Fun fact: I auditioned for the Lancaster University Challenge team but declined the invitation because the captain was a smoking quim.

Also, I failed the final interview,

This happened on our line last night (one of my depot collegues was involved), very glad that injuries were very few and minor but very sad all round.

Horrible story - that does unfortunately sound like malicious action, as the police said there's no logical reason why that many horses would be on a railway line. They don't tend to compulsively follow each other en masse like cattle or sheep, although if they were used to human contact, it would be very easy to lead them all through a fence gap. Seems odd that they can't trace the owners, though.

First two weeks I've lived here my bins haven't been collected so i emailed the council to complain. They said the bins have to be right on the edge of my property (so about 5 meters from the road as opposed to 10) which seems petty but I did it anyway. They still weren't collected this morning and are now fill to bursting

Don't talk to me about bins....

I don't do the grumpy thread very often and there's a reason,

until the next time.

Although having said that I emailed the head of waste collection last night to say it hadn't been done and first thing this morning someone turned up and collected them. Also got a reply straight away apologising and saying it won't happen again. So fair play to him for sorting it so quickly.

Rant over...

Bloody Rover won't start again, in spite of spending £££ on new battery (which it probably needed anyway, to be fair).  It's pissing down with rain and blowing a gale plus there's nobody around to help, so I won't be testing HT leads any time soon.

I work in IT and as a rule I refuse to fix anyone's computer. Fixing a personal computer can be a pain in the arse and take up chunks of my limited spare time. So when a mate at the garage asked me to look at his broken pc I had to begrudgingly say yes, he's helped me with my cars a few times so I really couldn't say no.

A couple of issues quickly sorted then I did a malware scan, 515 objects found. These removed and it still wouldn't connect to the internet. Norton 360 was installed, so I removed that and everything is now working ... So what the fuck did that shit software do? apart from steal my afternoon.

Dishwasher broken, my computer broken, the Leone broken and a wet and mouldy wall in my wifes room. All in one week. I am grumpy! :?

I'm as thick as shit, but if someone said to me I could appear on telly with a red hot fanny I'd have been there in a shot.

Ah yes, they do that sometimes. Is it dead or just spinning over?

Posted

Spinning over, just not catching.  Doesn't seem to make any difference what I do with the choke.

This seems to come and go:  after I charged up the old battery the other day it fired up very quickly, so I took it for a run;  a couple of days later same non-starting story.  Aha, thought I, this elderly battery isn't holding charge, so I got a shiny new heavy duty Varta jobby with lots of yummy amps in it for cold starting.  Dropped it in today, and same old story.

It might possibly be that the new battery is slightly down on charge, I suppose:  I'll hook it up to the juicer and have another go.

If that doesn't do it, I'll get someone to turn it over while I fiddle with the throttle/choke at the carb end of the cable in case the choke is sticking or something.  I've threatened it with Easy Start as well. The missus is away until Monday but a mate is coming round early Sunday morning and might find he has to earn his coffee.

Meanwhile, the MOT runs out on Monday I think, and my usual place isn't returning my calls.  Cosmic.

Skizzer, if you think the car might be down on charge can you not plug it in to another one to give it added jumpage to try and start it?

If it's spinning the bit should start . What's your fuel level like? Youre not parked on a slope are you this was a recurring theme with my one.

Fair point, I could do, but I've got a decent charger so TBH it's probably just as easy to hook the battery up to that for a couple of hours.  I'm in no desperate rush.

Mmm, interesting - it's pointing very slightly downhill on the road now, was a bit more downhill on the drive before - both when it first didn't start and when it subsequently did.  (Level ground is in short supply round here because Wales.)

I've only got a very vague idea what the fuel level is like because both the fuel gauge and odometer are non-functioning.  It shouldn't be empty, but might be low-ish and as it's been 3 months or so since I filled up it will probably benefit from having a can of fresher petrol sloshed in there.  I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Good thoughts chaps, thanks.

I'm suspecting dampness has done bad things to the HT leads or something.  Next thing to try is to clean them up, dry them out and attack them with WD40.  If it ever stops raining.  (God I need my big shed.)

I got a dream car today - 911 turbo (997.2 version) in silver. I was most impressed until I gave it tooooo much welly and hit a barrier and over-revved the motor big time. Lots of damage and serious amounts of smoke and very little 'go'  :(   Think it's a write off.....

Yes, after a year and a bit away, I've re-discovered X-box! I blame a mate who gave me the game.....

On my one if the car had been sitting for a couple if days the fuel in the line ran back to the tank and the angle meant the fuel was out if range of the pump pickup and you got no go.

Driving through Liverpool and the Wirral today..... Horribly aggressive drivers and my Satnav totally confused .

Bewildering junctions etc. Am officially old it seems!

Oh great, I'm there tomorrow in the Setra and a seven year old sat nav. At midnight.

I remember attempting a section of the 'Ring in a 1st-gen 911 with the engine from a GT3. It left everything else for dead, but if it so much as brushed the edge of the track, it would literally take off like a plane in a completely random direction. I think it took me about 150 attempts before I managed it.

I've now banned myself from ever owning a console again - although I have done that before with little success.
