Best car in the world?

….Launch in Ludicrous Mode would never get old either. It is truly bonkers. No so much that it can get off the mark that quick, but that such a big barge of a thing can, and the seamless, silent way it does it...

I wonder if it may cause weekend sports motorcyclists to be a little bit more restrained....

What a man of my caliber requires is something big. Something manly. Something that makes a massive statement about me as a person. Something that says ‘get the fuck out of my fucking way you peasants!’.

I forgot he had one! Top man imho!

Didn’t he get in some trouble for parking it outside Downing Street a while ago?

Lol, I so nearly posted a photo of that! IIRC they constructed a custom made clamp for his truck because he used to just park it anywhere as it obviously wouldn't fit in any standard parking space.

A Renault 4.

The best car ever...

Apologies if mentioned before but haven't read this thread as yet.

Now I'm starting to sense a few parking problems with me and Dan's choices. So if money really is no problem at all I'm gonna need somewhere with parking for two buses as well as the cars and a decent amount of workshop space.

I've decided on Stamford Brook Bus Garage.

This should keep me going for a little while, though I reckon I could fill it up eventually. Well placed, just off Chiswick High Street for all the shops you'll ever need and near enough to the M3 and M4 for easy access out of London (at certain times of day anyway). The office areas could easily be converted into luxury accommodation.

Dan you're welcome to come and park your truck in here, especially if you fill that trailer with diesel.

Jaguar E-Type, Lancia Stratos, or a Lamborghini Countach for me. Simply because I adored them as a child, especially the Lambo, the sheer stupidity of them was very intriguing for a 5 year old boy.

I'd go for a Toyota Century. Understated, refined, and luxurious.

I'd have to have an aircraft hanger full of cars for each & every occasion.  It'd have to include a Multipla with a Busso engine, a 2cv with a BMW1200 bike engine and one of those 'modern' Morgans with the Harley engine.

But to be honest i've always thought RX7's were pretty much perfect, prices are just as silly as other cars brought up in the thread so far.

I recon I’d have a v12 vantage is never get tired of looking at it or listening to it.

I don’t like new Ferrari’s but I like the older ones. I wouldn’t kick a 575 or testorossa out of bed .

No. I'd much rather have a Vectra. Practical etc etc.

Okay I won't pick a Wols 6/110 this time (but yes I really want to). Money no object I might well go for the CMC re-imagining of the Jag mk.2, style of an oldun' with modern new mechanical bits, what are they £350k? Rather too boy racer for my taste but as a bespoke motor I could have it tastefully altered.

However instead I'd probably go with a modest car collection, with change to spare for repairs when they all constantly go wrong:

Wolseley 6/110, Rover P5, Citroen DS, Wolseley Hornet, Standard Vanguard estate, Rover P6, Jag S-type, Vanden Plas Princess 4 Litre R

I preferred the "FC" generation RX7, even though it lacked the "go" of the "FD".

Ian McCallum when he had contracts with Halfords and Fibresports. Fucking disgraceful.

Had the Reverend Bluejeans and I won the "open the box" last night in the pub!

I would be nearer to my Grail Car.

However we didn't and had to be content with a visit to the Star Wars Cantina!

I think a lot of people on here would be very disappointed if they ever did drive that dream, I bet a fair few of the cars on here would be really shite to drive.

Actually 456 is a good shout - one of these would definitely be in my lineup.

Room for the Labrador in that one!????

One of the few Ferraris I use to see with actual mileage on them. Suggests they're of some actual use, rather than sitting around admired*.

Rover P5B. Always loved the shape of them and the interior. Navy blue best colour ever.

60's Mustang with the biggest V8 available. And drum brakes for that bit of added excitement.

Nissan Skyline R33.  Was offerred one at a really cheap price last year, and kick myself still because I turned it down. Bog standard apart from split rim wheels, just perfectly weighted and sounded great.

And I'd buy another 100 bhp for my Saab, which is probably harder to obtain.

This is very true, on Tuesday I drove a 600 bhp V12 DB11, across decent roads and without the owner in the passenger seat. Now it's not really my sort of thing anyway, but even in GT mode it's too noisy and harsh, there's no way you could ever call it a luxury tourer, in Sport+ it's an animal and great fun for about 5 minutes. But if you want savage acceleration etc, why not just get an Atom or Caterham or a bike? And save £150k.

The things that really makes this and other expensive sportscars redundant are big SUVs, my drive across the Cotswolds was in convoy* with a Bentley Bentagya, now I'm sure a better driver than me could leave the big ugly VAG barge for dead, but even they wouldn't make it faster in a straight line, there is literally nothing between them from rest to speeds that would get you locked up.

So it would seem all those rich people driving Cayennes, Cullinans, Uruses, SVR Range Rovers etc aren't wrong, they've probably tried the exotic stuff and realised its not worth the discomfort. I was happy to get in my hated Passat, so a Mk2 Cavalier CDi or XR4x4 would be real luxury.

Maybe the next big thing will be Restomod rep cars from the 80's, £150k Hybrid super luxury SRi Cavaliers and Renault 21s. Presumably a lot of today's multi-millionaires started their careers behind the wheel of such things.

I'm a bit late to this and most of my choices have already gone. First thing that sprang to mind was a Tatra. Any Tatra. From the outlandish style of the 77 or 87 to the almost bland but still classy communist era styling of the 613 or 700. Basically the first one that came up for sale. But they've already been mentioned several times.

So I'll have one of these.

Not a standard Routemaster, I've already got one of those, but a Green Line RCL. And if, as the original brief states, money was no object, I'd use it as my daily. It's fast (cruises at 60, easily fast enough for most journeys), comfortable, handles much better than most people realise, exceptionally well built and easy to park. No, honestly it is, you can just leave it on a bus stop. It's also exempt from the congestion charge and LEZ. Perfect.

RCL 2260 was my wedding car. Cheaper than hiring some kind of executive car with chauffeur to take wifey to the reg office, plus all the guests could jump on board as there was limited parking where we got married.

I've yet to drive a Routemaster (or an RT) on the road, I drove an RML around some private roads in Maidstone. Beautiful old thing to drive, feels more modern than some of the HGVs I've been behind the wheel of. Owner was quite impressed that I can change a semi-auto properly as well....

One thing I would say is it's a bit cramped for me....
