Hello,

I've had a long line of cheap and crap cars as I never used to be able to say "no" (hence the name).

Had enough of working on them, little breakdowns etc and decided to get a new car, I'd had it for months until this weekend when drunk uninsured driver decided to write it off while it was parked. I've since realised that cheap yet lovable cars are far less of headache when something goes wrong.

Oh and have a photo of the damage for something to look at.

Hi everyone. I've been lurking as a guest for a bit but thought I'd better register and actually contribute.

Currently running a 1998 Rover 214 (primarily used by my wife for her 4 mile commute) and a possibly future shite 2016 Dacia Sandero (Ambience trim level - none of this fancy Laureate shite!). Fun fact about the Sandero - it's already rusting in two places on the drivers door and on the bonnet. Weirdly this doesn't make me hate it.

I must confess to being a bit of an 80s and 90s Ford pervert and have a one owner Escort RS Turbo in the garage that's done 150,000+ miles and shows it. It hasn't run for almost 9 years and really isn't in tremendous nick but I deeply love it. One day hoping to restore it so my son can eventually flog it for a fortune :-) (if old Ford prices keep doing what they're doing)

Shite I have run in the past:

1998 Mk1 MX-5 1.8iS (great car that I absolutely abused for a few years with a daily 30 mile commute on A1/M25)

1998 Micra 'Passion' (relentlessly reliable and loveable car until the clutch started to give up during a roadtrip to France. After making it home and upon further investigations finding a fair amount of scary looking rust, I'm a little bit ashamed to say that it ended up a victim of the scrappage scheme)

1993 Uno 'Start' (Engine absolutely shat itself with no warning whatsoever and due to being in financial dire straits at the time couldn't fix it so it got weighed in. Gutting as it was actually a pretty nice example)

1983 Mk1 XR2 (quite a ropey example that I was forever fixing. Owned before prices of old Fords got silly so bought it for £400, ran it for a couple of years, then sold it as a non-runner without an MOT for £250. In hindsight that doesn't seem so bad but I dread to think how much something similar would fetch these days. Apparently the guy that bought it off me still has it and did a good job restoring it)

I also had (and fell in love with) a 2009 Fiat Panda 100hp. Bought new and sold to make way for the Sandero (I know, but the Panda really wasn't a capable baby wagon). I mention it mainly because I feel like there is something inherently shite about the 2nd Gen Pandas, and it's just insane to me that they even bothered to make a mildly warm boy-racer version. Making the case that it's future shite is probably a hill I'm happy to die on :-)

Anyway, hello. I'm Kerr. I live in Hertfordshire (although I'm originally from the West coast of Scotland) and if a car is generally regarded as awkward, ugly, and unloved, I probably have a soft spot for it.

Hi I'm new, found the site from watching Hubnut videos. Had lots of shite cars I currently have a MK1.5 Focus Ghia which is pretty tidy (if you ignore the gaffer tape on the front wing) my favourite car was my rusty old Dolomite Sprint I got when I passed my test in 2003, loved that wreck!

Hi mate, near Brigg in Lincolnshire, I'll have to see if I can dig out some old pics of the Dolly........be prepared for lots of rust/filler/primer! I will grab a pic of the Focus when I nip out later ?

Hello everybody!

I’m into all sorts of shite, from mopeds to trucks, buses, machinery (hence the username). Live in London but relocating to the north-east soon, where hopefully I’ll have more room to expand my collection of, well, shite!

Had a few lurks of the forum over the years, and finally got around to registering, so hope to be able to contribute and ask daft questions in return ?

Hi I'm martc mk11 I used to be martc but due to technical problems I have had to re-register. Hopefully the technical boffins will be able to resurrect the original martc soon.

Sorry, should have posted my shite! Currently consists of a 161K mile Honda Stream, an 07 Ford Ranger, various Honda CX500’s, a Honda Hornet, a Honda Innova, and a GSX550.

My previous shite includes various 3 Litre Capris, loads of MK2 Escorts, a Toyota Camry, a Scania 143, an E14 ERF, an Austin Maestro, various Sierra pub cars, etc etc etc.

I think I’m quite a Shiter ?

Hello there.  Not quite sure what to say other than that! Seems the thing to do here is list the bags of crap I’ve owned.

I’ve had a rover 214

rover 25

polo bread van

ashamed to say I once owned a corsa!

The good news is the profile merging function we now have works fine.

The bad news is you now look like a madman talking about yourself like that :D

You may have to rigorously defend your choice of username by the way :D I nearly didn't approve you as you sounded like trouble..... but you apologised for the Corsa so it's fine.

It's OK, you've got one of them knock-off 2CVs haven't you? With your lah-de-dah square headlamps.

Had a black MK2 3.0 Ghia auto, that ended up dumped somewhere. An orange MK3 with matching orange interior, various MK2 Escorts, an RS2 that’s still about, one of my old 1600S’s is still going, loads of 1100 and 1300’s that were modded/crashed/cannibalised. Problem always was storage, if I lived on a farm, I’d have kept every last one of them. The one that got away was a red 1300S I saw for sale, and didn’t buy... ?

