The grumpy thread

I love Paris, it's a great city and found the 'grumpy parisians' very friendly but that may have something to do with them pitying my appalling attempts at French. Sitting in a cafe on the edge of the Place du concord watching seven lanes of traffic trying to fit into three lanes of bridge with no priorities or road markings is one of favourite memories.

We did Amsterdam-Berlin-Paris in the Blingo a few years back.  No prizes for guessing which one I won't be returning to.

The Blingo?

I did love it, but this time just couldn't be arsed.

I watched Frantic years ago and always wanted to go. Very accurate representation. It's a beautiful city marred by rubbish everywhere, the outskirts look like it's ready to fall to bits. I like French people as well.

Least favourite memory - having a dubious Asian French man see my uk plates and attempt to clean my windscreen with me doing 30mph and his head nearly interfacing with my bonnet. He ran in front of my car thinking I was going to stop, but I didn't.

Agree on the rubbish, but it's the same over here in a lot of places. I have been to Rekyavik a couple of times and you don't see a piece of rubbish anywhere, I don't it's because they have super efficient street cleaners, I think it's just the mentality. Shame we aren't more like that.

Driving through rest of France it is spotless, I have no qualms about France at all and want to eventually live there hopefully.

Why is vehicle ventilation so difficult to get right? I drive a newish Sprinter nearly every day and the fresh air ventilation is woeful in this weather. Jumping back into my own van which is an old rebadged SEAT with a box on the back, its ventilation seems like ice cold air con in comparison.

I had a V70T5, previous owner reckoned they're all like that.

A whole fucking year later, I pulled the utterley manky pollen filter out and welcome to a world of difference.

Might be worth a look.

Good call, it gets serviced at Halfords where I doubt they do much more than reset the service indicator.

I have a particulary nasty dose of flu. So much so I have rang in sick - I had never done this since joining seven years ago.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement.

I got issued a 313 new, and sadly it was the stuffiest thing on 4 wheels with less than 100 miles on... The subsequent Vito only suffered once blocked mind.

Bloody bad luck about the redundancy Hillman Imp.

Been made redundant 3 times in me working life, had to work right up to the final day every time.

However i would be careful to work normally during this time, my work record is 100% despite several times when i'd been pushed to exploding point, but even though my job is mundane manual you'd be surprised just what a small community is out there in your chosen field whatever it is, your reputation is everything because someone always knows someone, that has seen me walk into some of the best jobs in my line over the past 25 years since i got me first big break.

Conversely, those who mess about despite being actually paid right up to the final day, which you will be, that reputation will also follow.

My worse experience was when i left Autologic (previously Walon ,which was superb) of my own free will, put me notice in, now normally every person who previously left were paid straight off, not me oh no they trusted muggins to work through, yet the only communication from the company from the moment i put me notice in was a 7 word text on the Thursday telling me where to leave the lorry on the Friday.

Hope you find a good job soon mate.

Sorry for your news Hillman Imp. Hopefully something will come up.

I painted and fitted the skirts on my A6 - I decided that I would let a bodyshop paint and fit the spoiler.

Until I was quoted £275 - it is a lip type that needs bonding on.

Looks like I will be doing the spoiler myself.

£275 for a bit of glue and some clamps? DIY indeed!

Glue and clamps?

Shirley self tappers would be more suitable ;)

What I did was to password protect all the important stuff on the computer when I was made redundant a couple of years back.

!

Not the wisest move, this type of thing. Especially at bigger companies.

I had my mid-life crisis when I was in my 20s, we don't tend to live long in my family so I thought it best to get it in quick as I didn't want to miss out

I share your terror of hospitals and will be thinking of you as I react in exactly the same way.  You will feel a lot better once the experts have given you a Holts decoke and prescribed a fixing potion. I found that hypnotherapy helped me face hospital visits and an operation ten years ago when I smashed my arm and wrist.  It did not seem to be helpful when being hypno'd but I was definitely calmer and did not faint - a first for me!

Another one who hates hospitals, most of my family who have gone in come out feet first. I have never had to stay in one so far, which is just as well as they are always full of ill people.

My sentiments precisely! Have had to spend a fair amount of time in them over the years and now avoid going like the fucking plague. If the local surgery can't fix me, I'll live with it... or not :)  Had to have a cortisone injection the other day, Doc did it, he hurt me no more (no less either) than the specialists at the hospital.

Xantia cable operated clutch. Very heavy in traffic. Never been an issue till now. Stop start traffic at a maximum 10mph for about 5mile out of derby. Not what I need after a day at work. Don't want to get rid but I'd be very tempted by an auto or hydraulic clutch manual car right about now.

Nice blue 75 auto with added diesel for sale on this very forum!

Out my price range at the minute. Ideal car though. Need something what will tug the van too.
