Not in NHS. They run with a lower level of managers than any commercial organisation. Around 3% compared to 11% in private sector. This is the lowest level since 1998.

The Kings Fund report in 2011 wanted more managers as they found that GPs or similar adopting management role lacked the skills or training to run a resource intensive environment.

Sadly an efficient manager isn't as photogenic as a nurse, yet potentially can have a bigger impact

Steps off soapbox.

The  dichotomy is sticking medics/engineers/waste-disposal-operatives into a management structure doesn't always work just as forcing skilled managers into the medics/engineers/waste-disposal-operatives structure doesn't always work.   A medic in a management situation is not the same person as a manager in a medical situation but somehow i think you know this anyway.

I hate to say it, but I also read that as a 2. Choice now is to rebuild or use 100mm of expanding foam somewhere. Sincerely hope it can be worked around though.

If it IS a 2, there's no problem.   Feeling a lot more relaxed about it now!

Our greatest trial at the moment at work is Eu customers who write n as m and m as mm and r as n, Not easy to read emails or tell Ir ( iridium ) from In ( indium).

When I worked in the Netherlands we had similar issues (but mostly due to a dodgy printer on the fax machine, theses were the days) so made sure anything critical included the atomic mass number which removed any chance of a cock up. Also had issues with single letter codes for amino acids as they aren't standardised internationally but ALMOST everyone uses the Uk system so throws a real bender when someone decides to not use it (but then it also showed our ignorance in assuming they would!)

some scumbag drug dealer gets shot by the police, now the press is full of glowing eulogies from his family about what a great guy he was and mouthbreathers on facebook saying the pigs are murderers.

Do you know the guy was a "scumbag drug dealer" for a fact? If not, forming opinions based on assumptions/Facebook/news media isn't that smart. Nor is expressing those opinions in public.

Are all drug dealers scumbags?

There's no mandatory requirement for me to post threads about the cars I own.

nope that's true your right but if you have the car we all think you have then it would definitely go down very well here indeed.

I don't know about that but they are definitely clever, I mean they nearly always have the best of gear and never appear to work hard.

I'm going to pass judgement on this shot lad based on the photos I've seen in the news media. He's a scumbag.

Not all drug dealers are rich, especially at the bottom, plenty of them are scrabbling about barely making any money and it's a difficult job with the real potential of losing your liberty. Give (small time) drug dealers a break!

NHS vs Sky.

The history of gun offences and a gun found in the car suggest scumbag, though I'm sure a full inquiry well be held into this shooting in the same way it was with Mark Duggan.

Fuck drug dealers too, poor little bastards who might get arrested for breaking the law. At risk of getting into political topics my liberalism stops before it reaches the life ruining bastards. And that isn't just because my junkie neighbours keep stinking my house out with their god awful weed.

The last time I worked with the NHS they forced them to only work on projects with prime contractors, which meant only very large and expensive companies like bt could sell

Solutions into the NHS . This meant all the innovation was squeezed out of the industry and the large companies fulfilled their briefs by paying for expensive contractors who rarely finish projects on time or on budget. I think they do pretty well given what the have to do over all though.

I was a subbie in a recent project that gutted an existing building and re-purposed it as a medical care centre at one of the big London hospitals. I have never known a site to where the "client" has been so hostile.

I was trolling a little but I have no problem with people selling a bit of weed. The problem is with your neighbours being loser stoners and prohibition, not the drugs.

It's his previous for some sort of drive-by that makes me suspect he isn't exactly the friendly type. In the UK, we generally (bar one poor Brazilian) don't have a habit of our Police shooting ethnics for fun. Obviously, we don't have all the facts to know exactly what went down, but this is the internet, so I'm going to suggest the gentleman was not a gentleman.

'No Angel' is the stock phrase you're searching for, it's in the cliche' drawer next to 'Promising Footballer' and 'Aspiring Rapper'.

I wasn't suggesting that he was an upstanding citizen, just that the fact that he was shot by the police, doesn't, of itself, make him a drug dealing scumbag.

There are certainly very few possibilities for a legitimate reason to have a gun in the car and it's not looking good on the "drug dealing scumbag" front, but then Jean Charles de Menenez was a scumbag suicide bomber, wasn't he?

And even if he (this guy, not de Menenez) was a drug dealing scumbag, with a gun in the car, I'm not sure that - without further information - shooting him dead is justifiable. It may well be, but we need to know more than that he was a drug dealing scumbag. He appeared to be inside the car, sitting in the driver's seat, not outside waving the gun about.

Fuckity fuckity fuckstiks - Fucking back has decided to remind me that it is capable of crippling me at random!

That'l teach me to load up the car with lightweight stuff.

The shooting of Jean Charles de Menenez was a tragedy, I very much doubt this was.

The only similarity is that it was as a result of a Police operation.

I wonder if you'd be so gung ho if it was a member of your family who had been shot, drug dealing scumbag or otherwise.

I'm not saying it wasn't justified, just that for the Police to legitimately shoot someone dead, there has to be some real justification.

I try to keep up with the news, and I haven't yet heard anything that would justify it. A gun (we havent even been told it was unlicensed - though its hardly likely that it was) in the car and a whole load of other non life threatening circumstances, don't, at the moment, justify it.
