It doesn't wear off if you like the car enough. The t'5 often struggles to crack 20 mpg. Might be the way I drive it though. It frightens the crap out of me at times.

I just got used to 20mpg from the jeep. I like driving it, so fukit. Then common sense made a brief appearance and I bought a diesel Merc, I still prefer the jeep.

I struggled to get my T5 below 20, I only managed 19mpg once and that was pretty much constantly driving like a hooligan.

Still running my green machine as well. I have managed 24mpg on a run up and down the country. Mostly though it sits around 18/19mpg average.

Would I get rid of it while I can afford it? Definitely not. I love the old beast. Even though it has its faults - don't we all.

This is landing this weekend. I’ll be masking up and taking a train for the first time in a while!

I think my 3 series will be going and this will be my daily again - just like when this thread started. I’ll need to sort out some it’s issues this time rather than ignoring them though, mainly:

Oil leak - suspect it’s the oil filter housing gasket. Might get a garage to do this because it looks a pain.
PDC inop - wiring I think

Cruise control inop - not sure about this one and struggled with it before

Also could do with modernising the ICE - at a minimum it will need a hands free kit.

The brown is back!

Drove just as well as I remember, 150 miles home. Definitely need to sort that oil leak though which hasn’t fixed itself. Smells pretty bad at idle!

Neither remote key was working - had to unlock manually.

Thought it’d be a battery but it turns out these have weird batteries that aren’t as easily replaceable as the typical CR2032 you’ll find in most car keys. There is a reprogramming feature to get the remote working though:

Turn the ignition on and off 5 times

Remove the key, hold down the unlock button and press the lock button 3 fimes

Doors lock and unlock to confirm.

Works perfectly now ?

They're better specced than the usual chinese crap even though they're made in China!

Got a 2-year warranty as well which is dealt with in the UK, plus android auto and apple carplay.

Got a bit tired of this leaving oil in its wake everywhere it goes so whipped the undertray off to have a look

It’s absolutely covered in oil everywhere. Don’t have high enough axle stands and cba with the mess so I’ve booked it in to a specialist next week!

Clean the undertray off and put one of those oil absorbing pads on there. Someone had done that on a T5 I bought and it took 4 months before I noticed the fairly massive oil leak.

I feel your pain.

Just been through this with my Forester. Wallet took a bit of a beating but there's no way in reality I could have (or would have) tackled it.

Mine was the sump gasket and while it was off the engine mounting was shot so that was replaced as well.

How much did that cost? I gather it’s not a small job.

It was an involved job. I let my local indy BMW specialist tackle it. It was a day's work IIRC and around the £300 mark.

Did this with an E46 that shat oil

My massive leak a couple of years back on the v6 omega was the oil filter housing. As luck would have it, earlier versions had a screw on oil filter, so with the correct adaptor, which was maybe £8, I was able to junk.the oil filter housing altogether.

Hoping you have it as easy as I had it.
