This has fallen down the page a bit too far, so consider this a free bump to bring a quality motor back up to the top.

BMW was sold and collected on the weekend, thank you.

R11 was meant to be the same, but no contact, no show.

So seeing as I operate on a 'first to actually give me money' basis it's still for sale.

It's now £850 as it does run well and it was a bit too cheap.

No swaps.

Managed to flood it the other day but it's working fine now. Gearbox still works, ride is still absurdly soft.

Edited to add there is a potential earth issue with the rear lights as the brake lights don't seem to work...but the reverse and indicators do.

I was just thinking about this the other day.. does is still run better with choke? Any more concerns with running hot?

Posted

Seems fine without choke too, and it doesn't seem to have hot running issues either. I would recommend a service however, just because. Tiny engine in a roomy bay though!

Any moar pics? A few don’t seem to be showing up on the OP

It's one of them mate - an interesting old car which technically should be worth your asking all day long. BUT...hard to reconcile myself to the fact that I would have been paid to take it away 10 years ago / could buy an MOT'D Vel Satis for £500. £675 a bit too cheap you say? Probably not. Imho, this is gonna command £600 once bargaining is allowed for. GLWTS - why not keep it?

Meh.

I could have bought an XR2i for £500 in 2001. They’re now £5k. What of it? It’s irrelevant what things once were (my parents bought their first house for £9,000).

You need one buyer for a car. One. Compared with another example just listed at £2000 on eBay, this is extremely good value.

The market will decide its value, but it’s certainly above £500 based on comparable cars being bought and sold today.

Agreed. Although I may try that line on a few e bay mk2 escorts and see what happens. (Answer- lolllllz from the seller)

I can honestly say - I looked this over the other day when munchkin drooled over it. If it were mine and they tried to get me down to less than 800 I'd be laughing in their ill-informed faces......... sorry.

That car is a belter.......

GLWTS BramFella..... munchkin said if he doesn't get a Lamborghini when he's older - he wants the Renault!

I think it's worth the asking price to be honest. It drives really well and is probably the only 11 in this colour left.

I might record a video of it on the weekend to give people a better idea of what it's like.

Also jackytwoshoes, I'll pm you some photos a little later.

GLWTS, it deserves to be in a museum of French culture, ran by the EU at hideous expense.

Took it to work today. I left the choke out for most of the journey...started stuttering a bit near to work, kept the revs up and it got better, took the choke off when I parked and it idled fine.

I think it just needs a few drives to get the crap out. So comfy!

I absolutely bloody love the look of the R11 but I'm still stuck needing an estate :(

Should have got a smaller dog...

EDIT: I know you have the 156 for sale as well, very tempted by that too but I'd need to sell the Saab first.

11/10 Would if it was located within 1000 miles of my front door.

Alas, all I can do is drool.

The Renault 5 auto I had, with the same engine / box combination (albeit turned round t'other way), was surprisingly high geared - it'd do over 40 in 1st.  Not brilliant for acceleration off the line, but it was a surprisingly relaxed cruiser (or would have been if the steering rack didn't have 1/4 turn of play in it),

What revs is it pulling at 70? Is it screaming or relatively peaceful?

3-speed 'box  possibly about 3000rpm at 70mph?

Posted

Theres no rev counter so I'm not sure...but as Wuvs says the gearing is tall so it's not screaming it's nuts off. Personally the soft ride suits those NSL A roads more, it is the most glidy car I have ever driven.

Wish I had the readies for this, you're not far.

An impressive 22.84mph/1000rpm according to a Renault 5 press pack I just found online (the internet is amazing!). That means just over 3000rpm at 70. Not bad. Usual, and unusual issue is that there's nothing on the fleet I actually want to part with at the moment, and no space (still haven't actually got all the cars I own back home!).

Worth mentioning I drove this back up the various peaks from Redruth and Basingstoke on what was the hottest day of the year and it didn't cook...always promising!

Sailed past a Fabia that was struggling up a very tall hill near Salisbury.

Let’s have some more pics then!

Aaaaaand it’s gone.

Two sold in one day hopefully means three bought later today (!)

Fucking hell, been checking out on the net and you were right, I were wrong. R9 & R11s now selling for real money - who would have guessed it 10 years ago?
