The grumpy thread

No CCTV or witnesses. I woke up in a pool of blood. Luckily for me they didn't want my trusty old non-smart Nokia phone so I managed to call my mate for help.

Been in hospital since Tuesday, hopefully will be discharged today with engineering works all fitted to my gob.

I hope you make a full recovery. Did they get much from you? ( cash, cards)

'No receipt for cash transactions' I'm quite sure that's completely illegal. I hope the HMRC lot give them some grief.

Agreed. I already have an email from the HMRC confirming they have received and will be looking into my 'tip off'

well the jaguar did pass the MOT this morning, not bad since we got the test station with the brake lamps not working.

it is something to do with the park switch thing, to get the transmission into drive out of park the brake pedal needs to be pressed and that releases the gear change. i had to use the release to get it into gear this morning, it seems that doing that has knocked the brake lights off.....

they must have had a wee fiddle and got it working cos the car did pass afterall. and now the friggin' lamps have decided to stop working again this afternoon. all i did was wash the bloody thing!

bastard thing.

i think i'll be getting that sorted out, then put it on sorn and then get the damn thing sold,

Attention! if every animal with less than two legs could kindly piss off out of my house, that would be super!

I was cleaning the car this evening and a bastard-big snake cruised across the lawn, casually sauntered vertically up the gable wall and disappeared under a loose roof tile.

I dont know what its doing in my loft but I would prefer if it did it elsewhere.

Volksy that is shitty, hope you have a speedy recovery

I appear to have acquired a Kia Pride.

That should be something to grin about, paint it rainbow coloured and call it gay pride

oh even better news on the xj6 front, looking on various forums these symptoms point towards the car needing a new brake light switch.

how bad can that be, after all its just a wee switch on the brake pedal?

£75 plus vat......

oh bloody hell......

anyone fancy a slightly broken jaguar xj-r?

I am becoming a right grumpy git these days...

I had to go and collect some fancy photo frame for the other half today from one of these fancy boutique gift shop places, anyway I collected and paid for the item in cash and the girl gave me my penny change 'Thanks' 'Oh can I have a receipt please?'

'No' she says, 'but Its ok because its come from us'  Errr what? I just want a receipt please? (at this point I realise I don't think she rung the transaction through the till)

She tells me I can only have a receipt if I pay by card i.e. the little tear off receipt from the card machine. 'Sorry, no receipt for cash payments'

What annoyed me was she got arsey with me for asking for a receipt, so sod them I came home and submitted a suspected tax evasion form to the HMRC. I cannot see any other reason for the refusal of a receipt for paying by cash to a reputable business.

Yeah I know, grumpy git victor meldrew get a life etc etc...

I don't begrudge any small business or individual for avoiding tax. Relatively, every large business or really rich person pays considerably less tax than the rest of us by using legal 'loopholes'. The loopholes don't exist for poorer people. If we want to pay less tax its illegal.

The only reason I pay my tax is that I am not self employed and I fucking well have to. If I could think of a good way to avoid it and not get caught I would, as would everyone else. For instance, my mate doesn't think it right that he can pay himself from his business in dividends to avoid NI. However, he would be mad not to as legislation allows him to and he can get a few grand in his back pocket each year for nowt.

What does make me chuckle is that the government convince us that we should be dobbing each other in for small change when legislation remains the same and allows those with buckets of cash to pay naff all.

Its like the entire immigration thing. Most of the people who are anti immigration are from the poorer end of the social spectrum. Somehow, someone has managed to convince these people that the reason they are so hard done by is the fault of other poor people, while those who actually hold the key to sort out the problems can sit there laughing at their 'subjects' bickering at each other over nothing.

Yours sincerely

Turn the poor against the poor, innit.

I think some people see FORENS driving around in nicer cars than them, living in nicer houses, but it doesn't occur to them that they're just better at saving and don't spend £150 a week in the supermarket like they do. HANDOUTS FROM THE GOVERNMENT ISN'T IT.

Posted

All the shit in the gutter press and television programmes about unemployed people (seemingly) having a ball at the tax payers expense, which conveniently makes what seems to be the majority think that everyone claiming some kind of benefit is a scrounger. The government must love that sort of thing, hence no (real) opposition when they screw the lower paid and unemployed into the ground. Bedroom tax? Why not fucking do it for those with 10 bedroomed houses and one or two kids? Oh, it's because they're loaded anyhow and probably either a member of or funding a political party themselves.

I'm sick of people blaming the current state of the UK on (immigration and) the unemployed, not everyone claiming benefits does so because they can't be arsed working, and what happened to those who worked for years and paid their way, then lose their jobs? Zero hours contracts and minimum wage (not cost of living wages) aren't helping those on the bottom rung of the financial ladder.

Getting people who should either know better, or in some cases haven't the brains to realise what they're doing, to appear in programmes making themselves look daft isn't helping, but the audiences are lapping it up.

To me, this started years back when Thatcher was in charge, she managed to convince people to snitch on people working whilst on the dole etc, and a whole new 'culture' was born. It almost doesn't matter if you think it's right or wrong, but someone getting a few hours in cleaning windows or jet washing paths or whatever to earn a couple of quid for themselves and their family should be f*cking well applauded, not a target for some snitching jealous bastard to tell the DSS about.

When I worked for the DHSS, we used to just throw "squealer letters" in the bin. Weren't supposed to, like, but we did.

Some people did take the piss though: I had a guy phone me up looking for a review of his DLA claim. He rang me from the sawmill where he was working. I could hardly hear him over the noise.

I agree with the 4th paragraph about immigration.

Back to paying tax.... I don't begrudge a small business trying to make a go of it, what I begrudge is asking for a receipt and point blank being refused one by some snotty little cow because I paid in cash. Selling items and not ringing it through the till is not a loophole, its just illegal.

I R FAIL at catering. Got myself a nice bit of beef in black bean sauce for lunch, brought it to the dining table but failed to see the glass of water already there. Plate hits glass, tilts and tips my piping hot lunch all over the white tablecloth, my chair, the floor and some on my foot, which burnt a bit. Now the tablecloth looks like it's been shat on and there's rice all over the carpet, which is a royal PITA to get rid of - the neighbour's cat has an insatiable appetite and is always round here scavenging but typically he's not around when I need him. That was a rather less enjoyable lunch than I intended.

I did find the cat. Normally he eats pretty much anything but he took one brief look at the rice and wandered off. Awkward little git.

When I was on the dole I was signing on one day and the window cleaner cleaning the office windows came in, signed on then went back to cleaning the windows.

Quite a number would roll up in work vans to sign on too.

A mate and I were doing some painting for a widow and her daughter, the husband having recently been run over outside the house.

After a few days we found that they both worked at the dole office a couple of miles away.

What really annoys me is I have to charge VAT but asking for a recipt from any ebay seller is a nightmare. I was interested in some bits for my Rolls listed by a car breaker who refused to supply a VAT invoice. I should of reported him really as lets face it as much as we hate paying tax of any sort, without it there would be even less in the way of public services.

Of course,it may well have been some underpaid staff member deciding that the  X amount deserved to be in her pocket, and not the till..........

Due to a long weekend on the Scottish diet of fried food and beer, I am currently suffering from PSA (post shitefest arse).

This involves the dropping of fluids with little warning.

That diet is the reason we are all so skinny*
