The grumpy thread

Didn't James May famously do one of them with TG magazine? or did I imagine that.

I recall that as well, I think he got sacked for it. I think it was pre TG days when he was writing for one of the monthlys.

Bastard greyhounds.

1. She shit on the kitchen floor overnight.

2. When we went out this afternoon, she chewed the control knob on our new washing machine, and...

3. Chewed the corner of the longcase clock (only 42 years old, and not worth much, but immaculate and sentimental value).

4. Chewed the corner of the kitchen table.

We've owned her for 9 months and she's been bloody hard work from the outset. Frustratingly, she's a gorgeous dog, with a lovely temperament. We don't like cleaning up shit regularly though, and her previous owner gave her up as she apparently suffered with separation anxiety, and started to chew things. This is the first we've seen of it - she seems to be regressing.

NOT happy.

Yeah, she lived with a JRT in her last home. We're really annoyed that the rescue didn't specify that her future home needed another dog as a companion - we wouldn't have taken her on if that were the case. Another dog isn't an option for us though. Thing is, even with the JRT pal at her last home, she still chewed. It's just strange how it's only now that her true colours with chewing are starting to come out. It would be easier to deal with if she were a pup and trainable. This behaviour isn't going to go away though, I fear...

Where is she left when you go out? I had issues with my Greyhound when I used to leave her cooped up just in the kitchen and used to come home to shit on the floor. As soon as I left her with the run of the house and she could just go upstairs and sleep on my bed the problems went away.

iirc The Shamen did that with the titles on their last album so that it said FUCK BIRKETT, a reference to the bloke who owned their label.

She's shut in the kitchen/diner. Not a tiny space though. No chance of her sleeping on the bed as she won't walk on the laminate in the hall ;).

She's grumpy at the moment as she knows she's been a naughty girl.

Could've been worse.

I didn't know my dog had the runs the other day until I trod in a puddle of poo on the kitchen floor, in my bare feet.

Nice start to the day.

One of my collie crosses has a bit of separation anxiety and massive fear of thunder, fireworks, gunshots etc. Drugs don't work on him (Serenum). Giving him something to chew on does however - suitably slathered in peanut butter to get him interested, a rubber 'kong' works every time now. Before we cottoned on to this he'd destroyed a 5l can of antifreeze (and did not die); a 5l tin of emulsion (and did not die); a live four way (yup, ditto); and a live lead for a lampstand (same again).

PS it's the action of chewing that is the most effective de-stresser for a dog. No idea why.

Nothing like warm, fresh turd squishing up between your toes to tell you your day's taken a turn for the worse.

Mine also have an issue with laminate flooring, whenever I go round to my mothers house she has to put some old carpet down for them to walk on. It might be worth trying a DAP diffuser to see if that helps with the separation anxiety.

Clearly thinks it is a cat with 9 lives.

Woken at 1 am by my agency cancelling my 5am start. Apparently their policy states I can be cancelled up to 2 hours before my start time and they don't need to pay me. Bastards.

You need a new agency, Tim.  Always presuming the others are any better.

That's fucking ridiculous

The government stance on phasing out internal combustion engined cars has cost around 40 jobs at Torotrak in Leyland. I've not seen much mention of it, but its ironic that a UK company developing systems to improve emissions on engines which will still be around for quite a few more years to come are contracting. Only recently it was reported that a major manufacturer was about to adopt their system but have now switched all their focus onto horrible battery cars.

Wow Tim, do they expect you to be a smiling ray of sunshine whilst being disturbed at 1am from sleep asleep and told you don't have a job aswell?

Well, of course my grin day yesterday has to be levelled with a grump day, and it's only morning so far. Woke up this morning and decided I'd take the later bus to my first job. Big mistake, bus was 20 minutes late which would've made me late for my connecting train. So decided to call for a taxi, didn't make a difference, he still took his time picking me up and dropped me at the station 1 minute before my train went, which it did anyway. :|

In care its over 24 hours notice required or another job for you else they have to pay at every care company ive worked for. Maybe a call to cab or a known good representative?

Just spoken to the agency and apparently there isn't an "official" cancellation policy! I.e I can get cancelled driving to the client! If they cancel after I arrive ill get paid 6 hours though ????

I've been cancelled after I've shown up before and not been paid though. They usually lie and say they did cancel me but I never got the message or something similar. Contractually they should still pay but in reality they don't. You usually get what you're owned one way or another however.

Are you getting any of the benefits of agency work out of them Tim?

If not are any firms looking for regular drivers, three of the medium size firms locally here have signs adverting for qualified HGV drivers. Also one of the petrol tanker firms were adverting at Birchanger Green services.

these guys seem to be asking for drivers

Based in Market Drayton but seem to advertise a fair few runs out of Stoke On Trent

Tbh guys all agencies are the same, I.e fucking useless. There's too many of them about and clients play them off against each other so they lower pay and conditions to try and undercut the opposition. It's the old "race to the bottom" cliche.

Clients must pat themselves on the back when they book a driver for a couple of quid above minimum wage then wonder why the driver who shows up has never driven in the UK before, ignores all the tacho laws and gets their truck stuck under a bridge. "It's the agencies fault, they sent a crappy driver"

If you have or get an ADR, Tim, I'll put the feelers out for you.

I haven't, but may do a course as part of my drivers CPC (paid for out of my own pocket of course, because AGENCY)

TBH I'm considering just sitting on the sofa, becoming morbidly obese, getting diabetes and living the rest of my life on some sort of benefit.
