Picked up some wheel trims .

Didn't factor in how stupid they'd look...

The problem is, they don't really have a lip that extends out to the full 13 inch rim. So they're effectively 12 inch that fit on 13 inch wheels.

10 internet points to anyone who correctly identifies what they are from...

The trims give the illusion that you've got a half-metre high sidewall on the tyres 😅. Very 1920s.

What about painting the steels a graphite shade?

Fucksake.

Even gave them my reg number!

Anyone know a better way of getting old car parts cheap other than eBay?

I keep getting Carina E parts sent as J reg was on the changeover!

Black steels are for winnarz.

Although being able to say you've 'upgraded' your car with parts from a Romahome is quite a boast.

I know no-one's asked but that Carina is my favourite car you've had on here @DoctorRetro, what a save, very much a car of my childhood.

Autodoc and I would search out for a parts catalog and order off the parts number.

I've problems with the Audi 100. No reg checker can tell if it's a 2.2, 2.3 or a 2.2e. I just use the VW parts number now. And there seems to have been a slight revision in 1988 too to confuse things.

A100 went from raised door handles to flush door handles. It was a easy way to ask customers if there was a choice of parts to identify the model.

Perhaps there is something for the Toyota

And a nut on the end of the driveshaft to a bolt.

I sourced Cap/4 moulded leads (no Coil)....

N.O.S. 'last one on shelf'..... About £5

And a rotorarm (crosschecked back to Toyyo Cat PNo) .... £notmuch

Oooof ;)

What do you do when you can't find the parts you need? Sort the cosmetics of course.

Wheels are the Clio RSi ones I got from @rob88h , rubbed down and blasted over with Skoda Brilliant Silver, shod in the local part worn specialist's finest 185 / 55 R14s. Firestones on the front for many grips.

The lower profile keeps the rolling radius about the same.

They're very similar to the 13s that were available on this model anyway (See @DodgyBastard 's one)

Being as my ex is being an absolute c***, and trying to reduce my contact with littlun back down to the minimum (it was up to almost 50/50), I'm going to have to go back to court.

This means I'm going to need a serious fleet reduction to assist in raising funds.

But what to sell?

Can you get away with just the metro? After all as you've said in posts thats the one you like the most

I'd say sell the Carina and Polo and keep the Metro. After all, the Carina is most valuable/easy to sell.

I would say get the Carina BOG STOCK (take the sticker off it, polish and clean it, standard wheels) and then sell it for £profit.

Keep the Carina.

It's reliable and won't drop in value. It's also practical and will do runs with kids and to the shops easy.

Sorry but when I hear about stories like this it just boils my water. :( Good luck with the court proceedings. It's ultimately the children who suffer.

So long as the Carina ii is behaving itself it's the one I'd keep. I've seen the Polo up for sale on FB, it could also appeal to someone looking for a van. The metro will appeal to someone looking for a quirky car. 🙂

I think the missing wheel trim would probably work against that plan.

The current alloys are so similar to what it could have been specified with originally, I think they'd be a better bet.

Fair enough, but that will put off any collectors.

Also, imagine the cunts you'll have to deal with selling the Metro...

In more positive news, got the plugs, dizzi cap and rotor arm done on the Carina with the correct parts, by going to a local motor factor - expensive though!

They couldn't find any leads, but luckily I found some on eBay, so will be all sorted soon.

Good luck deciding and selling, I hope you manage to fight your corner.

Any of these ‘originality’ freaks will be a pain to deal with anyway. Unless it’s still got the factory plastic seat covers on they’ll be bitching about it. I’d keep the Renault wheels on with good tyres, you want something reliable that’s not going to land you in the shit, that’s the Toyota, I mean let’s face it for the £6-700 you get for it you won’t find anything any better to replace it with. It’s probably worth more to you than some idiot with the 1993 CAP guide in his hand is going to give you.

Oh god the old originality "experts".

I was one selling a 924 for a grand with 10 months mot. Overall it wasn't a bad car, certainly scrubbed up well for a car that was probably 24 years old then.

Had a few timewasters/chancers (this was back in the free ad days) but one guy phoned up and seemed really interested, well spoken, claimed to be a porsche mechanic and so on.

After an hours worth of grilling over the phone, he asked me what sunroof it had. It looked like a britax conversion thing to me but it didn't leak and worked fine.... He starts to wobble a bit......,shit I'm losing the catch here. I play my trump card quick "listen mate you sound like an enthusiast and I would love to see it go to a good home. I'd let you have it as is for £850 cash, near enough half the price for any other one in the free ads for sale, what do you say?".

He replies " OK, have you got the bag the glass from the sunroof goes in? "

" I don't mate sorry, but I reckon I've got every receipt for any work it's had done over 24 years!!!".

" hmm  I think I'll pass it you haven't got that cover, cheers ".
