Hi, finally got round to registering, after hearing a few mates talk about the shiteness here…

Currently own a few cars, some are more shite than others:

Daily = 2014 Mondeo estate, previous cat N write off so it was cheap, and it’s £35 a yr to tax…

1979 Citroen Visa Club 652cc twin cylinder. Jaune Mimosa (bright yellow) and apparently the oldest one left on UK roads. (FOTU famous!)

1999 Lotus Elise in British racing green.

2003 BMW E39 530d Touring, with 220k on the clock.

How’s it going - recently just got accepted into this.

Coming up almost 2 years since I passed my test and my brain has slowly been plagued by shite cars

currently have 2 cars at the moment

2006 NA Subaru Impreza Wagon (my first car)

2011 W204 C-Class 250 CDI

Got both for pretty cheap, both high mileage. Bit of a rust issue on the Merc, so will need to look into welding potentially, but both been reliable (so far)

I've finally decided to come and say hello from Sheffield.

At the moment, I have 2 drivable cars:

  • Poppy, my 1994 Mazda 323F 1.6 GLXi ABS SR (fancy any more letters in there Mazda?)
  • Toro, a 2025 Mazda MX-30 R-EV Makoto for the daily duties (see below)

Additionally, I have a spare near-identical 1994 Mazda 323F which I use for parts to keep Poppy running and a 2009 (very late) Ford Ka mk1 1.3, which currently is not my friend and is also now being dismantled in anger after spending too long fixing too much for the head gasket to go.

You will probably see Poppy at FOTU, Rustival etc. most years, feel free to come say hi! I'll probably have a coffee in hand...

Absolutely, here she is:

IMG_2424.jpeg.7e365119f0cdeec2e272d3574741bd43.jpeg

Her wheel trims desperately needed a good scrub here, but she was back to red instead of 50 shades of pink for a change.

The little nose bump is from the previous owner, while parked on the road a Pajero reversed into her and took a trip up the bonnet. Mechanically, everything is now done, with an advisory-free MOT for the first time in a long time this year and no notable corrosion remaining.

That one you had looks lovely! Is that a GT with the spicy 1.8?

Loved the look of these when launched.

A Xedos! I'm rather a fan of them, sadly, I missed a great opportunity to get one at BCA awhile back, still regretting that.

Yeah I thought I'd missed the chance to get one but was offered this last year and with the race going one returning to the UK for super touring power last year I thought its now or never

A thread about mine if you're interested in reading

might be looking at moving mine on late summer so maybe there's still an opportunity for you 🤣

What's the story with your 323F? How long you had it. Another Mazda with a BTCC pedigree

Oh goodness don't tempt me, I'll be in much trouble if I add another car to the fleet 😅

Poppy does have a relatively interesting story - I bought her from a lovely couple in the south in 2021 who had essentially saved her from being scrapped after she had the same owner for almost 20 years, they bought her with the intention of restoring her because she was in a pretty bad way, but simply never had the time to do so.

When I got her, she had a crack the width of the windscreen, a lot of corrosion all around and could not drive in a straight line.

Over the last few years, I've slowly got everything done, so the suspension has had a full refresh front and back, rear brakes overhaul with new calipers, lines ABS sensors as well as the usual bits, the ABS system itself has had a thorough going over after it just would not play ball and of course there has been a lot of welding along the way, but to a very good standard.

The most recent work has been replacing the 32 year old cat that finally gave in along with the flexi pipe (managed to find correct fitment, not universal) and correct SR-spec tail pipe, as well as replacing one of the rear calipers for the second time due to the previous "new" one lasting less than 3000 miles.

The 323F makes for a great first classic, but, parts availability really is the killer. If I didn't manage to get a spare car, I would have been in a lot more trouble.

Bonjour and hello.

My names Adey and I've been directed here by another member @Brigsy

Into my Renault stuff and the household is rarely without one. Usually a modern and a retro. Have been slapping them together since I started driving with my first car being a R5 campus 1.1 that I picked up for £90, that was a few years back now mind.

