On eBay an Italian  seller has several diecast cortinas , I presume eBay is automatically translating as titles say ford curtain ( cortina is Italian for curtain).

Quite like some of American Motor Corporation's old model names like Javelin and even Gremlin. There were even little gremlin motifs on the car!

Gremlin was the name of the small car VW Beetle competitor when it was in development and AMC just stuck with it.

Also like Hornet too, although that was the name of a Hudson model before that company was amalgamated into AMC.

Calling a car Gremlin is tempting fate especially back in the 60/70s.

I have always been surprised why Ford chose to name two of their cars after top shelf wank mags.

I’m not……..

Quite appropriate name really. Looks quite good, but disappointing and over priced.

Agreed but on the bike name flip side the Suzuki VanVan is just brilliant!

I have a real pet peeve for the Crossland and Glandland, I could accept these names if they were on a Chinese built car because of the language barrier but on a European car? If Opel really want to do the fun Germanic thing of sticking words together to make new words how about, mediumsizeslighlyuglyfamilywagon  or MittelGrößeetwashasslichfamilieauto!

Mind you it could be worse though, I spotted a Crosland that the owner had amended the badge to read Crossling 🤢

This should be in another thread , but the Magnum was so named because it overheated in spectacular fashion and water erupted out of the radiator like a big bottle of champagne.

Some bike names are awesome - Blackbird, Hornet, Himalayan, Rocket, Sportster, Bullet, Etc, Etc...

But my favourite is Hayabusa, not for the name but the trolling. Named after a falcon that hunts Blackbirds at a time when the Honda was the top dog.

But some are impossible to remember and even more impossible to differentiate between different models in the range.

I think most of the car names I've come up with are already mentioned.

It's sad to see how truck names have changed over the years. The old British marques had great names like Mammoth Major, Warrior and Super Mastiff that reflected their tough and dependable nature, my favourite being the superhero Guy Invincible. Nowadays it's either a string of random letters and numbers (DAF XF 105.460 FTG and MAN TGX 26.470 XXL for instance), meaningless words that look like typos (Actros and Arocs) or just plain silly like the Iveco Sway (S-Way) and Renault Thigh (T High).

Leyland liked to use animals for their lorries.

Honda Element.

Really annoying because the internet can’t distinguish between this

and this

They sure did, but for some reason Comet was also a long-running name among that menagerie of animals. On that basis I'll say Comet was the worst name for a Leyland truck as it's okay by itself but didn't fit the theme of the range.

That's brilliant, I never knew that!

Reminds me of the De Tomaso Mangusta, which is a cool sounding name in itself - but Mangusta is the Italian word for mongoose, an animal noted for its ability to kill Cobras...

While many are disgusted withFord’s use of the Mustang name on that EV , I don’t think we can complain if Dodge make an EV Charger.
