Brewery tour tonight! And it's supposed to not rain*!

I once managed to organise a piss-up in a brewery, I was quite pleased with myself. :)

The Roads Service here in NI have Iveco Snowplough/gritters which seem to be running without silencers and they sound bloody marvellous... Definitely grinworthy.

Make the most of it. Iveco+salt won't be a happy or lengthy outcome.

What made me grin is the number of people who missed the irony in John's post on the last page... he's just being a WUM!

Cav, I'm sensing from your posts your not an Iveco fan? I totally see your point but they make some damned good engines. Pity about the rubbish they bolt (cable tie) around them

We all love a good vauxhall story, well poppa t rang me yesterday to say central locking had gone caput on his 04 Astra van and needed fuel but couldn't get the fuel cap open because of the central locking, so I told him to have a look inside as there must* be a manual way of opening it.

He fount it in the end, the I said check the battery in the fob, put a new one in and it's fine and local motor factors tested the key and said it's ok.

Now it's locking and unlocking many times a minute on its own as you drive along.

It's being dropped off at mine to have a look.

Gr8

Haha, they still do that? There is the central locking unit in the driver's footwell - they don't last long (Bosch or something?). I have also had the insane opening/closing thing. It currently opens when you lock it - it takes you about five goes before it locks. It's an easy fix.

The 2.8TD Daily was a blast, incredibly quick with a lovely power delivery. The rest of it, just like all other Ivecos, and as you rightly suggested was just rubbish bolted to it.

The 6 banger Euro Cargo was pretty good speed wise, but not a patch on the lovely Cummins engine 45s.

The 2.5 n/a Dailys were shit.

The 4 pot Euro Cargos absolutely have to rate in the top three (probably no. 1) worse engines ever made. Absolutely and utterly hateful.

I've just tried to work it out and I reckon I did probably between 350-400,000 miles in various Ivecos over about a 7-7.5 year period. I would honestly doubt I went a full week in that time without encountering a problem.

Just ballsed up my last post and lost what I typed about a sniff of things kicking off again.

No Des, we're all happy bunnies now.

But I did enjoy your horse picture. :D

Bloke looked like me but 20 years older. Rolls conked out as he was reversing. That's where he decided to park it before attempting to fit an electric bicycle in the boot. The bungee cord he used to 'secure' the tailgate looked suspiciously well used...

A pretty early Shadow I think, and it seemed in lovely condition - albeit there could have been rot hiding under all the mud. Looked like it lived on a farm!

Lolz, that's ace Ian! It's great observing old boy exploits like that.

I found this one the other day:

I still wind down the window to listen when I get overtaken by a scania V8. just lovely.

Some years ago I used to travel regularly on a Ford R-Series coach similar to the one below.

The engine note was beautiful and listening to it driving off after I got off at my stop was a highlight of the day.

Some time later, I got a girlfriend.

But what's the "pass mark"?  I got one wrong (I know: horror!) about a 90s BMW; a car I will never own.  What was the smallest engine in that body?  Who cares, I'd never be buying that version even if it wasn't a BMW!  Did have to lol at the Skoda question.  what's the model name?  So illustrate it with a pic of the back end of the car, showing the name for all to read.  Yeah well done.  And illustrating the "Austin" Maestro with a snap of the MG...

After all that, I have to agree with my crustacean friend.  Totally.

10/10 for me too. I did wonder about the BMW, but I guessed right. Quite a fun wee car quiz for a tabloid paper.

Posted

Only 50% for me. I got all the questions about 1980's cars right but that's where my knowledge/interest runs out I'm afraid.

Posted

80% is the pass mark apparently, which is what I got. Bit disappointed TBH but it was quite fun.
I think an Autoshite entrance exam would need some reference to Talbot Tagoras though.

10/10 but did have to guess the mazda. never even heard of miller cycle.

Posted

80% for me too embarrassingly. I got the Acclaim question wrong and the Mazda engine question wrong too. Not happy.

Posted

8/10 for me too.  Failed on the Sierra, can't remember the other one.  Micra I think.

DW's Silver Shadow/bike picture is just superb.

Posted

60% Got the honda question wrong, my veedub loving colleague fucked up on the vento question and put Jetta and the beemer question.

Did get the important bits right like the sierra, maestro and ZX question!

I agree, entrance exam
