Took me 4 hours to catch up.

I'll cut it down to basics for anyone in the same position as I was.

Invacars are no more dangerous in London than a bike or electric scooter.

We have a new member who is not afraid to speak his mind, but is afraid of listening.

We have the welcome return of an old member.

Saabnut is God and I wish him well.

or if you want to sum it up by way of music

I perticularly like this picture of UVW285L as I finally have a half decent photo of an L suffix Invacar Model 70 on Silver on Black plates, I have have managed to get a couple decent ish AC shots, but none for Invacar (just video stills etc) because Model 70 being fleet vehicles etc they remained on silver on black plates until the 1st of Jan 1973 when the rules forced them to finally switch

im sorry to say @plasticvandan but its pretty clear that despite the fact you might of been involved with these vehicles closer to the times they where around in Period, most of the information you seem to have about them is false or untrue, I understand that you got a lot of your information from Julian Nowill and while he was a well intentioned person, who was one of the first to genuinely care about Invacars and the preservation of them, sadly his information about them and methods, where not so good, and it lead to many machines on False identifies, Q plates, and the Ministry tightening down their grip on machines

it was because of Julians encouragement for people to actually steal cars as you mention above, that the Ministry clamped down and it lead to the extinction of some very rare Villiers machines, for example the Sole surviving 8ft tall drive-while-standing AC Acedes was explicitly scrapped rather then saved because of the way Julian was going on about things

thankfully as previously mentioned, Stuart Cyphus the successor to Julian, later patched up the ICR's relationship with the Ministry, and as mentioned later on, got a letter from the Ministry which stated that although they knew exactly which machines had been stolen under Julians time as head of the ICR, that they where no longer going to try and get them back, and that they dont care about any other machines which had survived the destruction order

Model 70's have a chassis stamped number, @busmansholiday can vouch for this if nothing else, as once I told him where to look he uncovered the chassis stamped number of MPH759P on my behalf

so I do kindly ask that you let me handle the technical Invacar questions :) as mentioned previously we dont need Old Fear Uncertainty and Doubt being spread here :) this is not the mid 2000's anymore!

I have to say, I don't think some of the arrogance on show there does you any favours LBF.

I normally enjoy your posts & the Invacar info & we all know you know your stuff but come on, some of that was rather rude imo.

I agree that it was not my best form and somewhat on the nose, but as you can tell I really dont like it when people spread disinformation about these vehicles! I and others have worked for many years to to clear their name so to speak and try and sort out the misinformation  that is normally associated with them*, so I want someone who's information is out of date coming in here and setting the clock back! and its not the first time PVD has suddenly turned antagonistic, so I will admit I was quite curt with my opening and ending there and I am not proud of it

*for example I see Graham hills comments from the Hansard reports where pulled up, but look at the dates 1969-1970, is when he had that Invalid vehicle, he was driving an AC Acedes Mk15 Model 67, nothing to do with the Model 70 at all, so really not a fair comparison/comment to use against the Model 70

and theres lot of things like this, theres another Hansard report to do with the Model 70, where they talk to a User about his "Model 70" and despite trying to verify in the hansard report that he indeed has a Model 70, its pretty clear he does not, as he talks about it having 1 door and 1 wheel drive, so obviously not a Model 70! and then he goes on about having had it for 20 years! (keep in mind this is the mid 1970's here) so really not a Model 70 LOL

The more Hansard minutes* I see ( eg in private eye or the byline times) the  more it is that both mps and the House of Lords appear to talk without knowledge.

You did read the Autocar articles ?

indeed its from these results that they improved the design of the Model 70 to correct most of the issues brought up in the crash test results, see for example where previously in this thread I talk about how they redesigned the fuel tank and fuel tank mounting system and retrofitted this to all earlier machines, along with a collapsable front mud guard, and moving the gear-change from the dash to the floor, as well implementing specific changes to the chassis on vehicles rolling off the production line, to further enhance crash safety :)

"Recently, the famous racing driver, Mr. Graham Hill, used a wheelchair as a result of an accident, and he was asked to test one of the three-wheelers for a national newspaper. I will quote his own words. He said: I was so appalled at what I found that ever since then I have tried everything within my power to publicise the fact that such vehicles should not be allowed on the road. If those strong words are not enough, would add that an independent test was carried out by the Cranfield Institute of Technology, and confirmed what Mr. Hill had said. Indeed, there were seventy points presented. I shall not weary your Lordships with all of them, but I will mention just a few which will no doubt be appreciated by the drivers among your Lordships. The test showed that the trikes are difficult to control in high winds; they are dangerous when braking and swerving; they have a flimsy fibre glass body which 749is not structurally reinforced, and indeed may well be inflammable in the event of fire; the petrol tank is mounted under the front of the bonnet; and they have only one door which could well prevent a driver from getting out in the event of the vehicle turning over. It is not difficult to see that the trike is outmoded and dangerous."

High praise from a man who made his living driving a flimsy plastic deathtrap lashed together in a Norfolk shed by a corrupt, tax-dodging spiv who didn't give a fuck about the safety of his drivers.