Also had a nice Dolomite Sprint, have absolutely no idea what happened to it. Should have bought a Matra Bagheera I was once offered, too. Could go on, but I’m depressing myself now!

And my I debut my super accurate picture, to replace the totally sane George double-u, madman indeed...

Hampshire mate, I have a thing for Alfa GTV's, the 90's ones but also would love a GT Junior but they are just so out of reach these days.

Alfa 33 Perm4 might be my next project...a proper old shitter :)

Into proper Alfas of old, not all this modern shite!

Buonasera Tutti

Very long time reader finally gets round to joining in.

I have a problem buying very cheap powered transport. How it all began ?

My Dad  always had some sort of volvo estate to tow caravans around Europe, 1 day in late 70s he came home with a brand new Renault 30  v6 metallic bronze and  4 headlights !, I still remember those velour brown seats and the noise/speed after the volvos. 1st long trip down to Italy with caravan and it broke down , 2 days stuck in Italian motorways service station but mum did buy me my dream car there,1/25 scale lancia fulvia hf1600, still got it 40 odd years later &  I'm still dreaming for the real thing but it is never going to happen. This taught me that spending lots does not work and big is not always best. But I did like Italy and I would still love to own a rust free Renault 30.

Short  summary of some of the best  ?vehicles I have owned, none of these cost more than £500, lots were £50 .

1986 just past test and I bought ideal 1st car.  A Purple reliant bond bug. Did not stay long, my Dad had a go in it and suggested probably not an ideal 1st car !

minis ( a few )

Ex british gas mini van that I ruined by hand painting it A Team style with hammerite ( I am truly sorry to whoever ended up saving it after me)

Marina coupe converted to bike festival camper van. I was always in envy of my friend with his ital estate.

Triumph spitfire that tried to kill me on a Basingstoke roundabout. got it towed to a lockup garage near a friends house and forgot about it and I never saw  it again. To whoever found it or stole it many years later the big dent up front was probably the easy part to fix, all the newspaper and fiberglass holding the body together was my professional rust repairs, sorry.

volvo 360gls  OOOOHHHHHH yes please .This was a very smart hand me down from Dad, I was stopped by the police so many times in this it was unreal, all because I was a long haired 20year old in an unusual car, but I always passed the attitude check.

fiat uno diesel that broke its clutch cable in rush hour traffic in the blackwall tunnel, stop start in gear before stop start was invented.

rover 214 salooooooon, a rather fabulous car that refused to die.

Many motorbikes but the highlight has to be the honda spacy 125 with POP UP HEADLIGHT for about FREE. I was young (ish) and foolish and did not know the meaning of cool so unfortunately this got abandoned on the old kent road in London when the drive belt snapped.

And the lowlight of bike ownership has to be the bmw k100rs bought for commuting into London duties for well over my usual budget that was an expensive disaster and well beyond my mechanical ability.

Leyland sherpa petrol van that was brilliant for £50. At the time I was an assistant accountant at a fancy head office, I loved parking that in the works car park, my Dad always said 1st impressions count. Someone stole the fuel pump which took me a few days to work out why in would not start, Leyland rather helpfully put the pump in an easy place to access it, so I went to Thamesmead and helped myself to another 1.

Peugeot 205 turbo diesel, wish I still had it now but sold to my brother for nothing.

Triumph herald that I took the roof off of ( who let the dogs out !) all year round while living in south London, swapped that car for 2  bike parking spaces in a friends garage.

Honory mention goes to 1972 2.3ltr Bedford cf autosleeper that I had for a few years that bankrupted me going on holiday from the south of England to tour Scotland in the early 90s, I loved it but it loved a drink !

Being a Sir and living in London I also had my luxury private airport transport fora few years. An Austin allegro in brown used only for driving to Stanstead airport and left many times on the streets of bishop Stortford, again I am very sorry to all the house owners whose roads outside I left puddles of oil and petrol.

2006 and I sold everything I owned apart from 1 motorbike and rode down to Italy to start a new life.

Sorry for long intro, will hopefully add some interesting stuff to the forum, can offer Italian translation for Ferrari ( sorry meant fiat ) buying.

Thanks for all the writers who over the years have kept me entertained.

Your humble servant, Sir Chocolate Teapot.

Hi all.  Not a new member as such, more one who went 'off-radar' for a while (health and general life issues getting in the way).  I'm back now though.  No car to speak of right now but hoping to rectify that situation before too long.  Plenty of old shite to go around over here, that's for sure!  Upgraded website's looking good so going to catch up on all the stuff I've been missing!

Wilkommen!

Love your story, I’ve been guilty of hasty dumping too. Had a MK1 Golf GTI Campaign (!) that I dumped in Streatham, simply because I had grown to hate it... The foolishness of youth, eh?
