On the road and a great rolling restoration - starts, drives and stops (just) it needs a brake master cylinder - I have one I just have no time to fix it.

These are coachbuilt - bodied by Park Ward at this time - on a separate chassis. Aluminium skin over a wood and metal frame. Consequently difficult to restore.

Most parts are for sale through Red Triangle - at a cost - expensive to put one of these cars right hence, I'd guess the price.

Another Alvis for sale - similar colour but without an engine and more 💰

If you don't fancy getting your fingernails grubby - just buy a new one:

Approx £300,000 - but I'll guess to properly restore either of the cars above would be £100,000+.

I think that's a "100 Club" special edition, given as prizes to top performing dealers.  They all have 2200 engines.

The car in the advert is an 1800, in fact strictly speaking it's not a Princess because it was registered in April 1975 when there were still separate Austin and Morris versions, this one being an Austin.

The seats suggest it's a HL.

@vulgalour I don't think HBE345N appears in the Wedgister.

That's a new one to me.  The vinyl seats suggest it's an L rather than an HL, which is much rarer.  HL got the cropped nylon that goes saggy, while HLS got the bulletproof velour.

On these early Austin badged cars, there was only base and HL, both with vinyl trim. The rear armrest and patterned panels match the HL.

Similar continued on the early Princesses.

I always forget the early 18-22 cars had a slightly different approach to trim levels than the later facelift Princess 2 cars.  There's the complication of BL allowing the customer a lot of flexibility on trim options, so you sometimes get weird things like totally base cars without even a radio that also have fishbowl headlights, power steering, and a vinyl roof that are usually associated with higher trims.  It's all very confusing.

Some of this I think was down to supply problems? The parts situation was so hit-and-miss on the production line. There were a lot of auto Princess made because they ran out of manual gearboxes for example.

Parts picking for all these variables must have made things very difficult.

In the good old days Longbridge had no trim levels and usually about for colours 😅