Current toy/build/rescue is the my Renault r8. 1397cc engine swap with a few tweaks, just refreshed all the suspension and now looking to use it even more

some of my other previous "saves" campus with a gt turbo engine swap. slammed r12 saved with plenty of time and some welding. Fiat 126 that had the flywheel fitted incorrectly... then it got lowered on gottis. And a renault dauphine, also low, engine swapped and still going now with its current custodian. These are just a few i have pics of. I will get a decent thread up for the R8 soon

Hello (or maybe Ahoj)

After some sober* ticket buying from a certain shite adjacent raffle site, I became the proud owner of the Favorit 'VRS' that I believe some of you are more than aware of

Hoping to find out a bit more about what random bits of vehicles it's made from and how friendly the last MOT man had to be!

I think this is going to follow me for a long time to come! Welcome along. I owned this for three years.

Briefly, the engine is a VW ARC as used in the Polo 6n2 GTI. The gearbox is standard Škoda. The front brakes, I'm told, are Kia Rio, the rear discs some standard VAG stuff. Power steering from a Felicia which is a straight swap.

@grogee will be along shortly to tell you what extra stuff he did, most importantly figuring that out how to wire in the missing MAF sensor which means future MOTs shouldn't be a problem. I had a small bit of welding done in my ownership but it was really solid and hopefully still is.

It features in both my and @grogees personal threads, though obviously you'll have to go back a bit.

It goes well doesn't it?

Where are you located?

Hello lucky raffle winner!

I'm glad you've landed here, it is the right place for 'Sammy' Skoda as the nu_Mrs Grogee christened it.

Getting through emissions was a challenge but I eventually overcame by wiring in a MAF sensor.

However...

Plugging that sensor in somewhat neuters the engine so as soon as it passed I unplugged it. You'll see it on the front suspension brace bar under the (very heavy) bonnet.

Full trials and tribulations are dealt with in my spannering thread, you shouldn't need to go back too far:

I hope you enjoy it as much as @Yoss and I did, it is hilariously fast. Please feel free to ask us questions, we're good like that round here.

Happy motoring.

Ps if you're wondering where the rear badge went, I knocked it off with my wheelybin. Sorry.

Amazing thanks @Yoss and @grogee (and thanks for the welcome @wesacosa and  @stuboy).  Will give the MAF a look over - will be exciting if it's plugged in as It goes really well as it is! :D

Not had it out much given the weather (the whistling sunroof concerns me in the wet)  but every time I have I come back happier which is always a good sign.

I'm in Swindon so plenty of opportunity to kangaroo around in 1st on roundabouts.

I did wonder how the badge was broken when I got it - badges are the first thing I'm looking at changing up, along with hopefully seeing if some 14 inch wheels will fit the front. This is once I pick it back up today as some filler had blown on the roof and it looked pretty nasty so currently having that sorted.

I put that badge on but it's not the proper badge, it's a modern one and it was designed to attach to a slightly curved surface. So to make it fit the very flat Favorit surface I filed it down on each side so it was rather thin at the edges so I'm not surprised if it broke.

It's getting closer to home again then, I'm in Southampton. I bought it from Ludlow, sold it to Northampton and it went via Retroshite Central before getting to you so there's little doubt you can just get in and drive it anywhere without worry.

Hi all, my name is Dillon.

I've heard a lot about this place from my fiancée @Amelia. She has been schooling me in the ways of being a "shiter".  I guess I've been one for a while as our beloved Perodua Kenari Lily is very much part of our story as a couple. And we're now the owners of a Toyota Yaris named Deborah. WhichI'm loving with it's 5 cupholders ( which is a delight after experiencing balancing coffee cups over the potholes of Essex in our Kenari), CD player (player, player) and manual windows - I think in this day and age, that's defo retro shite.

In terms of vehicles I've been more been a biker and a lover of classic cars and muscle cars in the past. In terms of owning cars before Amelia came into my life, in the past 20 years there's been: Peugeot RCZ - after the grill facelift - Jaguar XF, Rover 200 and various incarnations of the Peugeot 2008.

Now I'm a willing student (yes you can teach an old dog new tricks) of shite cars and am learning not just to love them but how to look after. I have a wonderful teacher after all. And now I'm here. So hey!
