I admit I may be over-reacting a bit, I'm very good at getting the wrong end of the stick (see aspergers), it's just if I agree a deal, I agree a deal. The only time I have ever walked away from a deal (a blind ebay bid) was on a Riley RM Woody where the seller had neglected to mention that one side was missing, and even then I paid his relist fee for ebay. He is a dealer and I accept that he needs to make a profit, but that does not necessarily mean I have to sell it to him at a price of his choosing.

I have sent him a response assuring him that there are no hard feelings, but that we are to far apart on opinions as to the value to have a deal. I may well end up selling it for less, but that is for me to decide.

You're not over reacting he sounds like a twat and I wouldn't sell it to him either. But then I also wouldn't have text him back or anything

^ This.  And I wouldn't have paid his relist fee, either.  But I think AU is a much nicer person than me...  :)

I think the Xantia wants glowplugs.  When running on diesel and in the summer you shouldn't really need the glowplugs at all, but now it's doing that thing the BX did where I often have to turn the glowplugs on twice on the first start of the day.  I know TheMoog replaced three of the four glow plugs sometime before April last year, I'm going to just bite the bullet and do all four of the bastarding things with new ones.  I hate doing glow plugs on Citroens.

Posted

You did the clutch, glowplugs are a piece of piss in comparison. Just replace the one The Moog didn't replace.

IDI diesels need a glow even in mid summer, but two glows sounds excessive.

Weather turned shit

Boss told me that promotion isn't likely to happen because, and I'm paraphrasing here, Management couldn't co-ordinate a jovial get together quaffing inebriating beverages at a facility which manufactures the aforementioned intoxicating liquors, and it's best for me to get out whilst I still can. Easier said than done however...

And to top it off my team captain for the co-ed sport that I play has informed us that due to a bank error not in our favour, we can't play an upcoming tournament where we normally would, but we can play in the division below, which just happens to have the team with my slightly psycho ex in...

Had finally got into a really good place after a shit year (thanks in considerable part to the ex), and now, just deflating...

You guys are ORSUM though

How long you been there for Slappy? Don't let them force you out of a job just because it makes life easier for them.

And what do they mean by 'Get out whilst you can' like they are doing you a favour with that shit peice of advice.

Look around externally but try and stick around for as long as possible.

I'm just clocking in for a minor whinge; I'm currently trying to sell my old A35, it's not made easy by me having a sentimental attachment to it, but it has confirmed that I hate dealing with people. It's a bit of an odd-ball and difficult to put a value on, but I have had a bit of interest in it. I have described it fairly and have already managed to convince a few people that it is not for them.

I did get one chap make an offer without seeing it, despite me saying it's best viewed before making an offer. After a bit of to and fro texts, emails and phone (which incuded the time honoured phrase "I won't mess you about") we agreed a deal. He eventually turned up on Saturday, after several cancelled arrangements, it was obvious he was not going to collect the car as he turned up with an already loaded trailer. He barely spoke to me, looking all over the car, before proceeding to tell me what he thought was wrong with it and how it needed a £2k respray, etc. and then reducing his agreed offer by a third. (His agreed offer already being £1k under my original asking price). I remained polite and he left me to "think it over" as he was passing back on the Sunday with an empty trailer. I received a text on Sunday asking if I had thought any more about his offer and telling me that I had seemed stressed on the Saturday (no, I was annoyed, but trying not to show it) and that I was seriously over-valuing the car, but he would still pick it up. As he had said to come back to him if I was interested I did not bother.

Today I have received further texts, a message from ebay and finally a phone call from his wife, urging me to take the offer and they would pick it up today. I explained that I was quite disappointed by the offer and was not prepared to sell at that price, the offer was upped by a whole hundred pounds and again I am being urged to "think it over".

I really have no idea what the car is worth (ok, what someone is prepared to pay

This. If you are getting messages etc and questions, you can't be far off its correct value. Stick to your guns, there is an arse for every seat

AU -

I get a bit iffy with folk and find them hard to read, too.

Reading between the lines, I reckon matey has lined a buyer up for the car and is now leaning on you hard so he doesn't lose face. He clearly thinks you have some kind of emotional vulnerability so he's playing on it, trying to make you feel awkward so he ends up getting what he wants ('if I pile on the pressure, I'll get the car because it gets rid of me'.)

You don't have to 'appreciate' his profit margins, either. Fuck him. He just wants the money, like all of us do. He's a dealer, he's out to make coin - and so are you.

