Who is Station’s avatar? She’s gorgeous!

Quick bit of Google-fu says she's Sandara Park, a Korean pop singer.

Definitely would. :P

“Google-fu†

Really? She didn’t look Korean in the avatar picture [insert missile pun here]. Kudos for finding out to you, but I don’t fancy her so much in that picture you know.

More Riva woes:

After spending quite a pretty penny on my Riva, i got it running 100% BUT

She now decides to randomly cut out, i have checked everything and can't seem to find the problem.

You could be driving along for hours, and no problem, or minutes and it will cut out - as if the ignition is turned off, as the car does not splutter or cough, just simply cuts out.

What do we think it could be guys & girls ?

I have tried / changed the following:

Ignition (i thought the contacts inside were failing, so changed the whole lot)

Main relay (The one behind the dash, again for reasons above)

All earth leads & fitted more

Condensor - just incase the "new" one was duff.

Coil - As per condensor.

I really like this car, just don't wan't it to become a nightmare, nor do i want to go down the route of fitting a modern engine - Well not just yet anyway, as it takes the car "Out of action" for a wee few weeks.

Someone has mentioned carb icing / Fuel evaporation, but i don't think it is either, as simply backing out of drive made it cut-out once, but ran fine for the rest of the day....

Did you check the earth point behind instruments? Same one the relay mounts to.

Other one to check is the earth under the coil mounting.

And the main engine to body one? Sorry if it's like sucking eggs...

Failing that I'll did the workshop bulletins out..

Ps, is it a cat fitted one? Lada wolly hat on..

Peugeot 206 had the head gasket done last November and after clocking up another 1000 miles is drinking water again. My stupid question is: What are the chances of getting the garage to do the job again properly?

..I've five years worth of old Practical Classics that I really want rid of TBH but I'm reluctant to pulp them, do shiters have any other suggestions?

So I'm looking at a few adverts and I'm wondering about those for cars that have had larger engines put in place but are advertised as "Still puny engine on logbook" presumably for all the inherent advantages of being able to tax and insure at the lower rate. Am I missing something or is this pretty small beer as the next time you NCT or MOT the fecker you are going to enter stormy waters and not be able to do so until you change the logbook? (forgetting the fact that you could be royally boned if ever involved in an accident).

Is that the case? Or is there some way you could palm off your bullshit logbook and pocket the difference? Surely this is just a case of enjoy it while it lasts until you have to put it through the test?

The way I see it is this.... it's a 1.2 Corsa with a Redtop in it. But the documents say it's got an X12XE in it. Therefore it's worth the same as a 1.2 Corsa, not a modified one. You would have to register it correctly, and then armed with the new information, go and trudge round a load of Opera Singers and fucking Meerkats before they asked for Engineers Reports. If that's your bag, go for it, but it's best to buy one with the paper trail intact. You never know if it has a stolen engine fitted, that as soon as Doovla see the number you get the Bizzies with a Hi-ab popping over to remove your car...... I would avoid owt that's declared as "Still an 848 on the Log Book, but the 2 litre Fiat Twin cam makes it go like fuck" Actually, in the case of the latter, I would. Modern conversions, with incorrect info, walk away.

I don't get it really, if you want whatever engine size it is, why not be straight about it and buy something kosher? Alternatively if you DON'T want to be straight about it surely your ability to transcend the law (ignoring accidents or spot-checks) is fairly short-term and then you've got a pretty suss car on your hands?

For MOT purposes, then it doesn't matter what is under the bonnet. As long as it is identifiable, cleanish, running, to power ancillaries and get an emissions test, get suck on the servo, and I can get in it..... All I need is a chassis number and registrstion number, and for those to match a DVLA record. If the record statesd "Land Rover 1974, Blue" and it's blatantly a Tdi 90, then I make "numerical style" notes and decline to test. Also, I might alert my Area Office if I am of the impression something larger is amiss.

Where are you mate? I'm sure one of us will come and take them off your hands if you don't want lots of money for them/ live at the north pole etc

If I replaced my steelies with alloys from a higher-spec Xantia, would that count as 'modifying' in insurance terms? Presumably if they could have been an option when new, it would be OK?

Also, supposing I wanted to use Citroen alloys from a totally different model (or even a different period), as long as they were badged/branded would the insurers even notice?

There's absolutely no point in putting it on a 'mod' policy, but the wheels are the one thing I wouldn't mind changing. That, and yellow headlights :lol:

Yep, it is classified as a modification. Although you could probably get away with it by claiming that they were already fitted whe you bought the car, and you didn't know they weren't original equipment.

It's an ancient car that's likely had 42397423974 previous owners. As long as you replace them with a bona fide Citroen item, nobody is ever going to notice and, if they do after a claim, I am sure you would be 100% honest with them about it. 8)

I has a car on SORN, but kept the tasc disc (expires end of July I think) as I thought it'd be only off the road for a couple of months and therefore wanted to avoid the hassle of cashing it in and getting a new one later.

What do I have to do to get the car back on the road? Buy a new tax disc or is there any way I can use the existing one that's still in the window as it still has some value?

Will, check with the online status thingy, also if it's the Justy, I'll be in touch during the week about picking it up etc.....

aargh..I forgot about them again, Sorry Tayne, would couriering them be an option?

It's a V6 and very cheap at the moment.

I recon a HG on a v6 one of those would be an engine out job billy the motor is seriously packed and i think the rear bank is right under the bulk head. I guess if it's the front bank you might be able to do it in the car but I think it'll be a right 'mare. You can get non borked one's for buttons so it might not be worth doing.

Thanks, Glenn. We do have an engine hoist now but if it's going to be a major league PITA then probably best to give it a swerve. Cheers!

I know someone (whos handy with the spanners) with a kv6 75 and it took him about a day to change the alternator on one as everything's so squished in.

Peugeot 206 with 1.4 petrol engine: Does the cooling system have to be bled? Taking it in today for an argument with the people who did the head gasket and it would help if it seemed as though I knew what I was talking about. :)

Posted

I'd suggest it would need it and if you look on the pipes you'll probably see bleed points in three or four places.

I only sais 'suggest' as my 306 and the 106 my son had both needed bleeding.

Posted

I'm too lazy to bleed cooling systems properly, I leave the radiator or expansion tank cap open with the engine running, that seems to work fine.

Posted

I've left it with them. Let them solve the mystery of the disappearing coolant. I suggested that they dob some Kseal in it but they seemed to think that was a last resort.

Is it me or has the standard of driving during rush hour deteriorated since the end of the Easter school holidays? :(

Don't bother.

I had a 205 XS (13inch steelies as standard) which I had a massive crash in, involving 5 cars. The blame was put on me in the end and nobody was bothered I hadn't claimed the 15 inch alloys as a modification. Don't tell them, your premium will only go up!

If its the same XU block as in the 205s it probably will. Guessing by the nose down shape of the 206 the radiator and expansion tank are likely to be below the heater matrix IMHO, so it wil need bleeding.

Google to check!

DVLA. How long does it take to update a new photo onto my licence and is there a way to express the service?
