Just got round to watching the first episode of the new series of black mirror that was on channel 4 yesterday.

That was one excellent televisual feast.

Makes me grin that there is no mention of the 'horse meat' thing on here.

Horse meat is perfectly normal fodder* for most of Europe. The UK response being the usual OMGWEAREALLGOINGTODIE kind of thing.

Thank fook everyone on here is above that/doesn't care/is vegetarian etc!

Exactly.

The birds in the office at work were getting all sqealy about it... 'Oh, how awfull, I'd never forgive myself for eating horse' 'Its disgusting, I'd be sick' etcetc.

I just see it as a cheap upgrade as I'm fairly sure horse is fairly expensive.

Horse is quite nice. It's a very good meat - usually quite lean, and as Findus have proven over the past 9 months the taste is not offensive!

I believe the worry is that if horse can sneak into cheap food, than so can pretty much anything. Has anyone seen tiddles recently? Also, horse meat isn't under the same scrutiny that beef is after the OMGMADCOW stuff years ago, so you can easily get horsemeat that's not that good to eat - painkillers and shit in there.

We just need to give it a name (eg "beef" not "cowmeat"), make sure it's not full of drugs, and label it properly. The last time I had it was from a Polish food outlet that opened up in an old corner shop, some rather tasty cooked burger things that had horse listed in the ingredients. Very nice.

I was amused by a radio phone-in where some woman was complaining that her daughter was distressed that she'd been eating horses for months. Firstly, it's your fault for buying crap food love, and secondly what's with picking on the cows? Are they not as cute? Bitch.

Doesn't look like much, does it? It's a film set, pretending to be Dublin in the 1940s. Where it actually is though, is Barrow, this very morning. Over my right shoulder is a corner shop where I deliver (award-winning) pies daily. The lady in the shop lives in the corner house that you can see all boarded-up; I think the Connolly Mechanics sign is hiding her bedroom window! Welcome to the Hollywood of Cumbria, folks, this way to see where the stars live...

Also, just sold a desk locally, so maybe now I can get on with setting up my office properly. Also, going to see an amateur production of The Gondoliers next week. I was in that in 1989 (centenary of the opera!) :D

Bit of a double edged sword that.

"We need to find a location that is utterly grim and will only take a marginal bit of tweaking to make it look a complete shit hole, an authentic 1940s Dublin".

"Found it!! Barrow!"

Im suprised the locals havent told them to sod off.

I don't think Sharon is far away from that point... they've been set-building for days, and it'll take days to take down. Meanwhile, she has no satellite dish, or daylight inside her home! I did suggest that she ask the costume department for some 1940s clothing so she could go from home to work and back, but she didn't seem to think much of the idea...

According to an ebay listing I was reading recently (for a car that had been used as background) Glasgow has been doubling for Philadelphia! And this is in a Brad Pitt movie, so hardly mini-budget.

Aye, 'World War Z' it's called. Seriously fucked up the city centre for a few weeks last year, my mate got some good shots of the carnage, I'll see if I can find them.

EDIT: Found them on his Facebook page. Duly thieved, sorry Ewan....

So wait..... let me see. Someone came to Glesga and broke a bit of it? Did anyone notice straight away? When I lived there 25 years ago or so, it was a proper fucking shithole, and I guess still is..... Could they not have flattened the place and started again?

we got a pile of old documents with our new house, which take the history back to the beginning of the nineteenth century, as well as a cannon ball from the Civil War found in the garden and a coin from 1739 from inside the house.

Oh, and the garage complex is huge, and all the cars fit on the driveway, with space to spare.

Just insured the KV6 today with Peter James for £280. Can't wait to get it now!

Collecting my much improved Peugeot Equipe racer this evening after some more tweaking. Done/had done quite a bit of work to this bike, should be loads better than original now without losing too much of it's charm.

Sadly I'm more happy about it because I can sell it rather than ride it, but needs must and all that.

Finding out the Co-op insurance takes NCD up to 3 years old - now I have a month and a half to find a modern...game on!

Speaking of KV6s, one pulled out of a parking space next to me and a mate the other day and it sounded absolutely lovely. He asked what engine it was, I said it was a KV6 and explained its a K series with TWO head gaskets, he thought I was taking the piss and simply refused to believe me that even rover would do something so mental.

Should probably be in the grumpy thread :D but today is the 30th anniversary of the day I met my missus. Can't believe how quick it seems to have gone, or how long we've lasted. £2.49 card, £5.00 Co-op flowers should do the job.

Also my son being delighted to bin off the 16" aftermarket alloys from his Corsa and getting up early to go to local Vauxhall dealer for his new standard wheeltrims, he really is chuffed to bits with them!

Ashamed to admit the 106 with flames coming out of its exhaust, which I saw last night whilst cycling home from el pubbo, actually looked quite cool. Pretty pointless though in a 10mph 3rd to 2nd in heavy traffic, though.

Someone is actually coming to look at the Saab tomorrow, fingers crossed they turn up ...

I left the bora at the garage this evening as I was in the middle of a job that I'll be finishing in the morning. Most of my shite was inaccessible, so I borrowed the 750cc Panda. I'd forgotten how much fun it is driving something properly shite. I was grinning all the way back, revving the nuts off the engine, pumping the hell out of the brakes. I need to get myself something similarly crappy for occasional use.

Was out running the other night and was cheered to be passed by my recently departed Nova, looking very clean, shiny and evidently well-cared for. Up til now I hadn't seen it since, it's good to see someone enjoying the fruits of your labour!
