yes, and the bolts that did shear had rust inside them.

Alfa saga continued:

Couldn't get the sheared bolt out. No problem, The whole part that it fits into isn't massive, so I'll nip to the scrapyard and get another. Find a yard with one in, but it's on the bottom of the pile, which wasn't a problem until I needed just a little more movement in the strut, which I couldn't do. Anyway, not too grumpy because the yard said they'd get it off for me, but only tomorrow. So Mrs S is in the French Rocket tomorrow, and I'm on the train. And she's got a right cob on. Joy.

Broke another footpump today. Is it actually possible to buy one which isn't complete shit?

Yes. But you have to get a really fragile car at the same time.

Nope, all garbage. same goes for 12v inflators too (apart from VIAIR ones)

When I worked at 'frauds we had like a 50% return rate on the tyre inflators. One bloke bought one to pump his tyre up in the carpark and it just let all the air out of it so he brought it back in and we swapped it for another. Which managed to get it back up to about 5PSI before failing.

The third one claimed this flat tyre was already at 40PSI so we just gave him his money back and I used a TOPEAK floorstanding bike "track" pump instead.

I bought a cheap crappy one from Halfords recently and to be fair, it hasn't exploded yet. I did buy a cheap double pumper on Ebay before that and it was both utterly shit and also soon broken.

Got mine from Tesco and it has been ace, plugs into the fag lighter socket and just gets on with it.

My cheap halfords one is ok, but it doesn't have a gauge. I use a really old metal pencil gauge instead.

I tried pumping up a flat car tyre on my friend's Morgan with my "joe blow" bicycle track pump, but it was too exhausting- the volume just isn't there.

I've got a double barrelled Halfords footpump which has been fine.  Has a gauge and everything.  One of these.

My grump is that the immobiliser on the Discovery has stopped working, so it's immobilised.  Might just be the battery in the fob if I'm lucky.  The fob says 'Lucas' on it, worryingly.

Oral B posh toothpaste was on offer so we bought loads but after much wondering and worrying I have discovered it is irritating my mouth. Trouble is, I'm too tight to throw it out so I was alternating between that and a non-mouth-burny one. But I have obviously used too much Oral -B this weekend so I feel like I've rinsed my mouth out with boiling water.

Ow.

I bought a cheapo "Airman" 12v inflator from Wilkinsons 10 years ago, it was £8 which was cheap then. didn't expect it to last but it's still grafting fine. It's small and folds up nice and tidy. Only negative is the gauge under reads.

Another grump: Just thinking about recording some music to cassettes for playing in old cars.  When da fook did blank TDK SA90 tapes start to cost £5 each?!  Even in multipacks.    :-(

Struggling with ebay logic. Can I drive 30 miles to collect to save the £3 post?

Answer is no, cos strangely I've no desire to sit in the house all bloody day on the off chance of making 4 quid profit if he bothers to turn up.

Tyre inflators.

I'm crap at links here, but if you go onto Paddock Spares, and search for twin cylinder pump, it will bring up a serious one that i've been using for a good few years now, its on offer @ roughly £60 incl, which sounds a lot but this thing will inflate a good sized car tyre fully from flat in less than 2 mins, takes too much current to work off a cig lighter so comes with long cables and croc clips, they also have a single cyl version if you scroll down the page.

I have a new noise. A sort of droning noise that gets louder with speed and vanishes below 35mph. Not sure if removing the passenger side sound deadening has caused it, or me sealing the sunroof/fettling the window weather strips or whatever but it's annoying. Not entirely sure something major hasn't broken, but I shall keep an ear on it and see, will have a look at the brakes too incase one is sticking, none of the wheels are hot though

If its the stuff that was in the door you probably will get a bloody annoying drumming from the panel.

I went about 10 miles on Saturday to pick up a 20p ebay purchase that would have cost a couple of quid to post, but I did it because they were old car brochures that the seller collected from local dealerships that closed years ago, that if would have been posted my dog would have bit and possibly rip as they came through the door, turns out the seller who was a very nice chap is a closet shiter and drives past my house every day looking at my cars, we spent about an hour talking about old cars and I came away with even more brochures

"Why are you here, your test is at 10:15."

Good luck.

Thanks, it would have been over by now. If they didn't fuck me.

As long as I don't clip a curb, I should be ok.

At about 11:30 the results shall be posted...

On my cheapy from Halfords, the pump is still great, but the metal connector to the tyre valve split in two, after several years use.

'Kin properly fed up now, chippy in Spondon that was family run for years was taken over by a chain a few months ago and has gone downhill since. Bad enough on its own but than I get food poisoning from a dodgy burger on Saturday and have spent 72 hours needing to be within twenty feet of a bog and feeling crap (including Sunday which was my birthday). Doc wants a 'sample', bloody great now I have to squat on a 'kin jam jar ffs. Shit week in more ways than one. And where are the back to back wheeler dealer and top gear repeats when you truly need them?
