He really should get the engine change registered with the DVLA. They are bringing in this definition of a classic car that the european union are trying to sort and basically it could outlaw all modified classics. I had a problem when I wanted to register my Juvaquatre as the club dating muppet wouldn't date it due to modifications so I wouldn't of been able to register it. Luckily the previous owner found the carte gris so it was easy to register. If the purists have their way no modified cars will be allowed, but they are hoping to get an exemption for already modified cars as they are part of our culture or some crap like that. Still no one knows exactly what is going to happen as it is all to do with mot exemption for cars over 30 years old and you never know we might end up out of Europe so it may never happen.

Dickhead landlord has sent bigger list of stuff that is wrong with the house. Apparently the fact we had a bulb go and couldn't work out how to replace it so left him a pack of bulbs is utterly unacceptable.

Off to dispute resolution so that grown ups can laugh at his idiocy and tell him what a prick he is*

He wants new stuff where as they depreciate everything, so his old carpets are pretty much worthless.

* may not happen.

As a landlord, repairs and replacement of items can be offset against his tax liabilities. That's if has declared his income from renting to HMRC, and paid the appropriate tax upon this income.

2 years. Two downstairs carpets, replaced one as dog dug a hole in it, which with hindsight we shouldn't have as we would only be liable for % of replacement (but wanted to do right thing)

Other was professionally cleaned which is what adjudication expects.

No tenancy agreement will specify professional cleaning ( most don't meet my mum's standard anyway), although it's good to get the place in the condition it was to start with, if not better. Checking agents expect to make allowances for in wear and in use ( iwiu).

It's not fair, or indeed legal, to make you pay for things not your fault that were notified to the landlord. I need to get on to mine at the moment as the top frame on my patio doors has wet rot and a chunk fell off last week. Nothing I do will have affected this or made it better. It's just part of their Jobs to do as owner ( or agents for ) of the property. However, I accept that the red wine splash up the wall next in the kitchen next to the cooker is all my fault and will paint it.

There is a clause saying carpets must be pro cleaned if animals in house. Not a problem as replaced one and had other cleaned. Dogs didn't go upstairs so they were just cleaned by me.

Went to a hanger dance last night at RAF Molesworth.......held in a proper 1940s hangar with good live big band.

We had to get there early as we had been invited to take the car in. To reach the base you go down a country lane......till it becomes a track and you arrive at the back gate. Very polite bloke with a gun checks you I'd and ticket and you're in......

Bloody good night

My ex's did. Specified carpets must be professionally cleaned upon leaving, as they had been before she moved in.

By the time she move out there was more makeup than carpet visible in the bedroom, and the pro's shifted it no bother.

I am fortunate in that my flat is an utter shit hole, so spilling food etc on the floor actually improves the aesthetic.

New one one me! I've had assured shorthold tenancies for twenty years.

Seems to be standard these days, I didn't have a tenancy without the prof cleaning thing, not that I ever had them cleaned mind, decent vacuum was enough

Gutted to have missed that event. For the second year on the trot! Maybe one year, it won't clash with things.

Took the Mercedes out for a quick drive today (still as lovely to drive as ever). The seat base has always felt like it has collapsed a bit. Pulled on the lever on the side of the seat, and the seat base at the rear raised! I was sure I had tried this lever before, but whatever the reason, the seat is so much more comfortable now it has raised a bit at the back.

Driving up the coast road today and there was a bike event coming the other way.  It was a ride out rather than a race, but, as is usually the case with these kind of events these days, it looked to have been taken over by Lycra Clad Twats taking it far too seriously.  Until I came round a bend and, sitting proudly above a sea of dayglo synthetic fibres and bikes that cost more than I'd spend on a car, was an old boy on a Penny Farthing, complete with handlebar moustache, goggles and leather flying helmet.  Brilliant.

Also, I saw both an MG3 and an MG6 this evening, on the same drive.  Both looked to be privately (giffer) owned too.

there was an old fella at darlington today, same idea, handle bar moustache, plus fours... the whole nine yards.

he was riding some contraption with one big wheel on one side, and 2 much smaller, steering wheels on the other. which were controlled by a twisting handle thing.

i've never seen the like of it before. sadly i didn't get to take any pictures of it

To counter my massive moan in the grump thread, the rest of my 40th birthday weekend has been GR11. Eaten lots of cake, seen plenty of shite on our travels in the Cotswolds, and the 75 drove faultlessly. For such a heavy beast it's quite fun to drive on the twisties too.
