Another one of those cars where manufacturers were looking at each others designs - this is the Morris Major which was meant to be the Minor's replacement - it did not happen except in Australia - we got the Wolseley/Riley versions.

And a resemblance to the Fiat 1100 too.

The Lancia is pillarless with 'clap-hands' doors tho.

Named after the Roman Via Appia - sounds more romantic than the Morris South Circular.

I had one in 2005-7 (P679EAL). The 2 ltr V6 automatic was the most refined unit I've ever experienced. Unfortunately it was also the only car I've owned that needed recovery three times and could not be satisfactorily fixed by a Japanese car specialist or a Nissan main dealer (x2). Suspension was not too clever on anything except good surfaces. I'd consider one again but routine spares were difficult to source even when I owned one.

So it's French* badged cousin does tempt me as well. I know the range new was "about 90 miles", so no idea how much it'll have lost over the last 12 years, even with just 22k miles. Granted, Even with 50 miles range it's enough for me to nip to my local Tesco and back a few times, and slap it on charge there every few trips. Of course, the idea is good, but unless I street parked it or the Civic the idea is pointless as I'd have to swap the cars about in the drive all the time. Shame.

Also £3250, maybe the 125 would be a better idea.

What a great car. Herbert Austin's masterpiece and one of the best cars of the 30's.

Here is the spec. Out of my original John Player cigarette card album.

Ad is slightly confusing - it's an Austin 7 not an 'A7'. The 'A' bit only came in for the Post-War cars etc. The body style is Ruby.

Engine and box are out ('for checking') but easily rectified - these are so straightforward. A really super thing. Huge club following. That doesn't seem expensive for something that's not a box of bits.

Guaranteed to bring a smile to even the most jaded motoring fan.
