Thread of the year & Spirit of Shite 2018

So coming towards the closing months of 2018 and it is time for TOY18.

We would like you to nominate your favourite threads of the year.

There are two categories

1) Thread of the Year 2018 (TOY) - for threads started after 1/1/18
2) Davenumbers Spirit of Shite (SOS) - for threads started any time

Once all nominations are in, the mods will create a shortlist and the forum can then vote on their favourite TOY.

There will be a prize for the best thread.

So let us know what tickled your jigglepin, greased your kingpins and touched your flux capacitor this year.

I was thinking about this the other day and started making a list.

Except Google Keep isn't loading this second FFS. So I'll put the ones off the top of my head and then fix them later.

- Autoshite does the Mongol Rally

- DW Invacar

- DW and Cats go to Romania

- Bucketer in Bulgaria

Posted

Not sure Bucketeer has been in Bulgaria this year.

Does it need to be last posted to/updated this year or started this year?

I doubt if you can vote for your own content. :-D

Don't worry I can.

My suggestions:

The collection from Romania.

The SiC's welding course on the 1100

I am thinking the Mongolian Rally Charade would be my fave. Unless we can recycle Datsuncogs Samuel Pepys Rover 75 summary

Point of order - my Invacar thread actually began in 2017. Does this thread only include threads started in 2018? I feel it should. Appreciate the nod!

Yes it is for threads started this year.

Where was the link to Dave numbers best bits?

Posted

Dave of many numbers.

Soz but only this can be right this year.

For best other thread then the dacia Romanian adventure or the Scandinavian datsun thread are winners for me

My take, my thoughts, feel free to disagree.

For me, the catswobbler trip to Rumania, SIC's 1100 weldatherlon and Phil A's Chieftain, in that order.

Davenumbers thread.

Dollywelders excellent adventures.

Keep the rules simple - must start 2018 but whatever wins should be joint winner with Dave Numbers Memorial Thread.

Mr Numbers, with the Steamer as a runner up.

Is it conceited to say Caen autojumble for all my contributions, seeing as I didn't start the thread, Frogchod did?

I was going to nominate the 'Low cost big liability' thread (admittedly probs not the fave of hardcore shitters) but when I checked to make sure it was born in 2018 I was surprised to find out it first appeared in March 2017.

Time flies when you're immersed in shit!

It has been suggested two categories should be included

Davenumbers Award - for threads started over year ago but have been updated this year - so therefore low cost liability etc can enter

TOY - new threads started from 1/1/18

the two best things I have read on here this year, are the 'Olde Englishe' story by the wordy dude from Northern Ireland (sorry cant remember his name!!) about popping the head gasket on his Rover 75 in about 1780, and Cavcrafts 'Convoy' song in the eBay thread. Both are totally fantastic comedy gems.

###Edit: 'Datsuncog' is the name i was looking for, and here is the post: http://autoshite.com/topic/31114-ten-glorious-years-of-rbj-nonsense/?p=1436712

Having re-read Samuel Pepys Rover 75 shenanigans, I fear I must vote for it again, thus having two votes and therefore probably disqualifying myself.

Although the funniest thing I read was Dave Numbers tale of ordering expensive gear oil which he promptly ran over in his truck. Many lolz

SiC’s 1100 - from scared to work under a car to completely rebuilding one in 60 seconds. Bravo.

Horsebollox - answering the questions around accommodation, modern life and social acceptance nobody asked.

Both of these threads clearly shilled by sheet metal and welding gas suppliers too :D

Horsebollox and Samuel Pepys are great nominations.
