LC Torana Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Check tightness of fan belt. Sounds like it's too loose.

Minimad5 Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Dvla related motorcycle question: Trying to get insurance on my motorbike that is a uncommon import, unfortunatly the on the V5 model is 'other' , so when registration is given to the person over the phone much confusion occours ! The Moog Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 What's a good way to clean stains from car seats without wash VAC? Do steam cleaners work?
willswitchengage Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 What's a good way to clean stains from car seats without wash VAC? Do steam cleaners work? You have to say where the stains came from first because this could be one of many highly amusing possibilities
The Moog Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 They are of unknown origin and I wouldn't like to guess
Tamworthbay Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 There is a thread on here about a good cleaner in a can someone got from Halfords but is cheaper at asdas
skattrd Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 How difficult would it be for Dvla to change the model on the V5, and what supporting evidence would i require to give ? Thanks A friend got them to change the model on his v5 over the phone, said it was quite easy .... This was a Daihatsu registered as model "Unkown" he got it changed to Mira. Then for shits and giggles had them change it to Cuore a few months later. Never was paperwork asked for ... Ring them up, whats the worst that can happen?
wuvvum Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I changed the Innocenti over as it got registered as a Daihatsu when it came into the country for some reason. I just sent off the logbook with the corrected details filled in and a couple of photos of the car, and the new V5C came back within a few weeks.
spike60 Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 We bought a cheap BMW estate earlier in the year and the fabric seats had some waxy shit on all of them, they looked like they were made from Barbour jacket material. £35 at the local Eastern European Valeting Servicing Ltd was money well spent, it came back immaculate inside and out. We didn't know what it was or how to remove it, it looked like an unpleasant bio-hazard in a family car.
D Spares & Tyres Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 New autoshite bicycle? The car that is, not the glamour model I going to put some more pics of this up in dodgytoms shite thread
vulgalour Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 A little Suzuki Alto blezzed past me earlier today, I've finally given up trying to figure out what I really saw. It was red with black bumpers and looked exactly like this from the back. From the front it didn't look like any Alto I can find a picture of, not even a Maruti Alto. It had headlights that were a bit like Peugeot 307 ones in shape and a chunky bodycoloured grille between with an undersized point-down triangle shaped black grille. It's bugging me that I can't figure out what I saw and because I was driving I couldn't get a picture of it. It also didn't look modified, it had an air of something like a Chery about it, you know that cheap Chinese knock-off vibe they've got, so I'm thinking it might have been something like that.
cort16 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 This Audi A2 we've got has the original Audi cassette player in it. Would any single DIN Audi CD player swap out like for like? I'd rather put another Audi on in rather than a Heiokio 40 quid flashy light box one from ebay.
dave21478 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Gotta be carefull with the stereos in modern stuff. Dunno about Audi specifically but a few cars use the stereo controls to change various menu setting etc. Swapping might not work or might need the new unit coded to the cars brains.

I just did some googling and the coding on the radio makes it seem a right pain in the arse unless you get the no from Audi. Most of the ones for sale on ebay don't have a code and the ones that do = the price of a good third party stereo with blue tooth etc.
Bobthebeard Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I've just bought my old Perodua back. It's had all the weldage done, but the alternator now isn't charging the battery and I almost ran out of electricity on the 12-mile drive home last night. It's never given any problems with the charging before. I've checked all the fuses and for any loose wires, I've even run a jump lead directly from the alternator terminal to the battery to eliminate dodgy wiring as a possiblity - nowt. The weird thing is though the battery light goes out as soon as the engine starts - but a multimeter confirms the battery voltage as 12.43v, rising to 12.55 at high revs - but 12.81 with the engine off. Two questions: 1. is there anything else other than a fecked alternator which could be causing the lack of charging on a vehicle as simple as a Kenari? And 2. if the alternator is fecked, how come the battery light isn't staying on?Shouldn't the alternator be charging at something like 13 to 14 volts? Needs to be above 12 volts to charge the battery.
spike60 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Charging is usually around 14.4 volts IIRC, perhaps a little less at idle especially with high comsumers like a heated rear screen on.

vulgalour Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Perodua Nippa or Daewoo Tico? I might have seen a Kelisa. But with a different grille. It looked very much like that, but with a bodycoloured grille with really chunky sides and the grille was more this shape. I guess I'll never really know. I wasn't aware of the Perodua Kelisa though, so that's another terrible little car I've learned the existence of.
Station Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I was going to say a Kelisa!Kelisa is a rebadged/regrilled Daihatsu Cuore:
nacho man Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Just serviced our ngr izuzu and they (izuzu dealer) gave me Granville oils as the original equipment fill??????? Didn't bother me in the slightest but the parts bloke was insistent they used them from new. I just agreed and carried on.

Lacquer Peel Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I'm a bit of a fud with electronics. I rescued a fine* battery charger from the dump, it seems to be working but only at 3 amps on a "fast" charge, that seems a bit low, no?The battery isn't completely flat mind.
scaryoldcortina Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 3A sounds about right tbh. Lacquer Peel 1
Bobthebeard Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Have I asked about ACF50 on here before? If not I will. If I have already I won't obviously....
gm Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 on the topic of car batteries, what simple tests can I do to check the condition of mine ? the aldi went flat over a few days when I was away last week. I jump started it and it hasn't let me down since but cranking is sometimes slow. voltage is around 12v with engine off, around 14v when running.
