Good Evening Shiters!

Or at least, it is from New Zealand. Which is where I'm based.

Like a few new members, I've heard of this place from HubNut, and after taking a look, I found it was right up my street!

I'll do a post at some stage with some car history and photos as I don't have these on my computer but I've owned a variety of vehicles in my short driving career, including a Mitsubishi RVR (Space Runner to UK folk, mine was a Japanese import car), a Toyota Starlet, and, as is appropriate to my username, a Honda Odyssey!

All of my cars (Except for the most recent) have been to a certain extent rather chodfull, with various bits not quite working, odd leaks, and suspicious smells.

That being said the car I currently I drive is a 2010 Honda Fit 1500....which is awful*. Though to any sane person I guess it is the perfect car - it's economical, quiet, comfortable, even has climate control, heated seats, and cruise control, I find myself totally bored to tears with it, and I'm very tempted to flog it, and buy something cheap and shite, but moderately interesting.

However the other point that plays on mind is that in New Zealand, bangernomics doesn't really work as well as it does in the UK - you really need to spend around NZ$2500 to buy something decent that will pass Warrants of Fitness (Our equivalent MOT), and car parts are not so cheap here, nor so plentiful. I think in part this may be due to a lack of incentive to get rid of perfectly decent* older cars - we don't tax cars based on emissions, it's a flat rate for all vehicles. That being said, we do get some fine* Japanese shite through as fresh imports.

I do love a good classic British Leyland/Austin Rover product though which is one of the reasons I've joined, to see more of that - especially the late Austin Rover stuff, such as Maestro's, Montego's, and to a lesser extent, Metro's are not common here at all. And a dream car for me would have to be an Austin Maxi 1750!

If there are any other New Zealand based shiters, please feel free to give me a wave! Any tips on bangernomics in New Zealand would be well appreciated.

Thanks for having me in your community!

Craig :-)

*A quick edit: I see my rank is "Toyota Starlet" - how appropriate!

Hello, just signed up today and thought I'd introduce myself.  Only just discovered the forum via a link on Pistonheads, and was immediately hooked!

Late to the world of cars I've only had boring and mundane modern motors for the last ten years or so, my oldest being a fantastic Mazda Tribute, but even that was a '52 plate.  My current tin shit is a '99 Ford Cougar, acquired from my father in law after failing it's MOT.  It was made good and used in a banger rally to Monte Carlo last year where I fell in love with the thing and convinced the missus that we needed a large, impractical unloved Ford.

Ever since I've been acquiring parts and learning what a 'spanner' is in anticipation of much needed fettling to keep it sound.

Nice looking Cougar you have there

Been meaning to become a member on here for a while! Love older obscure vehicles. Currently have neither newish C-Class and a 300zx TT, although my Z32 could be considered, but not really at a FOTU or shed-level. Cars I miss the most, a BX TZD Turbo which I paid £90 for and a Citroen ZX 16v which cost considerably more. I want to get another 90s Citroen (big fan of them) to add to the fleet, very early Xantia  SX would be my  absolute perfect choice.

Ian Seabrook is a reason I find myself here although vaguely know Rich Newton.

My Z32:

Hi all, hope you're well! I'm based in the South of England and currently have three cars, one is autoshite material, one is semi autoshite material, and one may not be. I'll let you decide which is which!

2001 Perodua Nippa EX (I blame Ian 'DollyWobbler' for this...)

1990 BMW E30 325i Touring manual in about 5 shades of red, with a tonne of issues and "quirks"

2001 Volvo S60 T5 Manual, circa 300BHP with some fettling.

:)

We are ALL gender blind Now.

It's the 21st century and you being a girl is of little consequence.

You might pop along to the Sad and Single thread and give a female opinion.  We won't assume it's the opinion of every woman.

Volvo you say? 240 you say. Sounds Scotish to me.

Greetings, I'm your latest Shiter.

I had a Rover (which I liked), but I sold it and purchased a Saab (which I don't like). I'm now resentfully driving that Saab into the ground to get my money's worth.

Greetings just watching. Why did you sell the Rover?
