Left knee has become rather painful over the last week. Seems to be from the knee downwards.

It makes a slight crunching noise when bending. Oddly fascinating.

Cat managed to turn on the grill last night, so the house was full of gas this morning. NICE!

I once asked our cat to put the kettle on.

He said "me? ow?"

I have a Nokia 8210e somewhere. It's tiny and weighs nothing.

Ah ha! I've got the similar version, but the metal one otherwise known as the 8850. Very popular back in the day and very expensive.

I've still got lots of old phones I think my favourite GSM was the old Motorola Startac.

Got a couple of analogue ones to including my old Motorola that was the model after the brick, shame the dog tried to eat the aerial it was pretty clean before that.

We may have had several phones on the same number on the old analogue network which was good for saving money...

Let the dogs out for a leak earlier. One of them was hanging around at the bottom of the apple tree in the garden and wouldn't come away.

Went and had a look wtf he was interested in and there's a fucking huge brown rat up the tree eating the bird seed!

I left the dog to guard the tree and got my air rifle. The rat was stuck with nowhere to go so I blew the vile thing out of the tree. Stone dead when it hit the ground!

We've had this problem a few times before. Next door keep chickens and the rats come in from the woods over the back fence every now and then.

We kill them off and they disappear for a while but eventually more always come back again. Sodding things!

Get your phones out whilst you can, most 2G networks at consumer level are being wound down with a few to being turned off in a few years. You'll already find reception is crap as the old 2G bands are being repurposed for 4G right now.

Good shot!   Much better than poison.   We have a nursing home nearby and they get into the rubbish where they obviously gobble up the blue stuff.    Then come over to ours to die.   I am not keen on the buggers but don't like to see animals suffer so I usually dispatch them with a shovel across the neck.

Are new cheap basic phones 3G now?

In South London it'd be an Uzi... 2 clips off = miss rat completely/fell tree.

Most, if not 4G.

The exceptions at the moment seem to be "old people's" phones with massive buttons etc, a lot of those are 2G only but they stay on the market for ages unlike smartphones that get a new version every year.

The last phone to launch as 2G only was the remake of the Nokia 3310, and that's just been upgraded to 3G

Yeah, I'm not a fan of using poison as it's a horrible slow death for whatever eats it. Plus they eat it then disappear off and die elsewhere which can cause flys and bad smells. It also runs the risk of killing anything that might get hold of the corpse or disoriented dying rat (like dogs and cats).

I've got a good scope on my rifle and it's easy to get a clean shot with it so there's no suffering.

It's not nice to kill things of course but these rats are disgusting vile disease ridden things and it's not good having them near the house and garden, especially if they start breeding!

I wish they'd sod off tbh and then I wouldn't need to do it.

I've put some old peanut butter out in the garden as bait to see if there's any more nearby. So far I've seen a few tiny mice, which are fine, but no rats...

" I wish they would fuck off"

Puts peanut butter down to attract them

Got to be sure there's no more!

The last lot dug out under our shed base and made a nest. It took ages to get rid of them. It's best to kill them off before they get chance to dig in.

Had no idea - thought the typical £10 feature phone stuff was just old kit hence cheap. Guess the chipsets will have come down in price thanks to smartphones though

Nokia 5.1 top left. Never get mugged - just hit your would be assailant over the head with it.

BTW, weren't the aerials on some/most/all of these old phones a complete sham - not connected to anything?

Huge grump from me today. 3 friends, poss more, have been totally burnt out by wildfires in Portugal. Lost everything. Two of them nearly lost everything 20 years ago in a fire. It's not all lying in the sun, in foreign climes.

What do you say to someone who's just lost the lot ?

A sympathetic voice just doesn't seem to be of any use at all in that situation.

It's going to  look like a lunar landscape for a couple of years, except everything will be black and ash.

my first phone was a motorola MR10 back in the day, followed by a Nokia 3310, the greatest of all mobile phones!

then some Samsung/Nokia knock off, and another cheapo Nokia followed by a hand me down Samsung Galaxy S2.

which i still have, for a smart phone which is 9 or 10 years old, its as good as new!!

and yes, on the old phones the aerials weren't connected to anything cos they were there for show only, and to make the consumer happy as they were expecting the hand set to have one.

That's a 2110. The 5.1 was the slightly different but same version for Orange.
