Pretty much. The MK3 Cavalier in particular was light years ahead of the MK2 Sierra. The Cavalier was also available as a saloon from the word go.

That was the main problem ( the bean counters at ford said saloons are dead coupes are dead ) ooops quick start selling the escort saloon ( Orion) We've slated for  abroad until we get the Facelift sierra with saloon on board.

Were any of the fawn/brown/autumn gold colours a cost option, or was there a wide range of no-cost solid(s) colours for customers to enjoy?

No Dave in accounts said his brother in law at ICI could get a big discount on a cancelled order or "tan"  paint if they were quick.

SCANIA 111 1979 4x2 TRACTOR UNIT LHD - UK REGISTERED RUNS AND DRIVES BARN STORED - Picture 1 of 7

SCANIA 111 1979 4x2 TRACTOR UNIT LHD - UK REGISTERED RUNS AND DRIVES BARN STORED | eBay UK

It's already got the sun visor, it's just missing the light up Scania sign in the back of the cab and some wanky stickers.

Ambitious pricing, I agree. This guy has a YouTube channel and the collection caper of this was not without issue but was entertaining.

Recently in Ibiza, and saw a Peugeot “Jumpy”….. presumably they also did “Slightly nervous” and “ Positively hysterical “ variants?

Did they do a "Morbidly skittish" version as well?

I think that's Sandglow, a long running colour extending to Allegros too.

This doesn't look bad for £3500 with a years MOT. Looks like whoever bought it was reaching from the 5 series as it's quite base spec.

Look at the size of that steering wheel, it wouldn't be out of place on a cruise ship.

Have you seen the size of the steering wheel on modern ships?. Some are absolutely tiny.

Ideal for the ‘Withnail and I’ obsessive who wants the look but without the actual life threatening danger of driving a completely rotted out Jaguar up the M6 at 85mph.

‘I’m making time’.

Pair it with a black Morris J4 to enjoy  the full psychotic traffic officer ‘Get in the back of the van!’ experience.

Taunus 1.3 with terrible paint

Yes, the paint does have quite a bit of sun damage, and the price is a bit salty, but think of all the rust and filler you don’t have to pick out of it.

I’d much rather get some paintwork done than have to recreate chassis rails from scratch!

My maths teacher had one of these, I spotted it again about 10 years ago, I wonder if it still lives?

@Weird Car, DVLA tax check says this is (free) taxed until May next year, so is still with us.

It’s now black, perhaps a shame given I quite like the (fawn?) colour above, but at least it’s still on the road!

Tasteless mods but on the plus side the bodywork does look to be very well done and most of the twattier bits look easily removable.

Wheels do need to go in the sea though.

But the LHD puts the average buyer right off & rhd conversion requires complete swap of upper bulkhead dash not a weekend job for the amateur.

Given it’s a 1.3 I’d be unlikely to doing much overtaking in it anyway!

A car like this wouldn’t be a daily for me so I’d just leave it lhd.

Wouldn't bother me had plenty of LHD cars, but it puts average buyer off there are still plenty of cortinas about so every Taunus I've seen for sale over here struggles to sell even for price of a rhd project.

I've contemplated importing a 2dr "S" or ghia  many times as we never got more than base/L  spec or a good shell & building a replica of the works Mk5 rally car, but as said this would be a keeper  so for ease of regular use I'd  convert to rhd.

Back in the early 90's I had a silver 1.6 2dr Taunus  festival ( sorta carousel equivalent) for a few months. Got some photos somewhere.

And one of these - not sure that the shape has aged too well?  I've not seen one in the wild in years. Needs MOT and a few bits of trim but at £795 WCPGW
(and it is Derby so no beginning with 'B')

My Father in law traded in a T reg Rover TomCat VVC for a brand new one of these (this exact colour and spec) I remember the disappointment he had with the astras lack of performance and the constant trying to justify his decision saying stuff like “well I think it is time for me to slow down” and “I’ve had enough of fast cars anyway”

My uncle had a 1.3 Cortina from new. Four up, with some luggage in the boot, it felt like it was on a par with a split screen Minor - especially on hills. I'd really hate to try and use one these days as anything other than an occasional hack.
