The grumpy thread

My cars been parked outside since last Friday (sick dog means not going anywhere other than to nip out with the other when Phoebes not looking!) and today, while cleaning up dog shit (oh the fookin' joy) glanced at the back of my car and.... some twats hit it!

Not 'bad' but bad enough to need paint. So now I'm gonna go roundall the cars in the area until I find a blue car with silver paint on its fron bumper.

Be a man and just wipe it a bit then put the jumper on. Enjoy the delicious fragrance for DAYS! :)

Having carefully gone through all the service history on the 75 and made a call to the garage that used service it I have learnt that the belts have NEVER been changed! Argh so I need to find £600 before too long.

Its a keeper so I must get it done. Being a low mileage car has certainly helped it last this long..

Although I am aware of a couple of 1999 launch cars still running on original belts :o

Booking fees? PAh! I had to pay £1 for an e-ticket once.

Seriously, a quid for a computer to send me an email.

I think it's normal to charge extra for the privilege of using your own paper and ink.

I'm a bit gutted as i let my nice Alpine CD/Bluetooth/USB radio go with my Merc as i could be bother to wire in the old one again, The CD player in the Starlet is shite as the volume control is so fiddly that it goes down instead of up and it keep reseting the bass and loudness to off so I've bought a another JVC unit of ebay for £30, I can't believe how cheap CD player are now. I paid £200 for my first one 15 years ago.

The 300E still has a decent Blaupunkt radio-cassette fitted.  I must let Mr. Wobbler have his Shakatak tape back...  :)

I inherited an M People CD with the Volvo. I tried to return it to Jonathan but he said it came with the car and he wasn't taking it.

Speaking of tapes/CDs that go with cars, when I had the E-reg Sterling I bought myself a 'Rover Sterlimg drivers information Cassette'.

It had some patronising woman and a slightly posh wannabe 'BBC anouncer from the 80s' bloke telling the driver of the car how things work and what buttons do what. Plus, it also had some brilliantly half-arsed sounding mid-80s synthesizer music that you could apparently "set your stereo to". Quality from Rover.

I've spent all day charging up my old ipod thing that my daughter found down the back of a cupboard. It didn't work, so I was a bit pissed off, until I realised I'd spent all day 'charging' the headphone socket.

Then I managed to transfer my secret monetary stash to my bank account without realising what I was doing and my missus has found it. So that's that fucked, then.

Just posted on Samba's thread about his sills and it made me remember a discussion I had about parts the other week.

When I got the shock absorber for the Visa the chaps father had a business selling exhausts. He said that he had (and still has) loads of exhausts for old cars but the stuff that was popular in France is getting thin on the ground as he exports it all over to them.

He seemed to think that since t'interweb has been around, as parts become rarer where there are more of any particular type of car and demand drives up the price, owners start looking abroad to where there is less demand and parts are often cheaper.

So in the case of my Visa where there are quite a lot of parts available for a relatively rare car meaning prices are dirt cheap, eventually as 99% of the UK parts will disappear over the channel to keep the much more abundant French Visas going, it will dramatically reduce the UK stock low eventually driving up prices here.

I realise at the moment t'interweb works well for me too, as I can access parts from all over the UK easily where I might have had to use jungle drums and smoke signals to find them before but I understand his logic and think the possibility of reasonably priced parts drying up prematurely is probably quite likely for certain cars.

^ yep I hear that. I've tried looking in Italy for Innocenti regent front wings for my allegro. Sadly the Italians thought less of it than we did and didn't buy any.

I've been trying to find some sensibly priced Mk1 Ibiza wings for a while now. I can't justify the high prices the Germans want for new nasty patterns, at virtually the value of the car for a pair, but can I find an alternative anywhere?

Can i buggery?

Surely Spain must have a source of second hand Ibiza wings?? Are your existing ones beyond MIG and filler?

I want a company to make bits to order that won't cost the earth.

I know hand built cars cost a fortune but it does show that any panel can be made. Why can't they do that for these wings and other bits people are needing?

Same goes for plastic bits. With 3D printing now not being uncommon it sold be as easy as ticking a box or two

Posted

I've been looking at glassfibre replacement front wings, but several people have told me they aren't strong enough for mot standard. Does this sound likely? They have to be stronger than my current ones held together by filler and paint

Posted

A wing is only a cover, glass fibre is ok for the mot test, a tester would do well to spot it

Posted

They are not allowed to press down on the wings to test shocks etc now either

I have just seen someone take a photo of themself with there phone on stick   I have google its and it is a selfie stick. What the actual feck as the world come to

Wings are not structural, they're covers. Fibreglass wings have been around for decades for some cars, and other new ones have plastic as standard like fat bottomed Meganes.

Shows how selfish some people are. It's changed from "look, Taj Mahal!" To "Look at me in front of the Taj Mahal! Look at me! Me! ME! MEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Parky, I've tried everywhere!

I need 4. One set is saveable, the other are so thin, everywhere, that they are effectively unwell able. The time I would need, when they are cheap bolt on, makes it an uneconomic decision.

Nay worries, they are still legal, just damn tired! I'll not be scrapping, however bad.
