I bought an old phone that'd been converted with a bt plug , plugged it in and rang it

I was straight back in the 70s with the bell ringing , you couldn't say you hadn't heard it , I could hear it ringing  up the garden.

Absolutely brilliant things. I've got an American one from the 80s with some really loud bells in it. You can hear it everywhere even with the doors closed.

All I get ringing me on the landline are scammers , if it weren't for the fact there's no cable here I wouldn't have a landline at all

The row over Greensill Capital and David Cameron. We have become like a banana republic.

We are not special in that regard; corruption has always happened in public office although evidence suggests the UK has 'enjoyed' relatively low levels compared to peer nations. It's fair to say the Greensill thing seems particularly egregious though, the insidious nature of what might be deemed 'soft' corruption as opposed to stuffed brown envelopes makes it easier for spivs like Cameron to  convince themselves it's OK.

Britain has usually been quite subtle about its corruption over past decades, but better information/leaks these days means it's much more visible.

Doesn't really matter what system you have, because corruption will always be there, and people will invariably adapt and learn how to game the system.

The marvel that is the human condition, right there.

My theory about why Top Gear suddenly became so 'laddish' and destructive is that someone, somewhere pointed out that it was all a bit private school; what with Jeremy, James, Timothy Needell, Quentin Wilson & Victoria Double-Barrelled.

Those Little Nippers really are the bollocks. I don't know why I didn't order them in the first place. I've used them before with good results. The splatter traps are for bigger vermin methinks. The bait was being taken without springing the trap.

Set a Little Nipper last night baited with Double Decker chocolate bar, and had my first dead Stuart Little this morning.

Radio shows and radio stations. I'm mid forties so haven't listened to the faeces that is R1 for many years. R2 is ok occasionally although many of the castoff R1 DJs were crap years ago, let alone now.

Local radio- Pirate FM - rubbish.

Heart Radio - dull as dishwasher.

I used to listen to XFM and enjoyed it until it morphed into Radio X with Moyles/Vaughan.

Recently I returned to Virgin Radio.  I know the general concensus is Chris Evans is a knob, but I can just about tolerate him. Thing is, I'm now noticing he talks over the start and end of EVERY SINGLE TRACK he plays and it's becoming tiresome.

Back to Spotify again I guess...

Any online stations in the vein of the old XFM and which aren't complete shite which anyone recommends?

I presume you're way out of London. Think yourself lucky you can't get James O'Brien on LBC. He just drips poison for 3 hours. Yes, I know there's an off switch and I use it at 10 am Monday to Friday.

Cornwall,  so miles from everywhere*.

I tend to use the Echo to listen to online radio though, so am open to suggestions.

You mean, just like Julia Dunning-Kruger Hartley-Brewer does and until he was booted out, Farage did? (presenters chosen purely for balance, you understand)

LBC's national online and on DAB and I still feel no need to listen to it. I hate talk radio with a passion - most of my radio listening is Radio 3.

Have you tried Radio Garden for something to listen to?

http://radio.garden/visit/falmouth/W4vw1MWo

The world's really your oyster with that.

What an amazing find! I love the way you can travel around and choose from a huge array. I can see myself spending a fair bit of time searching on there!

I always thought his first name was Tiffany.  Disapoint.

Yeah, sorry I've probably just destroyed your day 🤣

Unfortunately I have a habit of sending people down rabbit holes...

I've heard it said that having a double-barrelled name used to mean you were posh.

Nowadays, having a double-barrelled name tends to mean you're illegitimate.

At least people don't end up living at the bottom of it, otherwise it would be (a) mine camp....

I'm sick of door knockers, wanna sell you capri m11? Swap broken X box + 50p tonite.

The thing is it's hidden round the back, so all these chancers have been round the back lane where they've no reason to go. So I've stuck up a 2 meter high really shitty fence in front of it. True I'll have to remove shitty fence if I ever get round to moving it, but should cut down on snoopers.

In grumpy thread due to being totally fucked doing it. FFS it's 2 posts, a bit of CLS and some sheets of Onduline. I shouldn't be knackered. #Old man

That's really good! There are even some local FM stations I'd not come across that I should be to listen to while knocking about in a car.

In nearly forty years of car ownership, I suddenly realise that I've never had one with frameless front windows.

Is this as sad as I think, or have I been spared more leaks than a chap could possibly cope with?

I still miss all of my Mantas they were great at everything as long as that everything was smoking tyres and finding hedges/ditches.

I hereby nominate this as post of the year.  So glad I clicked on that link.  Fantastic.  Thank you.  The rest of you should try it.

Frameless windows are grand. It's the sunroof leaks I'd be more worried about....
