What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Have to say that it actually works really well and buyers seem to really like it. We've been doing eBay / Argos deliveries for about twelve months or whatever and everything anyone has said about the whole process has been incredibly positive.

I've used it myself a couple of times,it's just fact that egay's policy is written completely in favour of the buyer.

*this is in the wrong thread I'm grumpy as fuck about it*

A prick in a BMW 5 series has slammed his brakes on for no reason in front of me on a roundabout, my saph is now smashed, I'm heartbroken, its fordfair in 5 weeks so it looks like it won't be going :-( my mate at the bodyshop had 3 concerned phonecalls from mutual friends within 5 minutes of it happening after they had seen my car, one of them saw it happen and said the beamer driver stood on his brakes in front of me for no reason, the car has faired quite lucky, it needs a bonnet a pair of headlamps, bumper, grille

I'm thinking of giving up putting my all into my cars and driving shit I don't care about.

Fuck man, thats bad.

Dont forget, their not friends, but independent witnesses... And shouldnt this be in the grump thread?

Oh fuck I'm still in shock I saw the grumpy in the title and wrote my post

A prick in a BMW 5 series had to have his head surgically removed from his arse after slamming his brakes on for no good reason. Mysterious independent witnesses applauded the actions of the driver of a black Ford for performing such an act of artistic value.

Did the twat explain why? No doubt you will be the villain in all of this and he will claim whiplash injury. Stupid bastard.

Hope you are ok.

For exactly that reason I have a cheapy dashcam. £12 off the bay.

I bet your in shock, thats a beautiful car. Least it didnt shunt the engine about. If the braker is a cock, your neck could always start hurting...

It gets worse when I spoke to my insurance to report it and they said be expect for this to be seen as a fault accident as 99.9% of these cases are found the same in court even though it's obvious, the 5 series was a 15 plate looked like a hire car.

I'm going to see a mate who I've known for years later who just happens to break sierras and has the parts i need, he picked a saph up yesterday, it's red but I don't care the bonnet and bumper can get painted.

Was the BMW an automatic, I recall a family friend slamming on the brake because she was used to a manual box and went to change gear using the non existent clutch.

Posted

Unfortunately your insurer are probably right.  Whilst it wasn't your fault that he slammed on, the fact that you ran into the back of him means that they will see it as your fault. Same as when I had to accept 50/50 fault for an accident that wasn't my fault in the slightest a couple of years back.

Sorry about the car but sounds like you can at least get it fixed relatively painlessly.

Posted

Yeah, you can probably waste your time arguing it but you'll need some proof that there was no nuns or kittens in the road or something that he braked to avoid. Proving something wasn't there is quite difficult.

You might just need to take the hit and start fixing it up. Bad times.

see if you can contact IFED they deal with all this insewerance fraud type stuff

Well something that I can smile about, I have a pair of headlights, also a grille and under headlamp trim in black from my mate for a very good price, the bonnet he had was worse for wear, dents all over and the bumper was the wrong type he hadn't looked at the car properly yet, but he did get me the correct type bumper off a mate of his, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow so I'm happier now, he even ran me around to get the parts from his unit, we went to his to look at his Cozzy project and he dropped me off at mine, it really cheered me up, the type of people you meet and become friends with through being into cars is great

Put one of my old cassettes into the Xantia's cassette player.  Not only does it work, you can turn them up FAR louder than the radio.  So I've been driving around today with the windows down and 90s music playing obnoxiously loud just because I can.  Joy :D

Just remember that they can't take it away from you or force you to do anything you don't want. Tell them you see able to source parts and a specialist etc for xxx£ and you'll be happy with that. To be honest, this is why we have insurance, but they serve us, not the other way round.

Oh and as above- not friends, but independent witnesses.

Just bumped a thread up from 2013 on the astra owners forum to thank some dude for his how to guide! It's what I used to check progress, filling in the gaps and differences from the astra he did from the hbol.

Feel good now, hopefully karma will stay good to me and it wont go ping in 2 weeks...

I've already made the stipulations that my car isn't to go anywhere, under no circumstances will it be declared a total loss and it will be repaired by my trusted bodyshop, not by their dancing monkeys

Well today I've stripped the bumper off and replaced the headlights, it looks a world better just for those, I'm not replacing the bonnet or bumper yet in case n engineer wants to see it

I've just popped out to get tea so I remembered to actually take a picture

DSC_0886_zpsxmvtpsy9.jpg

They are lined up as good as I can in between the wonky bumper and wonky raised front corners bonnet, the passenger's side indicator is a depo one and the gap has never sat right the gap between it and the headlight has always been slightly wider at the bottom than at the top

As seen in this picture
