3VOM Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Clio Mk2 1.2 16v. Won't start. I haven't checked the obvious yet like plugs and fuel but it is consistently doing something funny namely turns over for 2-3 seconds then stops. Short of hotwiring the starter it will do this but not actually attempt to fire up at any stage. I didn't think this was how the immobiliser behaved but I'm willing to learn. The bizarre positive battery terminal isn't helping either, is it needed? Read somewhere that part of it is a large fuse to protect something but that seems to be eccentrically unnecessary and Renault. Anyone have any further info please? Edit: I am wondering if it is that 2nd "timer?" "comfort?" ECU that is playing up.
dave21478 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Halfords tools.... I have a rail of 1/2 inch drive male Torx bits. I think I bought the rail on its own, not as part of a set. Anyway, the T30 didnt respond well to use with an impact gun for some reason, and I dont know if these are "professional" tools or not - ie lifetime guarantee. It just says "Halfords Chrome Vanadium" on it. Any ideas?

Kiltox Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Those look like my advanced torx bits so yes, guaranteed. dave21478 1
Eddie Honda Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 They don't look like Advanced ones. They look like regular (mibbie Pro) Halfords ones from nineteen canteen.
Kiltox Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 They don't sell anything other than advanced 1/2" torx sockets any more I don't think so it'll still be worth a go I reckon

Edit: I am wondering if it is that 2nd "timer?" "comfort?" ECU that is playing up. My goona used to do that when the ECU was just wet enough. Less wet just made things very random, more wet meant it played dead for days. Except for the days it'd run for 2-3secs because it'd rained in Spain or something.... Basicly because renault - burn it.

Guest Hooli Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Looks like the parcel is in the back of a transit. They do it the wrong way up, the same as FB just to make it harder to read.
doobietoo Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Ah now it makes sense pick up a parcel at Southampton 45 miles from my house take it to hatfield and then to Yeovil 25 miles from my house and then deliver it from there.... I guess that is progress.....

daveb47 Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 Not long back someone posted a high quality version of the Autoshite logo, anyone know where it was. Thanks

Fat_Pirate Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 I've got a Pela pump, works lovely but for some reason I cannot get more than a litre or so out of Mrs Pirate's poxy Saab 9-3. It's a 2001 model with the big yellow oil cap with dipstick attached. The sump plug is rounded off and quite likely bonded in (alloy sump), so there's no other way in. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm doing it with the car level, would it be better to jack up the front?
DodgeRover Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 Tube can't be going right down into the oil for some reason, can you tape it to the dipstick to get in it?
jonathan_dyane Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 What is the part number for the tool kit for a Hoover Junior 119?
Dirk Diggler Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 On the eBay threads, how do I embed the photos? I'm not posting links from eBay though; generally donedeal.ie The links soon die as something sells, but the embedded photos live on; flicking back to page 1 of each thread is brilliant Anybody?
stephen01 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Just a quick, and possibly stupid question, I have just placed an order for a wing mirror, and its stated as the RenaultTwingo-RH (Driver Side)- 1993 to 1995, now being a 1994 model the twingo was only ever available as a left hand drive car, its the actual drivers side glass I'm looking for but feel I have purchased the wrong side.

sierraman Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Got EML come up on Focus, in fact it's been on for last 9 months, looked it up and it says it's a difference in the readings from the two 02 sensors, which would suggest a blocked Cat. I've been advised to put a bottle of Cataclean in. Am I wasting £20 here, should I just fit another Cat?

cobblers Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 If the car drives fine then the cat probably isn't blocked, if its a P0420 code then it just means the Cat isn't doing enough. Just ignore it til MOT time, it might even still pass the emissions anyway. Aftermarket cats are generally shit and if you fit a cheapo aftermarket cat now, it might be knackered by the time the MOT comes round.
sierraman Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 I'd hope not! The MOT is next week, done a bit of shopping round and I can get a tin of this cataclean stuff for about a tenner. That's just as well as I can think of few jobs I hate more than changing exhausts. Checked all the usual stuff, swapped a defective bulb and wiper, the brakes are good as are the tyres so all being well. Might zero the warning lamp and give it a thrash up the bypass see if that does some good, the mrs drives it round everywhere in too high a gear at 20mph, probably hasn't done it any favours. Can't complain too much though, had it a year and haven't spent a shilling on it apart from a clutch master cylinder and that was only £15.
AMC Rebel Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Update from vac gauge wars and thanks to all who contributed - I got more vac at idle by adjusting idle mixture in accordance with carb makers instructions - that put me in the green on the guage. Spraying car cleaner all over the inlet manifold made zilch difference. Car still won't start easily without booting the slammer a lot, and runs rough when cold in spite of auto choke working OK, but runs better when warm. Something is still not right - I have bought a cheap electric fuel pump on a tip from another thread - if that doesn't help I am going to put the spare engine in.
daveb47 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 If you run out of fuel in diesel or petrol car,you just put a gallon in from a can & off you go.What happens with electric car????
dave21478 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 You call a breakdown company who send a flatbed to carry it away. I would take a wild guess that since its not a "breakdown" but owner error it wouldnt be covered for free by normal breakdown cover and likely cost a bit for the tow.
