Assuming you're replacing the CV boot, cable ties should be fine as long as you tighten them right up - as long as the boot is secure and nothing is fouling or flapping about, it doesn't matter what you use to hold them in place.

If its steel you would need to braze it. Personally, I would measure the diameter, cut it and fit a straight join compression fitting.

It's a two feet length that goes from the tank to the lift pump on the DB9, so I'll just make up a new one. I need to buy some olives.

Cheers DodgeRover and Wuvvum. I'll be changing the boot. Was just unsure as to whether cable ties would be acceptable as I had a quick google and came up with a plethora of conflicting answers.

Thanks again

The steering arm on the trike has a track rod end at top and bottom to link handlebars to the steering arm and arm to the wheel a frame. Sadly they are worn and no one knows what they are from. Is there any way of looking up parts online? The track rod ends are straight but unsure of thread. I know if I go into a motor factors with one they will look at me like I've three heads

Thinks, DB9 and diesel then looks and it is drum so that explains that then!

If I could afford a DB9 I think I could just about stretch to a new 2ft length of pipe and a few fittings .... or gaffa tape

Better off buying seed!

OK, this brake pipe union thing is starting to bug me now.  A standard (M10?) union is slightly too small - it'll slide in and out of the cylinder with the threads just catching but not enough to bite.  Problem is I can't find anything online which is slightly bigger than an M10 - there are M12 unions but they are for 1/4" pipe, where the Pug is 3/16" (it must be as it fits through an M10 union).

Am I missing something, or have I just managed to buy some weird unobtainium wheel cylinder?

I might have accidentally abbreviated DB996...post-5582-0-98245000-1526867222_thumb.jpg

Possibly (and this is a big possibly) might need a hand storing something quite far up north for a short while if I purchase it. No MOT but cheap.

I'm talking round Durham way. any help appreciated.

I'm just north of Durham. What is it and for how long?

A small Italian car, currently located in Langley Park.  I can't help, otherwise I would, obviously.

I think it's 'off' anyway.

Any Londoners got experience of trying to pay congestion charge for a car that’s recently had a plate change?

It seems the TfL website doesn’t recognise my Porsche’s registration number so automatically assumes it needs to pay the T-Charge which is an extra £10 a day!

Meh, seems it’s EU3 anyway so it probably IS subject to the T Charge although if I check the old plate it shows compliant....

Anyone had any success buying exhausts from eBay? Local factors want in the region of 150 for middle and rear silencers. eBay have one for about £90 including rubbers and gaskets. Reckon it would last a year or two?

Or am I being wildly optimistic?

Not planning on keeping the car for ever.

I got the C4's new cat from eBay - 62 quid all in, fitted well enough and got it through the MOT fine.

Does anyone know the load bay dimensions of a Berlingo multispace with the rear seats removed?

Trying to figure out if I could fit my LML star in there without too much hassle

Thankfully I have no cat in my life (any more!) but I did research into generic cat for my Savvy.

I got the impression it has to have the 'correct pno/manufacturer ref' for MOT - and they do check!

So you can't whack anything on 'off a 1.3 whatever, but it fits!' ?

does anyone know if there is a method of getting a radio code for a vectra (vdo cdr 500) that doesn't cost the earth?

After trying to separate my exhaust from the Mitsi Sigma at Shitefest the other year and searching UK motor factors and exhaust retailers/wholesalers for about 9 months and getting through countless amounts of tin cans and jubilee clips to hold it together , I think there was 5 on there in the end, I went on ebay.de and ordered downpipe back complete system from Poland for £74 , delivered by Parcelforce , it turned up within 36 hours and fitted fine . Just as well because it was over 180cm long ,60cm wide and 45cm high and Parcelforce wanted over £70 to return it !!! So far so good , venturing under the car to extract more of Mr 6cyls field from the chassis rails at the weekend and to double check the exhaust

We got some genuine vw roof bars for the passat - used off ebay. However there is no key - so they are useless. I have managed to remove one of the locks - could a locksmith cut a key from this?

Posted

I see no reason why not.  As long as its not too worn and readable, it should be fairly trivial.  I don't know the specifications on the locks but they're not going to be 7-tumbler, active beasts.  You could probably just try raking it, to be honest...

Posted

Are they a standard slot-type lock or does it look like a cylindrical key?

I don't think they'd present much of a challenge to a half-competent locksmith.  When you know how and have practiced, it's very easy to pick most locks.  I haven't practiced enough, sadly.

Posted

if the locks can be got out like the first one a new set of locks would prolly be cheaper than getting keys cut

Posted

If they're like the lock barrels on a ZX (wafer tumbler type, I think) you could just take all the tumblers out and then any blank key would turn it. Making a key to match the lock is entirely possible, but likely too costly to be viable if done by a locksmith, and immensely time consuming if done by an amateur. Ask me how I know.
