I'd probably end up with 400 totally undrivable old wrecks in an massive shed.

+1! Mrs R would be less than pleased...

'At £450 it's worth more in scrap'. 'I can't look underneath it because it's on a low trailer'.

Reliably told the inside of the rocker cover looks like an explosion in a mayonnaise factory too, something he seems to have omitted from the advert!

It appears he is the proud owner of the OMG CLARKSON TOPGER Alfa 55. So a reliable, intelligent chap then.

The Poland sketch, combined with the following, made sure I very nearly wet myself. Only the stupidity of 80mph girl prevented me from embarrassing myself with laughter related incontinence.

Tis always the way. At least he hasn't ruined it completely.

The matt black bonnet will cost a few quid to get back to the original white, but it needs the n/s door painting anyhow.

what a massive muppet... at least he did finally heed the advice but it does raise a more important point, to him are wheels actually more important than cars? He seems to be selling it because he can't het dolly sprint wheels onto it. Hopefully the 1300will make an escape from the Fortress Mong.

Contraversially, I actually quite like the matt black bonnet. I think it can look quite cool on some cars. Reminds me of a car I had on my old Matchbox Powertrack (possibly an Avenger Tiger) that was light blue with a black bonnet if my memory serves me well.

The black bonnet as part of a period rally look with a nice set of ancient lucas spot lights could work really well... unfortunately I think it was merely accident that he stumbled on the good look, Like the proverbial monkey with his typewriter writing the line of "Is this a daggerwhich I see before me" followed by "nriewremr vomprmvlk ,. CQMCPQQMLCD".

Do you know, if he'd stuck at it with the red wheels, original hubcaps, some whitewall tyres and getting that door finished it would have looked like a really nice little thing. A bit different, not to everyone's taste, but smart enough. I hope whoever ends up with it treats it well.

Lots of good stuff occurring today.

SCTSH_ANDY keeps improving the 460 as he goes along. It needed a new alternator after the crazy pulsing of the regulator drove him insane. That and the lights doing the disco strobe and being a general wanker when cold. Fortunately I had one that had done 30 miles. It came off the 480 S that Pete M broke for me, and was of the few parts I didn't give to Chris when I sold him PUY. Problem solved for much cheapness. He also added my old Alpine CDA 9847R as a stop gap which has improved the tuneage situation immeasurably.

I finally got my D60 back which allowed me to experiment a bit with the M42 lens converter I picked up. A lot of the camera purists are dead against them because it uses a lens to correctly focus your chosen Communist Vertov eye to infinity. The flange focal distance of a Nikon means that this would otherwise be impossible, and they whinge because the quality of the lens on the adaptor (which is just a threaded ring with the lens in the centre) can't be verified before the mirrors in the camera body.

Yes, it does distort slightly if you're doing late night long exposures at stupid ISOs, but if I wanted to do that I'd just use my 18-55 kit lens. I was told by several experts that my photos would be shit and completely unusable. I must be blind. I wanted a cheap way of getting a 'nifty fifty' portrait lens, as I'm not exactly flush with cash at the moment. The proper Nikkor AF-S in lens fifties are over £100. By chance I went round to a friend's house who was raving about an old Zenit lens she was using for portraits on her Canon EOS 400D. It's known as a Helios 44-2, and is basically a mass produced Soviet copy of the Carl Zeiss Biotar lens. The fact they were produced in such enormous numbers mean you can pick one up for around £20.

Together with my M42 adaptor (another tenner) I had a portrait lens for sod - all. I'm very happy with the results. Fuck you, bearded types.

Pete - M also lent me some old camera equipment - namely a well stocked Praktica EE2. This came with several more M42 flavour lenses by Pentacon - a 1.8 50mm, a 2.8 29mm and a 2.8 135 mm telephoto. They're all rather good, too.

i like the corgi whizzwheels style bonnet, but not the rest of the car, or the owners attitude to advice :D

It was more this attitude to the advice from the Dolly boys i was surprised by plus the fact he now wants to sell it as he can't fit the wheels he wants!, i also quite like the bonnet but as morris says i think it's more luck when judgement but those red wheels looked shite!.

I bought an engine to rob parts off for an engine swap into my van. I need to use the flywheel off it, but was expecting a £120 hit for a new clutch. Popped the cover off to find:

Brand bastard new! still has the writing on the face, can't have done more than a couple of miles

Surprised someone e was actually able to express a negative opinion on RR without a wannabe mod coming down on them and demanding they start posting google image results instead

Today is the first day I've been out since bashing my knee on Saturday. Went to the Hospital for a check up on the knee. I arrived a little late for my appointment as I didnt know the Outpatients department was but I was still accepted and the lady at the desk made an appointment to give me time to go and park my car properly as I left in the 'pick up/drop off only zone'. After my appointment I tried to pay for my parking but my payment wouldnt be accepted from my card, so the bloke at Q-park desk just told me to drive up to the barrier and he'd wave me out, free parking!

Also, off tomorrow with Brad to Devon to pick up Brookjm's Sterling.

I like that bonnet and it was actually quite a popular modification in the '70's. Selling a car because you can't get different wheels is madness though. Also, as rusty as it might have been, I bet the fella who did the deal with the camper must have pissed himself.

BX has proved handy for wood collection. Such a nice feeling watching the back end sink while you hurl a quarter of a ton of wood in the back, then rising up when the engine is started. In fact, I had to start it up before I'd finished because with the back end low, my head kept catching the tailgate. I just wish the rear suspension arm bearings were a bit tougher - I'd feel better about carrying weight around in it then.

Even more annoying as the 2CV's rear arm bearings are about four times the size! Never had a 2CV wear out a rear arm bearing...
