I bought a pair of repro engine mounts for my Herald as the originals were totally fubar. The engine has not been run once since they were fitted less than 18 months ago and it's been sat under a cover awaiting major work. A couple of weeks ago I uncovered it to find one of them had perished so badly it had actually snapped! I expect that were they fitted to a car in daily use, their lifespan could be measure in hours if not minutes.

Ridiculous eBay fees and postage costs.

Sold a blu ray player I had. It was a really nice one that I'd paid about £150 for a couple of years back.

Wasn't using it so ebayed it. Sold for £40 which is fair enough.

eBay took 10% = £36

PayPal took another couple of quid £34

Royal Mail took twelve pounds fucking 80 to post it. So I was left with slightly over half what it sold for.

At 22 quid I'd rather have kept it. How folk make a living selling on eBay is beyond me.

If you were buying to sell you'd need to be looking at things selling at 25% plus over what you were paying to make any kind of mark up which is near impossible.

My Lovely old Volvo 240 estate, J27 ETC is no longer on the DVLA database. I only sold it a couple of years ago, it was mint and I did a stack of work to it. Very sad.

I dunno why I bother.

You can make money on evilbay, but not by paying royal fail £13.

Use parcel2go or similar. I bet that would have cost half that to send. Oh, and make the buyer pay the postage!

Posted

I put it on as free postage and decided just to let the auction end at whatever it ended at. Id expected to pay a fiver or so post. Was flabbergasted by parcel farce's charge - and that wasnt even first class!

Got loads of stuff I'd like to eBay, but their fees are just fucking stupid.

What alternatives are there though? Ebay must have the best coverage and viewage of evar.

I've been pissed off with the fees but then I've sold shite that wouldn't have sold elsewhere.

This, very much this.

Business sellers get a slight discount on fees depending on volume and I can't imagine anyone running a business on ebay pays standard RM prices. For courier stuff Parcel Force are still way off although are getting cheaper but still not enough.

Hermes are the courier of WIN.

I have paid less than £10 to send items that Royal Fail wanted £22 to send.

Did they use your avatar as an advert? That one must've passed me by.

Going to echo bol here. Why didn't the buyer pay postage?

I have received 3 parcels through hermes and 2 of those got damaged along the way, my motad bike exhaust looked as if they had been using it as a baseball bat, my n.o.s radiators mount got wrecked and when the seller's tried to claim guess what no money back from hermes but a bonus on the 3rd parcel they couldn't dent or twist a soft toy

So moral of that story, if you send by hermes make sure you over wrap your items for safety

Gumtree, Preloved, FaceAche etc are alternatives. They're just harder to use for various reasons. The stuff I want to stick on there is better for eBay due to audience and the fact I'm not overly certain of value, so the bidders can decide that for me.

However after the cycle episode I'm fucked if I'm going to find out the costs are exorbitant when it's too late.

What's needed is someone like Dave with his version and a shit load of money for advertising, and I'd also suggest someone to take eBay to some sort of commission over their insistance Paypal is used in a lot of cases.

Moving my missus' stuff to my flat before we embark out into the great big world of A Place Of Our Own and at the end of a long day I caught her head with the tip of my bootlid as i was going to shut it. Got "Stern look #4" for the rest of the evening.

Also, am apparently trying to be too helpful at some points (Ikea checkout playing up) and not helpful enough at others (not noticing her trying to wrap a parcel). Can't win sometimes!

It'll be 30 years in September since me and Mrs N were at this stage, and the only thing that's changed is I now can't win EVER.

Another eBay/postage moan! Not had any trouble with people on there really, up to now but I've recently had to open three cases at once. Fortunately now resolved, but I've sold one item on Wednesday the buyer still hasn't contacted me to arrange collection.

The real moan is RM prices though - I often use Hermes but didn't know where I will be for the next few days so decided to go to the Post Office. One item I'd worked out as costing £2.80 to send, so I charged £3.50. But because part of the wrapping bunched up and didn't go through the slot, it was classed as a large parcel and hence £5.20! Not wanting to go back home, re-pack and then have another 10 mile round trip to the PO I decided to take the hit.

But the next item I'd charged £6.50 as a guess, based on what other people were charging to post the same thing. They wanted over £12!!! So I didn't post that...will have to get Hermes to collect. I've found them to be OK, but I always pack stuff thinking people are going to chuck it around!

For courier stuff, have a look at www.interparcel.com  Their 48 hr economy service is UPS and is bob on.

Hermes can be cheap but I'm not sure I'd be happy using them.

I'm sure he doesn't mind. Just so long as you credit him whenever it is used. Looolz

I have a royal fail business account that gets the large letter / low value small packets at a nice discount to counter prices.

£15+ / larger parcels goes herpes via the local parcel shop. My stuff is unbreakable which helps. 2nd class 1kg is £2.50 on PPI, and £2.78 herpes. So it's recorded delivery for 28p :)

£50+ / is breakable goes interparcel / ups.

The biggest challenges on evilbay are a) evilbay promoting the idea of pay for 2nd class post, then throw a tantrum when it's not there next day.

b ) I can do that pin money sellers. The ones that buy the component bits on ebay in quantity 10, and post at retail cost. These are the geniuses that think they're the first to have the plan of I'll run the price to nowt, eliminate everyone else n then put it up to 10 billion pounds.

On the return journey of a cambelt job on a modern TDi Passat, all timed up & tensioned and now the flippin' camshaft locking pin won't come out.

Seems I'm not alone as several other people on the net have suffered the same fate.

No kidding, I'm trying to avoid having to pull the cam pulley off to get it out.

Pisser. There seems to be a few for sale just now though sometimes you'll go months with none for sale at all.
