Hi Dan! Yes please! These (the tddi version at least) are high on my potential mythical new car replacement list! What rough mpg do you get from the 1.6?

My 1.8tdci averages high 40s to low 50s in normal driving, I've had an indicated 61mpg out of it on a run from Yorkshire to Longleat and back.

How many monkeys did you have on the roof on the way back?

3 on the roof, 1 on the bonnet and 17 in the boot along with a giraffe and a zebra lol

Thought you would have had a Jaguar on the bonnet.

Morning folks. Im Clarky, a 40 year old man with absolutely no mechanical skills whatsoever but i do have a love of old, ordinary cars that most folk would consider piles of dog shit. I came across this forum by watching hub nut vids on youtube. I have been the proud owner of a chrysler avenger and a couple of aerobacks over the years and have always lusted after a morris marina but have never quite taken the step. Currently drive about in a 66 fiat panda that i use as my work van but i am scanning the internet for a characterless late 90's shit box to complete me. I look forward to being part of this community and having absolutely no idea what anyone is talking about., Cheers.

I'm new to the forum. But I've been a lurker for a while - currently rebuilding a 1990 Montego 1.6 LX saloon.... It might even get back on the road next year!

I have fond memories of being ferried home from swimming club as a young kid in the back of a ferrous coloured Avenger circa 1984, I assume it was ferrous coluored and not just rust.

and welcome btw.

If it was past its first MOT it was very likely to be rust, if mine was typical.  The Owd Giffer bought it new in 1976 and we were doing major bodywork repairs by the spring of '81...

about the only thing between you and onus-ship of this one if it's still 4 sale is it's location in Canada

Was lukewarmly discussed here OCT 4th. You Too Could Drive The New Bland. A Plymouth Sundance, 1993, a 180-kilometer*-shite-for-sale-special.

Mysteriously low miles. Unexplained reticence to list price. This car is not where Rarity Road and Desirability Drive meet.

Hi, and thanks for letting me join. I’ve been a long time lurker and follower of all the ‘shite exploits from down here in Devon.

It’s funny thinking that I have run some of the featured cars such as ZX1.9d, Astra 1.7d, many Mondeos, 406 etc  as company cars when relatively new,

I’ve also run plenty of cars at the cheap banger end of the market, such as Mazda Demio, Saab 900, Rover 416, 1.7d Corsa van.

Other cars have included TR7, Scimitar GTC, Ford Anglia 105e, XR2, Mk1 Escort. The xr2 and escort were both picked up for less than 200 quid each, which  is probably going to give more of an idea of my age.

Current fleet includes an ageing, daily driven Defender 90 that has required a lot of work to save from the scrapyard, a Polo 1.9sdi owned for the last 12 years, oh and a 1964 Raleigh rm9 ultramatic being built up from a pile of bits.

I look forward to the continuing mayhem and also the odd roffle.

I only buy cars for less than £3K. E39 540i 4-piped specially for Greta. Lexus RX400H, well got to have something reliable in the stable. Clio 1.2 mark 2. Good runner £700 knicker. For my son who’s not interested in cars. Favourite car? My long gone but missed VW scirocco MK1

I have quite a fleet of autoshite - mostly MG Rover or Rover group... or what eventually became Rover.

2003 MG ZR105

2001 Freelander 1 1.8

1967 Mk3 Spitfire

and a few others... erm... can't afford a coat, otherwise I'd go get it now.

Hello Everyone.

Thanks for letting me join, I'm from Sudbury in Suffolk. I think I'd come across the forum before but it was the various Hubnut videos which made me aware of it properly. When I was younger I was very much into cars, then not so much in recent times but again through the likes of Hubnut and Retro Classics, that interest has grown again lately.

Don't have any autoshite at the moment, but been on the look out for something along the lines of a BX, 309 or Astra Mk3  - just to use as a weekend car and to go along to the local "cars in a field" classic shows.

That's a brand new car!
The golf cost me £375 and needed a wheel bearing and a cat for its mot.

It replaced a 2001 citroen xsara 1.4 that drove to work one day and suffered monumental bsi failure!

And made me ride a bike for 3 months to work!!

Howdo, I should have popped in here to say hello before steaming into threads. I have a shitey old Renault Clio from a long line of shitey Clio's. I also own a shitey old Transalp.

I think that qualifies me for, if nothing else having appalling taste in motor vehicular transport.

Thanks for having me.

I saw Eric Richard (Bob Cryer) in Dunkirk last week (the film not the place). I'm not sure of there are any  more Bill character avatars on here or not. Should be compulsory for a short while at least, like owing DAFs was in 2012 or Laguna's in 2016.

Anyone rates a Mk 1 Scirocco is a person of exquisite good taste.

Welcome Rob.

For the benefit of others I have known Rob for a few years.  He has been very helpful with the diagnostics business, is a really nice fellow and an absolute expert on MGFs and K series engines.
