Except perhaps reliability?

I disappeared down a particularly enthusiastic slagging match on Pistonheads about these cars and it’s not really a hot hatch so shouldn’t be judged as such.  It’s a slightly savoury Corolla that goes faster past 6000 revs.

That doesn’t make it a bad car

I have always had a thing for these, but the 4 speed holds me back, and of course I would like a well specced one, It did only come with a 4 speed didn't it (I don't do Autos)

Few, I was looking at one which had some frames that looked really brown and crusty, but the wheels didn't look like that so its fine*

Barn find without the barn. I get moss growing on my cars occasionally but bracken easily trumps that.

Rust is a problem on rwd Escorts but this one must be OK, the strut turrets look fine!

In so many ways, that's lovely!  I won't be buying it though.

1: I've got no money.  Big hitch.

2: It's described as "a CF, not a CF2" when a CF2 is precisely what it is.  Which makes it too young for me anyway.  Plastic front.

3: It runs "from a can... two good spare fuel tanks included."  Alarm bell.  How much more work would I be buying before it can be used on the road?

4: Looks lovely in red, doesn't it?  But that paint is somewhat younger than the metal under it.  Inside the box and under the hood it was a white van.  Why is it now red?  What's hiding?

But at least it has the right engine, the 2.3 petrol slant.  And the frame around the back doors looks a whole lot better on this 40-year-old van than on my 11-year-old original.

It is from a dealer , this is good news. The exporting side is easy from a dealer, especially if you are trailering it away.

Let me know if you want to contact them, I could try asking some question for you.

 I went to see a lightly rear ended one a few years ago but after driving 70 miles to see it couldn't be started or got out, it was blocked in. Seller said if I was serious he'd get a battery put on it later. Hmm, you think I drove 70 miles to waste your time? Don't bother.   Anyway, 99% this is same seller so tread carefully, interesting description of good condition. If the outer arches are bubbling the inners have long since  crumbled.  £260 with 7H to go as I write.

Manual gearboxes are all 4 speed. Don’t let only the just 4 speeds alone put you off. They don’t have enough power to feel like they need another gear on the motorway and the engines are quite flexible enough to cope with the gaps between ratios. The change is a bit slow however, partly because of the heavy geartrain between the clutch and the gearbox.

A good one is a very comfy way of getting gently about so works better as an automatic imho.

Messaged the guy, it's probably already spoken for but one can hope. Would be super handy as a parts donor for the S8 should I need the bumpers and a few other bits.

There doesn't happen to be anyone here who could get there near Peterborough today?
