Question:

What was the first production car to come with Alloy wheels?

1930s Bugattis? The cast wheels on those actually formed the brake drum IIRC. T35 is the most famous of that era.

If the Alto had a weak radiator, the Headgasket if it has failed assuming the combustion chamber gasses were blowing into the waterways, would pressurise the cooling system, and the radiator would be the weak spot where it had to release the pressure

Does anyone know anything about lathes?

I picked this old Myford up at a garage clearance a few years back, I think I gave a tenner for it. As you can see, it's missing its motor and chuck, probably other bits as well as I don't know too much about them.

Anyway a guy on another forum was asking if anyone had a small lathe for sale, I told him I had and now two people are interested. Trouble is, I have no idea what to ask for it. They make silly money on Ebay, but you'd have to be pretty dedicated to get this one working again. It's about 3 1/2' long, and I wouldn't have thought it's any more than about 30 years old.

Has anyone got any suggestions of how much I should ask for it?

£150 would be a fair price for it, I paid a lot more for my old one.....

^ on the other hand, I just bought one like that (but with a motor and chuck) for £50.

If you press the "Insert" button near at the top right of the keyboard it toggles between inserting and overwriting. Normally the default is insert, but some web pages seem to default to overwrite.

Thankyou!

Can you overdo lead replacement stuff in fuel?

I filled up the Lancia with V-power and put in some lead substitute that came with the car. I have now found out that these engines apparently run much better with Millers VSPe Plus in them. The car runs ok, so should I wait until the next tankful before adding some of this Millers stuff or would it be ok to add now to a tank of fuel that all ready has some lead substitute in it?

Where can you get details of how much an old car cost new? Is there a website for such things? It would be interesting to know how much my cars cost. Well it probably wouldn't be interesting but hell, it will pass the time finding out.

Phone a dealer or the importer.

When I bought my 1987 Porsche back in 1994 - £7k, I phoned Porsche GB who sent me an 87 price list.

£24k with £12ks worth of extras!

My house wasn't worth 36 thousand back in 87

Is there anyway to do a temp fix on an HT lead? On the TR7 one of the leads on distributor cap side is totally knackered and there's no terminal in there at all. The result is it's not that easy to start and sounds like a drunk hippo falling down the stairs when it's running. If I was to say wedge a bit of mig wire up the cable then into a spring formation to go into the cap would that give me a spark?

I've got the new owner coming to get it on Sunday and could do to have it running alright but haven't got time/don't want to spend the money on new leads.

Worked for me on a KH250. I've used lockwire in the past with acceptable results too, twixt the cdi unit and the plug on a Honda MT5.

Sorry about this but please could someone explain (or refer me back to the original post that explains) the "D701 SWL" joke. I must have missed it at the time and now just feel like a bit of a retard when everyone else is LOLZing about it.

Cheers much!

Was only thinking about this morning:

From memory someone on here mentioned that that was their dad's Landrover who'd had it from new , sold it and AS member wanted it back.

Shortly afterwards another (new, I think) AS member asked the same question and said his dad had bought it new.

What the heck is a “Deep-skirt square engine

I saw the phrase here-http://www.flickr.com/photos/triggerscarstuff/7686791270/in/set-72157617358950404

Deep Skirt is a kind of deeper casting used on engine blocks, square means that your cylinder bore = stroke :)

Use what you've got in the tank, then use a tank full of unleaded with no additive, THEN switch to the Millers stuff

Just wondering what people thought of this?, I've seen it posted a few times today on Facebook, Personally I think the wheels look awful but then what do i know!

Poor old Volvo. That looks dreadful. Another perfectly serviceable car fucked up for "scene-ness"

Thanks, willwitchengeg :-) Excuse my spelling, I’m on my fifth drink.

Is that Volvo even drivable? I dread to think what the turning circle is like, a V70 on 18â€Âers is bad enough.

Volvo looks ridiculous, Mx5 looks like it belongs to a 12 year old boy.

I think he's making up for something "missing" in his life..... A penis perhaps?

if the wheels stuck out about 3" less it would be a lot more agreeable, but TBH I'm in no position to comment

Even my Mum is unimpressed, she says it looks like the result of a 9 year old who got stickers for their birthday going on a rampage.

Are Rover K series engines interference design? I started up my 45 1.6 from cold this morning and the belt snapped as soon as it fired. If there's definitely going to be damage I won't bother with it.
