I have a mate who lives in Bethnal Green. He's white. He loves it.The whole multiculturalism thing is a load of old bollocks though, for a variety of reasons.

I've lost track of the number of times I've heard comments along the lines of "If everyone here put a bit of effort in, this could be the best country on earth"... from the Asians, and "Bloody immigrants stealing our jobs" etc, from the 'natives'.

Sounds about right. A large proportion of the "White British" [or whatever the correct term is this week] population of this country are in no position to be able to make any comments about the state the country is in. It's been shown over and over that many of the jobs immigrants do are jobs that the native population thinks are "beneath them" - in other words they're too fugging bone-idle and would rather sit at home on the sofa all day watching Jeremy Kyle and swigging White Lightning, then go out in the evening and make nuisances of themselves.

I guess "going down the plughole" is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Sorry to try and buck the trend but I think you will find gobshites in every race, creed and religion.I think if you back a few pages on this thread I was talking about an Asian friend of mine spunking three large on the horses last weekend. Does commenting on that in a public forum make me racist? I really don't know. I hope not because a mate is a mate. Lets face it if I could get away with it I would quite happily squander 3K on a Lancia Thema 8.32 and I'd probably be treated as a hero on here. Is that worse? I really don't know.

This applies to where I live. The locals moaning about immigrants are mainly the ones who haven't done a day's work in their lives.

There was the implication that the candidates knew nothing of "British Values", there was an implication that they were unfit to run for an elected position and the fact that they were was "britain going down the plug hole."Looks like a judgement to me.

my earlier post seems to have ruffled a few feathers... so let me explain... firstly there was no racist intent implied... believe it or not im not a racist..(tanye) as for the candidates not knowing nothing of british values.. they may very well do, but it's british values that the have learnt from within their own community... intergration being non existant. so the britain that i grew up in they would know nothing about....thats what i was trying to say.btw.. the 2001 census is way outand i DEFINATELY did not say they that they were unfit to run for a elected position.. or their being elected would make britain a plug hole.. it already is..i also posted it because (my opinion) the leaflets were posted to my house but not by the person that was hoping to get my vote..so there was no intent to offend anyone... i was just stating a point... or does freedom of speech no longer exsist?N.B next time i post anything i will be sure to run it by you guys first.

I don't think it makes you racist; you might lose some money on buying a Thema 8.32, but you'd get at least some of that back. Your friend (whatever race he is) has a gambling habit that's getting out of his control and you were seeking advice about how best to remain his friend whilst not aiding and abetting him to lose further money - the bookie and/or house rarely loose.

Freedom of speech still exists MaxP.I don't neccesarily agree that Britains going down the plughole though. Its not perfect but nowhere is. Some bits are worse than others of course but in general the UK ain't a bad place to live by any means.

Britain went down the plughole years ago. As soon as National Service was canned..... There's no stimulation amongst the youth of toda. All they do is sit on their arses playing COD and going out and getting pissed of a weekend on my tax money. Boot camp wouls sort the lot of em out, whatever colour they are.As for immigration, I reckon Ali G's idea works. If they is a minger, they can piss off. Nah, seriously, I reckon the ability to speak the language, and a genuine skill to be added to the country should be a minimum requirement.

If you speak to people Britian has been "going down the plughole" since the year dot. I think people look back through rose tinted specs sometimes. My Grandparents thought Britian was going to the dogs, by Mum does- sometimes I do! 150 years ago the Britian must have been some sort of heavenly utopia. Either that or it hasnt really got any worse at all.

+1I was a bit of a wide boy in my youth - not too bad, never hurt anyone, but military service straightened me right up.

-1000. Fuck national service! I know there are a load of bloody louts about that need straightening out, but as for myself (and 90% of my mates), I got a job aged 16 and worked all through college, I've never sponged other peoples taxes through laziness, and i've never caused a spot of trouble for anyone. If I was forced to do national service I would've fucked off to France instead, and would probably be some sort of heroin addict/male prostitute living on the streets of Paris by now.

Something similar to 'Bad Lads Army' for offenders would be the best bet I reckon. As Barrett rightly pointed out not every younk kid is a drug addled, granny mugging gonk.Crime is bad but imho every generation thinks the current crop of yoof are the worse ever but life in some parts of Britain from the war years onwards wasn't always nice or easy.Think about it, teds/rockers/mods/skinheads/punks/etc were the 'hoodies' of the day and if people believe all the rubbish about leaving your front door wide open good luck to them.Knives, guns, drugs and muggings have been around for years I'm afraid. I believe the older we get the more we think our generation was holier than the current one. It doesn't mean it's true.Ref. National Service: my dad did his stint in the RAF. He only went up in a 'plane once and was sick as a dog. The rest of the time was mostly spent playing cards for money, secretly drinking and larking about.

