congrats to Louise for having a baby and for minimad to be able to go solo

Louise, top tip:

the poo's meant to be black for the first day - don't panic about it!

Minimad, your top tip is ...

... buy a two seater!

COngratulations Louise, now its a few years of sleepless nights and smelling of baby food etc......... Though I guess it well worth it.

Congratulations Minimad on passing your test. I bet you cant wait to go out for the first time on your own, in a car, getting places faster than the bus/walking. I remember going out for the time in my Micra (Which I've still got!) You will enjoy ithe freedom of driving, for now at least...

well done sir :D

sat in the car park of the RVI in Newcastle this afternoon for 2 hours (avoiding the parking gadji, because i hadnt bought a ticket) and staring inanely at the road outside when a shitbrown Lada / Moskivich van drives past with some kind of livery on the rear panels - no photo as it was only visible for 10 seconds or so

Bigtime congrats to both of you!!

Both of these victories were pivotal for me - awesome times!!

I used to drive Minnie up to the moors (used to live in Haworth) in our shite cars to drift off to sleep, and then when I parked at the top, I'd fall asleep too - lulled by her sleep! Was lovely waking up with her surrounded by country...

First drive after passing test was in a Citroen LNA called 'Cheesey'. Was awesome - used to drive round Belfast using occasional alleyways to avoid RUC/Brits checkpoints cos I had no Insurance etc...

Good times....

Not a Rod Stewart fan but like one side of the Atlantic Crossing LP 'The Slow Side' :)

On YouTube found this, which was a very pleasant surprise indeed, made me grin like the proverbial Cheshire Cat, Amy Bell is wonderful and pretty with it. What a beautiful smile.

I'm a bit biased here as she looks like one of my former girlfriends.

(Tarantino in the audience too).

But the biggest grin was at the bit at the 3' mark :D:D:D

I discovered a while back that most of the stuff I like to listen to has a sax in it somewhere (Baker Street :D ) and this is magnificent.

She isn't just a pretty face either -

I'd hoped that my daughter Annika would progress to the sax, she played the licorice stick in school but we never had the money to be able to buy her a sax and she hasn't played for years now.

Is the dead turkey nailed to the coffin some sort of bizarre ritual?

Grin factor 11 here today as we got the pay rise we'd been chasing for a while. Fingers crossed the bonus we're getting we'll be enough for some horrendous 20+ year old French motorhome. Or maybe a better car (could be anything) and a Lambretta.

From what I recall of the episode of Rab C. Nesbitt it was a Viking helmet and a pair of biker boots...

Oh yes, Young Young McGurn, played by Maurice Roeves? Quality Autoshite in that show - all of it genuine.

Thanks to Earlpart and DHL  my Austin Cambridge now has a nice new pair of trackrod ends, delivered the next day in time for me to get to work in it. Also I've got a jamming session with my old band tomorrow - should be fun :D

Reminds me: a couple of years ago, after a fellow 2CVGB member's passing, his funeral cortege was formed - at his request - of 2CVs, Dyanes and Amis driven by friends from the club.

His 'hearse' - again, per instructions from the man himself - was a shabby, roller-painted-in-Dulux, Acadiane owned by a mutual friend, which Graeme (a 2CV specialist) had worked on many times. This was despite the Acad's loadspace being slightly shorter than its cargo, leading to some necessary yet amusing bungee cord action to keep everything in place.

I have no pics of the event itself, but Graeme may well have approved of this:

Congrats MM5.

My test was amusing.... one of the first where they were dishing out minors (faults, not Morris) and I don't think they'd quite grasped it as I honestly thought I'd failed but we got back and I'd got my licence. Think I got 7 faults.

One was for incorrect use of lanes - long sweeping bend on a dual carriageway, nothing around so I headed for the apex and then back to my lane. That, apparently, is wrong. Also wrong was doing it on the other side on the way back - another cross!

Two were for stalling twice on the turning-in-the-road-using-a-procedure-previously-called-a-three-point-turn and I got some more for road positioning I think, I've always driven too close to the centre. I blame years of riding cycles and wishing others did the same.

Take a tip though - get yourself a motorway lesson. Money well spent for sure, I did 2 hours on the M1 and it increased confidence levels both on the motorway and in normal driving. They'll generally take you on and off at a few junctions, explain about lanes discipline, advise on signs and a few hints on overtaking and stuff. It's just good experience, for some folk it's the first time they get the car up to 70mph (cough or 85 until the instructor prods you).

Like A Dicky, some top quality mail order service (ECAS 2CV parts for me) got me the part I needed next day, and the 2CV is finally back on the road! Does still have a slight oil leak, but not enough for it to be dropping much if at all, so sod it - that's fine! Drives very nicely after its service, though the clutch cable went 'twang' and leapt out of adjustment again. I fear the cable may be nearing the end...
