56 is one year older than me...

Highly talented bloke, amongst his many great characters Kevin Turvey (investigates) and Rick in The Young Ones were just superb.

My DAB unit in the car went titzup today, and then Rik Mayall, AKA the best Jackanory presenter EVER died as well.

BASTARD!

R.I.P both of you. You'll be missed.

I broke my kettle last week.  The switch packed up.  It's one of these modern plastic jobs, so I assumed it was designed to be unfixable and this evening I bought a new one.  Went to sling the old one out, then decided to have a look at it anyway to see if I could see exactly what was wrong with it.  Five minutes later it was fixed.

This has made me grumpy.  Not so much because I wasted money on a new kettle (kettles aren't exactly expensive), but because I slipped into the modern mentality of if something breaks, throw it away and buy a new one.

Still, at least I now have a spare kettle.

I've broken the charging socket on my Lumia Windows phone, and the only working spare phone I have is an iPhone 4S. FUCK.

I think my humour sensor is broken. I don't remember Rik Mayall being funny since I turned 16 (though obviously it's pretty sad that he's died at such a young age) and my wife and I tried watching some Comedy Gala thing on Channel 4. The highly polished crowd seemed to find it hilarious. We just found it noisy and annoying.

We do like Pointless though. AND I found a grey beard hair today. Shit. I'm old.

Such a shame about Rik Mayall. He went to my school, although apparently he hated it and left early. Loved the young ones and the Alan B'astard thing, my favourite was definitely Bottom though, effing brilliant.

What is 'Britain First'? Is it another sub UKIP political grouping like the English Democrats or is it something I will never encounter as I have never, and will never, go on Facebook?

Lunatic fringe of the already nutty and unpleasant BNP. Mate of mine shared THIS on Facebook which explains it quite well.

supposedly he said he'd do flashheart aslong as the character was more bonkers than the rest of cast.

Its in my eye. And I need my eye for looking at things on ebay. If I lose an eye, it'll fuck up my perceptions and I might end up buying something good.

Rik Mayall's tragic death has really shaken me up, I'm 42 in a few weeks and have been feeling really old for a while now, I know I know, its no age I should be in my prime etc but I just don't feel it, the when someone who was a key figure of my youth but was young himself passes away suddenly it really makes you think, The young ones was essential viewing when I was at school, you were nobody if you didn't watch it or worse still your parent's didn't let you watch it as it was so radical, angry in your face type humour that we all bought into, to be absolutely honest I didn't always  find it that funny at the time but didn't want to be the odd one out, then the New Statesman came along and I was converted, really loved that programme.

Anyway I had to smile at Adrian Edmondson's response to the news;

There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing," said Edmondson on Monday.

"They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him.

"And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish bastard"

Supberb. I'm sure that RIk would have found this funny!

Rik Mayall died at just 56. That's made me very unhappy.

..... I feel your pain, M8

I've just ticked off one of his 'bucket list' items :- "live life to the full @ 57"

The [never getting any older, now!] Ones will always be with us... bring on the repeats