Posted

A lot of people cite National Service as the be all and end all to youth problems. I'm also with the guys above who say it's not for everyone. If like them (and me back when I was 16) a kid got of their arse and did something constructive and had good moral values and so on, then there should strictly speaking be no reason to pack them off to two years of misery unnecessarily. I was a 7 stone weakling (still am not far off actually!) and putting me in the army then or even now would probably finish me off.National Service or other government schemes to promote discipline and general values should be reserevd for those who really need it.If that doesn't work there's always euthanasia...

Posted

Indeed Mash. Somehow, taking all the problem kids and training them up in military skills doesn't seem the answer! From historical reading, I think kids and teenagers have always been a bit of a handful. I'm a good sort but I'm sure I got up to some antics in my youth that must have caused upset amongst older folk. It just happens. Not saying there isn't a problem - it'd be nice if all the stupid, workshy scum stopped breeding - but thinking national service is a cure-all is just wrong.Oh and back to grumpiness. My ears are fooked after a recent cold. It's bloody horrible.

I did 4 years for Quuen and country in the seventies. Saw a lot of good blokes ruined by cheap NAAFI booze and dubious German women...........

I should point out that it wasn't National Service I did. FFS, I'm not that old fellas!

A few things......1. Not having a f***ing job/work and keep being turned down 'because I dont have enough experience/not the right person for the job ect...' - Thats if they bother to respond.2. No money - Not having work means no money for petrol (Having a 2.5 doesnt help  ) and no money for anything else.3. F***ing Internet - Got this T-mobile dongle shit. When I first used it during the 30-day "free" trial it wasnt too bad, nothing to write home about but it got me back online after an absence of a few months. Now I'm paying for it (Goodness knows how) the performance has gone srsly shite. On forums for example, when writing out a response/new thread, I'll finish and press 'submit' instead of posting said post, I get a "Internet explorer cannot display the page" or something to that effect, pressing back gives me blank post which I have to write out again! Same thing happens when I open up a new page, it resolves itself when I refresh the page, WTF is going on? I want off this crap!4. Summer - Ok, so the ladees look a little more tasty and theres usually alot more shite on the roads, but the other side of Summer pisses me right off; Garden needs doing more often. Noisy chavs staying out later causing trouble, and generally Summertime always seems to suck the life and energy out of me, I'm not sure why :? Watch this space, I might have more to offload here soon..........

Hmmm, not sure what to make of this morning's grumpiness cause no.1 :? On the one hand I can see the guy's point, on the other it pissed me off.End of the month, bit short and had a parcel to send off but I had some balance in my Royal Mail account, so printed out the label, so far so good. There's a little post office/sweetie shop in the next village that I normally use so I thought I'd drop it off there on my way out this morning."I can't take that, it's been done on the internet and we don't agree with it. You're closing us down doing that"OK...So now do I accept my slapped wrist and insinuation that I alone am the cause of small businesses going under everywhere or do I take all of my postage needs elsewhere and say sod you then you've lost all my custom? Needless to say I didn't buy the other stamps I needed from him.So I took my stuff and battled across the city to the depot and dropped it in there where grumpiness no.2 was encountered."Has it got all the proper postage on it?""Er yes I believe so. Can you stamp my certificate of posting please?""No."OK...No explanation as to why not (I assume again because I purchased postage on line like the child of Satan that I am.And you know when you think of a good comeback after the event? I wonder if I'm not allowed to post letters in the village post box with stamps I've bought from the Supermarket?

Tell that shower of shit in the local Post Office that if you didn't bring anything in to post and others followed suite they'd have even less custom the humourless wankers.Best of all next time grab shit loads of stuff from around the shop, put it all on the counter and then bring an 'internet' parcel out. once they say they won't take it tell them toshove the other items right up their rusty bullet holes.

Mrs Brady, Old Lady in Viz was inspired by Chris Donald's wife's experiences in the local post office.Viz grew so quickly that it was still being run like a cottage industry when it was becoming one of the best-selling magazines in the country. This resulted in Mrs Donald running a serious amount of work through the local post office. Were they grateful? Were they arse. They just moaned because Mrs Donald kept buying all the stamps, leaving none for the Mrs Brady types. The idea of simply buying more stamps in was rejected.

STAMP TRIVIA

On the new stamps (with the little security slits), if you look at them closely in the light you can see "royal mail" written over and over in the background. In the top right corner, just above the crown, the word "MAIL" is mis-spelt. It is mis-spelt differently on each type of stamp so the RM can trace where the stamp came from (ie: book of 4, post office etc).

And you know when you think of a good comeback after the event?

Oh yeah? Well, the jerk store called, and they're all outta YOU!!

Mrs Brady Old lady was my fave Viz character! I don't think she's in it any more. Finbar Saunders and his Double Entendres was funny aswell. And Letterbocks . And Fat Slags. Billy The Fish was shit, as was Roger Mellie.

I liked the celebrity cunt hunt, very enjoyabe. The local P/O here in Tunstall is pretty good, althogh theres one old bitch behind the counter who really is miserable. I once stepped over to her window without being called and she went ape, shouting at me to get back as she "was counting money" It was quite humiliating, actually. Miserable old bitch.
