Saw a van today with the registration ****KKK. Obviously means nothing in Spanish. But I could not personally drive a vehicle with this registration to other European countries without getting some strange looks.

It's a Kent numberplate, I used to have a Suzuki GS650 Katana with the reg. A390 KKK

I received a letter today that the post office had not date stamped, therefore the stamps were unblemished.

Cue holding the letter over the boiling kettle to retrieve and reuse the stamps, $2 saved.

I am a tight git.

Received a heap of forms from the Swedish pension service to claim pension from the time I lived there.

Only five years since I originally asked the UK pension service to see to it, as they were supposed to.

Bit of a struggle trying to compose a cover letter in Swedish, 40 years after leaving there (under protest).

It's on the third page of the open forum and took me about thirty seconds to find.

Also as you have previously posted in it you could have just checked through the 'your content' bit of your profile page.

Not difficult.

I hope that one day the grin, grump and news 24 threads might return to being about actual motoring related stuff rather than just a pseudo Facebook news feed full of shit memes, posts about what people have had for their dinner and the perennial nobheads shouting their inane comments and antagonistic opinions at internet strangers who aren't interested.

Saw a white VW Golf MkIV Estate SDI at Tesco in Dover this afternoon.  The Holy Grail of post-2000 VAG spots.  Rare as Hen's teeth.

There's a burnt orange Polo Estate SDI in Deal and that's probably even rarer but it's on a pre-2000 plate.  Almost nobody bought an SDI Estate Golf. So far, I've only ever seen two and the other one was in the Fleet Air Arm Museum car park about two years ago.

Brightened up what would otherwise be a miserable day.

Isn't the whole point of grin/grump that they are off-topic? Doesn't anyone remember when the mods tried to put them in the open forum without warning, and mass outcry had them moved back into the main?

They're basically here on grandfather rights, and the fact they're part of the very fabric of the forum.

Now there's a thread that keeps itself afloat. ;)

Exactly the grump/grin threads are part of the bread n butter of AS. To suggest changing/moving/killing them is just bloody stupid.

I am surprised by this news as I have read that the the triple K is active in the UK. Thanks to all of those that corrected me.

How do you annoy the swedes enough for them to send you into exile? Did you have a dump on Carl Gustav's doorstep?

Unfortunately wife wasn't settled there.

We came back here amid the Thatcher chaos years.

Because of that and my old firm contacting me to see if I were interested in returning, we started selling stuff in preparation for the move and I went over to discuss it (when I arrived I saw in the papers that Columbia had exploded on launch, thought is was some kind of poor joke at first).

All went well except my passport had run out with the permanent work and residency permits in it.

A couple of months earlier and there would have been no obstacle.

Was blocked by the unions who wanted primarily only Swedes to work there at the time, although work and residence were guaranteed.

So the dream came crashing down around our ears.

Wife was all for it then as better prospects and better education for the kids.  Not to be, sadly.

Id best stay away then, I've not done anything car related for a while, something I must snap out of soon as the Zafira needs an mot in Feb, and I need to look at my brakes and buy some tyres before march when mines up.

Our house sold (again after previously falling thru) before Xmas. Christmas Eve we had an offer accepted. Now just heard that she has just had an offer accepted today and it's a no chain place too.

Best bit and the real grin (and really the only thing I care about ;) ) is this bit of the house we hopefully will get:

Yes both of them will be mine! :) :)

Not quite a dream (another set would be nice too but hey :D ) but something I've been lusting after for years. Especially when spannering outside in sub-zero temperatures and a cold breeze is blowing a bitterly wind.

Not getting my hopes up too far as a long way still to go and plenty of potential to things to fall apart very quickly. But it'll be a great day when I'm moving my tool chest into the best place in the garage and pushing my 1100 in through the door.

Have been worrying about an appropriate oil breather filter for the airbox on the galaxy for some time (it hasn't run right since I touched the crumpled pile of crap in there and it disintegrated. I hadn't held out much hope for a fairly obscure part but my periodic trawl of anything MK1 Galaxy on ebay has just swiped some genuine ford filters for £1.99.

I wasn't sure if grump or grin but settled here in the end.

Normally I get pissed off with stuff like incorrect cars that break my suspension of disbelief, but I enjoyed seeing an 18 year old BMW police car being hooned around in Dr Who so much that I forgave it and even grinned :)
