and I've tried two browsers now, both of which keep bloody hanging for no apparent reason. Guess that could be related. Then my phone started hanging and refusing to show me Facebook notifications more recently than an hour ago. Has there been an magnetic storm of some sort or something or is technology just shit?

Bloody mouse failed during a work marathon!

£8 later and I'm sorted - but figuring it out took ages. I thought I'd ended up with some malicious VPN software again.

You...the Muppet who lives a few streets over from us with the MX-5 with the straight through exhaust and stretch rims and drives like a right plonker...

Could you *not* bounce the thing off the rev limiter on the quiet residential street when you leave for work at 05:15 every bloody morning?

Just because you're up doesn't mean that everyone else wants to be. Especially those of us who suffer from sodding insomnia and had just finally dozed off when you roared, popped and banged your way towards the main road.

I'm sure even with that size of exhaust, you could find a potato to snugly fit.

Or just a note. "Nice car. Would be a shame if something happened to it. People do crazy things when they're sleep deprived."

Aye, I can relate, my dickhead neighbour's M3 was terrible for cold starts, every morning at 7:50 it woke me up. Luckily he sold it in December.
