What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I was talking to Barrett about this yesterday. Once you've done a few miles in an LHM veined Citroen, nothing else ever quite seems as comfortable.

Certainly true. Other cars can be very comfortable, but hydro-Cits can make some bumps totally disappear. They can be a bit crap over potholes though.

OH brought me into Loughborough for a bit of brunch and stumbled across a massive gathering of classic cars. Lots of yank, some British but all a nice surprise. Already upset a Ferrari owner by suggesting a little too loudly I couldn't get a good photo of an XR4x4 because someone had parked a tedious Italian vehicle in the way.

Is there a football match on? Who's playing?

And why??

Had a somewhat eventful trip to the pub last night (thankfully the one without a telly).

Just started sipping my forth pint of ale when the window came in,  went out to investigate and ended up chasing a teenage chav halfway round the town.  He wasn't best pleased to see me tailing him whilst on the phone to the plod so followed me shouting abuse and tried to set about me in front of about twenty people.  He was pissed as fuck though so no harm done to me,  he ran off after getting walloped by a tiny blond girl of about 17 who had come over to check if I was ok  (I had no need to hit him back myself).  She knew him so gave the 999 operator his name when they called me back and I next saw him in the back of a riot van half an hour later.

Job done,  I reckon I should be good for a couple of free pints next time I'm out :)

Maybe you should reward the tiny blonde 17 year old with your very own 'award'?

Oh, meant to say. Spotted a lovely white X estate in Colchester yesterday. Very, very tidy.

Went to a brocante (car boot sale) today in one of the seaside towns here in the South of France. I had 50€ in my pocket, by the time I came out I had 10€ left and 9 x 1/43 scale shite cars that included a Citroen ZX, MK1 Renault Espace, Reanult 18 Estate, Mk1 Clio, Renault 5 and a couple of Alfas. The brocante had at least 3 or 4 stalls selling model cars, I only wish I had more cash with me otherwise I'd have a Seat Ibiza, Mk1 Range Rover, Mercedes E200 and a Renault 11 added to my collection.

Also whilst on the way there I spotted a Mk2 Rover 825SD outside of a breakers yard, the (very helpful) owner of the yard said it wasn't his but belonged to the land owner, the lacquer is peeling and its had a hit on the front but nowt I couldn't handle with the right part, tools and a weekend. I have the land owners number now but as I'm due to leave here in the next 10/12 days I simply won't have time to sort it out, but I do intend to speak to the owner, if the car can be had for small money, I may well be interested......

Coming back from the beach wiv the mutts (wet, smelly and very tired!) I followed TWO Lotus Elan S2s!  Both roof off, both mint. One was yellow and the other was green. Couldn't get over how tiny they are, the MX5 is small (by todays standards) and it dwarfed them. The yellow one was in front of me and we got stuck in traffic.... fook me, it wasn't half running rich!

On the subject of floaty French things, it has been suggested more than once to me that the solution* to the inevitable total failure of all Hydragas units is to fit BX/XM/Xantia spheres to the Princess.  Likewise, the solution to fuel consumption has been suggested to be the 1.9TD Bosch pumped unit.  I like these ideas, but what I really want to do is turn the Princess into an electric car because that would be bloody awesome.

I love the idea of converting an old car to electric. I spent a long time reading the DIY-EV forums trying to find out how much effort and money it would need. It's definitely something I'm going to do one day if I ever get a bit of cash to play with.

Spridgets are popular for conversions, I suppose they're very light with lots of room for batteries under the bonnet. I want this:

^ if it was a savvy car club i would have been chuffed but instead we got spunk trumpets in a mk4 golf and a corsa blaring out chooonz like it was a max power live sound off, the worse thing was the guys looked in their 30s, i did wonder if they spent their free time outside the local high school impressing teenage girls

Went over to the parents yesterday so I took the missus to all my old stomping grounds to watch the yoof of today trying to pull donuts in their 106's. We both pissed our selves laughing and decided to show the little shits how it was done! The look on their faces as a fat fxxker  ( me!) in a two ton e-class estate doing donuts was a joy to behold :-D . Really enjoying meself until I realised the black bands are £ 250 a corner!!

Mild grin to offset the door being kicked was the allegro passing its mot retest today.

At least that's something. The door kicking really sucks. Fuckwads.

The police said some other cars were damaged locally this weekend which is shit but it might be random as opposed to a targeted attack on me which I was getting paranoid about. Most folk in the town know me and my allegro.

As an antidote to that Brands Hatch knob bandit, some friends of mine are forming part of a gang currently driving a steam roller from John O'Groats to Land's End, they left JoG on June 6th with a Defender in tow as support and water cart and are currently stomping towards Exeter. The not needed thus far backup is a 1986 ERF E14 with a low loader trailer which has also done the whole trip without a hitch.

All in aid of charity too, if you CBA check out the loons at https://www.facebook.com/groups/773407786022950/?fref=ts

Wish I was with them, fuckin' awesome.

Oo I was in Exeter this lunchtime and saw them! At least I assume it was them; it's not an everyday sight (can't check the link as don't do Facebook).

Traversing the country at a leisurely idle pace is a great idea, I remember some blokes doing a similar journey in a milk float a few years ago and writing a book about it.

What's the route scruff?

I'm surprised they haven't got a coal lorry on tow.

Posted

They were on the A9 down to Perth, then Stirling - Lanark - Moffat - Eccelfechan - Carlisle - Penrith - Lancaster - Leyland - Acton Bridge - Fenns Bank - Ludlow - Hope-under-Dinmore - Gloucester - Bristol city centre (LOL) - Bridgwater - Taunton - Exeter - Alphington - Oakhampton - Lifton - Bodmin - Camborne - Penzanze - Land's End.

Coal is on the back up low loader which carted them north and will get the roller back home to Kent. Aiming for Land's End on Friday.
