Fucking Sydney Trains.

What a lot of daft cunts that couldn’t organise themselves out of a wet paper bag.

That is all.

That feeling better after a bug - false dawn. Back to stomach cramps and other symptoms.

Only blessed relief is my new bidet - cooling relief.

Posh bastard :D

Really worries me that more and more people seem to think it's ok to mouth off utter shit about other people, whether regarding race, gender, lifestyle etc. I thought we were meant to be living in more enlightened times. Instead, I'm left wondering whether other parts of the world might be nicer.

Yes! The police must act immediately to stop all that talk!

Oh dear lord...Whoever you were in the 18 plate Mercedes I let through the narrow bit in Newport Pagnell this afternoon...please don't flash your headlights to say thanks.  I literally had to pull over and wait about a minute before I could see properly again.  Those aren't headlights, they're bloody photonic weapons... That's the first time I've been properly blinded like that.

Quite so....

I was blinded by someone coming the opposite way at the local (small) railway station whilst en route to pick up Mrs Beard last night. No idea what the offending car was though. All I could see was a blinding white/blue glare. Had to pull over and stop for a few minutes. Speed bumps or just poorly surfaced roads. Dunno. Point is that I couldn't see anything for a short while afterwards. Progress eh?

Was a whole £30 ... :-)

I was gonna get one for my new bathroom, sadly not enough space. They have a useful purpose as you get older believe me :)

It's only ever old people who push in front of you, in supermarket queues, or to get on the bus first...

Update from last night, apparently my grasp of history is incorrect, I thought our forebears fought and died in ww2 because they believed in the destruction of bigotry, racism and general evil that Fascism stood for. I thought they fought to liberate Europe and stood up to the vile genocide enacted upon Jews, gypsies, the disabled and anyone that didn’t fit Nazi ideology. But apparently it was actually so we have the right to call people mongs, retards, mental and spakkers without the PC brigade interfering. I really do despair of some of my fellow humans at times :-(

Incidentally that was done for a reason. That's the General Lee, drifting around Lee Circle in New Orleans.

Grumpy ish though because they removed the statue of the namesake because people find history offensive.

Phil

A statue representing white supremacy and slavery in a black majority city, removing it is a good thing.

It'd be like a statue of Hitler existing in Germany 150 years after the defeat, it's historical revisionism in statue form portraying the Confederacy as the winners.

Eh? I can't even see how you leapt to that conclusion. I'd rather people just thought about the power their words have rather than send the rozzers around.

But don't bury it and forget that it happened. That way the next generation(s) may end up making the same mistake.

Also, don't forget that a majority of slave owners in southern Louisiana were black themselves. That gets glossed over real quick.

Either way, greed, avarice, cruelty and bigotry aren't the best things to found your rules and morals on. But again, don't let it be forgotten for the same reason I stated above.

Actually, no. They were just clearing the way for new forms to flourish. We're not yet in the realms of interfering with people's brains and thought processes yet, but God knows the Chinese Government / Amazon / Google are trying their best.

But doesn't history tend to repeat itself eventually anyway?

Then why is a statue the necessary icon of remembrance? An object specifically constructed to venerate an individual.

I have no horse in this race, I’m genuinely curious.

Rather wish we got rid of all the Churchill statues, personally. Mass-murdering prick.

I think a big issue is that a lot of the statuary commemorating confederate heidbummers was erected by colossal racists in the first half of the 20th century to remind the nominally emancipated that they better not get ideas about actually exercising their voting rights, as opposed to memorials erected in the immediate aftermath of the civil war. They shouldn't be forgotten; I like the idea of shunting them somewhere less prominent, like one of those parks filled with soviet era lumps of Stalin, Beria etc that Jonathan Meades toured round once.

Depends if it still represents a significant divide still present, as you say.

To me that's the difference between continuing down the same path despite the war having been lost and recounting only the good, glory days and retaining only the single minded path you want to travel, versus the acknowledgement that perhaps everybody needs to change before said dream that was had can become a reality.

Thankfully a lot of the most millennial generation are no longer directly influenced by the attitudes very prevalent in this country in the early half of the last century (as generations pass on) and things are moving off in their own direction of greater integration.

The entitled generation concern me- but that's another thing entirely.

Just so that I'm entirely clear that I understand you - that's the baby boomers, right?

Here, yes. Then it looped again in the eighties and again in the 2000's.

Anyhow. I've said more than enough.

Get a bum gun. Literally every toilet has one in this part of the world, and once you’ve had one you’ll never go back.

Ah. Er, thanks. It was joyously obvious.

I may be a bit touchy today, having accidentally set some nutcases off with a Facebook post. Wasn't expecting it to turn into threats to 'destroy your world' on YouTube. I must be a celebrity, because apparently I'm now not allowed to have opinions, especially if they don't agree with people who demand the right to free speech. They really don't see the irony...

Not at all :D

I've never used Facebook so I don't have that to contend with. I doubt they are nutcases or wish to destroy your world though. Bored and fed up like a good proportion of the populace?

Come on- what did you post then?

Sat here in bed with tonsillitis so I could use a laugh.

It was political (well, it didn't start off as political) so probably best not.

Fair enough; maybe leave the Facebook alone for a while. Some people use the social media a bit too much ;)

If it's the one I'm thinking of, your position is entirely reasonable.

I've seen that Ian, clearly they have difficulty separating Hubnut as a business from Ian the individual, these same people undoubtedly do business on a daily business with people who if they followed them on social media would think them to he monumental twats, but such is the world, maybe there should be a dedicated Hubnut FB page....