TBH, I reckon you dealt with it brilliantly. I'd have clammed up far sooner and set the phone to 'ignore', but you did great given the circumstances.

AU: you're doing alright there mate, tell him/her your price is what it's at and if he wants to swing by with an empty trailer then he needs to bring the cash that you want with him. End of story. No further comms from that point on.

They either will or won't.

You will find a buyer for it but it might take a bit of time. Hang on in there fella. Sounds like you are doing just fine as others have said.

Major grumble.....

Mrs and the in laws have booked a large house to rent in Pembrokeshire for the week and went down on Saturday with the plan being for me to join them later today

Having several kids I never get to use my MGF so was quite looking forward to some open topped motoring to one of my favourite parts of the country.

I`m due to leave in an hour and its pissing down sideways  :(

Posted

it may be wet now, but I'm sure* the weather is going to get better later in the week.

besides, you cannot have a rainbow with out having the rain.

I'm about half way between you and them and it's stopped raining here.  You'll be alright.

Yup. Has brightened up a treat here in mid-Wales. Was utter shite this morning, made worse because I had to get up at half six to do a school run. Foggy, rainy, horrible. However, the landscape isn't going to look so beautifully lush if it doesn't get damp every now and then.

Scratch that, it's just started raining again.

But wot DW said.

Why the Fuck can I not hire a LWB LDV Maxus in Swansea or the surrounding area this Saturday? No, I don't want a Sprinter or Crafter as I hate the Bastard things.

Other quality* vehicles have been offered, will post picture of (temporary) purchase on collection of fine* chariot.

Cycling to Halfauds this afternoon made much more pleasant by chatting to the rather attractive sales asst who I spoke to on Saturday (early to mid 30's) - phwoar.

However nearly getting taken out by a cunt in a small post office van who just had to cut in front of me on the small roundabout took the shine off.

How I didn't T bone the front wing of the van is beyond me.

I seem to have inherited my dear old dad's vocal projection (he - former RSM) and the phrase 'you fucking idiot wanker' rang out. Small birds dropped out of trees, children started crying, kitten howled and nuns ran for cover. He got the idea and quickly drove off.

This has been the only 'incident' I have experienced since getting back on the bike a few weeks ago, so perhaps I shouldn't really grump.

labyrinthitis apparently :(

I get that sometimes, usually when I don't have time for it. It's properly shit but it is often mostly gone the next day. Best to just lie down and wait for it to go.

I really have no idea what the car is worth (ok, what someone is prepared to pay is the usual answer), it probably isn't worth much as I originally thought, but even if I am cutting off my nose to spite my face, this has left a nasty taste in my mouth and I would now not sell to him even if he did go back up to the originally agreed sum. I should be used to this sort of thing by now, but it's really wound me up.

My 'theory' when it comes to low offers is that whoever cracks first, is the one who wants the deal the most. The fact he's text messages and emails tells me he wants it far more than he's tried to let on, and if the car had been as potentially costly as he's suggested, he'd have made one offer and walked away or he'd have just knobbed it off in the first place.

The fact they've been urging you to sell it at their shit offer tells you all you need to know, I'd hazard a guess he either knows it's worth shit loads more or has a buyer lined up for it. Once anyone starts 'advising' you when you're selling something it's a pretty surefire sign they're a knobhead. It's never likely to be a car you're going to sell quickly, but that doesn't mean you have to accept the level of shit he's been using and, imho, you should tell him that he offered you X amount without viewing and if he's not happy then it's not your problem. Everytime he offers you £100 more, just add £100 to the first price he offered to piss him off.

My cousin has been suspended from his jop as a supervisor.

His crime? Telling a couple of Eastern Europeans to get back to work - they were skiving.

Naturally they played the race card.

This country is going to hell in a handcart.

Tell the cunt if he has somebody lined up for it then ask him to send them to you, thereby cutting out the middleman.

Coming home from work yesterday the Nissan Navarra ( I think), that had just pulled out of the m3 works area on new road Bagshot, slowed down and the driver's door opened and they chucked out a used nappy in a bag, then a coffee cup and macdonalds bag. Car that was passing me sounded their horn and through the still open driver's door came the raised hand with single digit rampant. The planet would be far better off without people like this. Scum.

I've made a low offer on a really horrible car that I don't even especially want, and certainly don't need, yet I'm gutted they haven't got back to me about it.

I haven't received your offer though, Cav?

These rats should be gassed.

The road where I park at work is sometimes deluged with fag ends where some shit has emptied the contents of their ashtray.
