It’s a clarion, says right in the front of it 😁

In the late 70’s they were the only company to offer car audio separates systems.  Did well off it. They were never seen as good as pioneer or alpine back in the 70’s & 80’s and early 90’s, but a  good clarion mid level set up was just as good as the others mentioned for less  money usually. Before PSA got it together to brand the stereo systems with their own names, a lot of factory fit (and also dealer  fit options) we’re clarion branded stuff.

So it does!😂 I completely missed that. Had a Clarion in my Mk5 Cortina, back in the day,  with Audioline graphic equaliser, until the whole centre console was ripped out by a thieving scrote, after busting the door lock. It sounded great, up to them.

50's austerity motoring at it simplist. No opening boot lid - luggage is loaded via the folding rear seat - though this one has the decadent luxury of winding windows and twin windscreen wipers - earlier ones didn’t.

Always overshadowed by the Austin A30/5 and Morris Minor.

I think I prefer the early ones with less chrome! They did their best to keep the 8 as simple and affordable as possible.

No opening boot lid

That’s wild.

Even so looks smashing valu to me for dependable-ish ‘50s motoring. Would.

I checked the Doovla to try and see how long it's been off the road but oddly it doesn't say and also states it hasn't had it's MOT yet which is weird. @LightBulbFun Any idea what's going on here?

SORN's been a thing since 1998, and any vehicle thats not had an MOT since computerised DVSA records began in 2005, will display a "this vehicle hasn't had its first MOT" message, for example:

so it all checks out on the Scorpio as far as I am concerned :)

There was also a '10' - slightly more powerful in the same body - with opening boot this time.

Surprisingly - in the US export market the car was badged as the 'Triumph 10' and in Scandinavia sold as the 'Standard Vanguard Junior' - trading on more well know badges. In Australia the 10 was known as a 'Cadet'.

No 'hot' version was ever produced - British manufacturers didn't seem to do that then.

A tail-finned and slightly fussy version of the 10, the Standard Pennant was produced 1957-61. Superceded by the Herald.

Standard-Triumph was bought by Leyland Motors in 1960  - and the historic Standard named dropped in 1963 in the UK. Cars were assembled in India under the brand until 1988.

@Wibble that link works, and yeah that looks really nice.

Good to know, thanks! It does look nice and not a ridiculous price, in the grand scheme of things these days

Those boot badges make everything forgivable though.

Yep, makes it a good start for a thirty grand restoration.

Peak post-war austerity. Amazing to think what the Yanks were running around in at the same time.

For reference some rough prices for 1952/53.

Ford Popular - £390

Standard 8 - £480

Ford Anglia - £510

Austin A30 - £550

Morris Minor - £630

Vauxhall Wyvern - £770

Don’t know why I can’t get eBay links to work anymore, wasn’t a problem before.
Anyway, this looks pretty honest and a model I enjoyed when new. Great to see it still wearing its original wheel trims.

Kinda taken by this Sierra. I was never into them, but it fits my requirements (old, simple, not fooked) and in todays climate doesn't strike me as overpriced.

Ford started the sporty saloon version with the mk1 cortina GT, there never was an Anglia GT. Vexhils first in house was I think the FB vx4/90 ( the viva sl90 was trim & brakes).
