What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I've just been reading a thread on Pistonhead about a artical on the BMW 1-Series where it says that 80% of owners aren't aware that they are RWD.

http://pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=828261&mid=94980&i=0&nmt=RE:%201-series%20Buyers%20Think%20Their%20Car%20Is%20A%20Front-Driver&mid=94980

And i couldn't help but laugh at this twats comment, I think it's pretty much sums up many of the pistonhead users/BMW owners.

The 1 series looks like an upturned bath and drives like one too. Build materials are shocking too and the way they are put together is almost like a sealed unit, break it and throw it away.

Erm isn't this your car?

Which you think looks better than my 1 Series?

I've just waded through 14 pages of drivel on the Pistonheads thread. The sooner people twig that ALL cars are a pretty cynical marketing scam [skoda exempt OBV] the better

I'm having a regular argument with a guy at work (who happens to be an ex BMW technician) over the 1 series.

He claims that after initially hateing the thing, he now quite fancies a 2 door 1 series, and that they remind him of an E30

I still claim that the sills look like a really fat bastard has sat in it and made it sag in the middle! I can accept the rest of the car, just not the droopy sills.

He did point out that they have a magnesium alloy block.

This means great weight distribution :D

BUT also means that all the bolts have almost no "feel" as you do them up and need to be torqued up. It is fully expected that when they reach the backstreet garage / diy market, people will shear things off left right and centre, drill them out and replace them with a steel bolt.

The electrolyitc reaction between the metals will literally make the block disolve!! :o

bet thats a cracking read barrett

i read House Mother Normal once, it was very trying

think i still have a copy somewhere, if you want to read it

I too have plowed though the pistonheads thread , There seems to be a general hate of BMW owners everywhere I look ,

I have one, abate an 86 E30 , I suppose you all hate me now

I love the looks of the pre Bangle BMW and especially the E30. Sadly a lot of them fall into the hands of complete twats and thus ruin the image. I ask you, is there anything that says "wanker" any more clearly than a 316/8 coupe with an M3 styling kit?

I made a start this morning and so far it's great. He basically starts off by saying 90% of people that are reading it have probably never read a book by Johnson, which is odd but probably true.

I might just take you up on that offer for HMN, sad to say I've only ever read The Unfortunates (which I loved), and that was years ago, but I've always been slightly fascinated by the man himself. Annoyingly because all his books were out of print for so long, the only way to read him now really is a rather expensive anthology, no chance of picking up cheap second-hand paperbacks which is how I normally get all my books.

This guy has lots of Johnson's filmed material on his youtube page, well worth a look

Saw this on sickipedia, made me chuckle;

I've just renamed my wifi network to "Police Surveillance Van #02".

That should keep my pikey neighbours on their toes for a while.

My mate is selling some fishing gear on ebay.On every item he has had the same question. This is the reply:

Q: Can you post to Malaysia and if can, how much the postage charge? How old is the cloth? Regards, 16-Dec-10

A: Hi The cloth is around 200 years old and been matured in the Anus of a dead mountain goat the zip has been chriogenically frozen and belonged to the six million dollar man we had to prize his sethered arm out of the coat before we stole the zip and the logo was embrioded by an accient singing chinese blind man beleived to have mystical powers and be over 150 yrs of age. However the only drawback is the courier I use only has a blow up dingy from Toys r us, although one of there better models it could take up to 3 yrs for him the get there and if he gets abducted by modern day pirates the ransom could outway the cost of the jacket so i'm afraid I can't post you. Hope this helps. Kind regards and merry Xmas.

Spelling mistakes aside...made me chuckle

Basically, I was at the airport when SNO KAOS ensued leading I was interviewed along with every other english speaking person in the airport, the first I knew about it was when my phone started going completely mental!

I've got one of those LCD pen watches somewhere, still in it's box!!

I shall spend a hour or so looking through that Argos book later - great stuff. :D

OMG SNO KAOS hit Birmingham. Went out for a bit of a walk and take some pics as was bored. Ended up helping some people shift thier cars, by the time I came back I was absolutaly covered in snow.

Roundabout near my house was pretty gridlocked, and for some reason people were trying to get up the main road which has a steep incline coming off the roundabout.

Bottom of hill:

Top of hill:

Was funny to watch this bloke tear across the roundabout, the roundabout was blocked due to loads of people trying to get up the steep hill so I guess it was the only way

This was my road:

Apart from that, I bought some model cars from Brammy, they were better than I expected.

Bought some Rover 800 posters off evil-bay too, hopefully they will be here soon.

I live at the top of a steep hill when we had the last load of snow it was only me and my missus who could get our cars up the hill, snow chains FTW. :D

^^How could you do an anthology which features "Unfortunates"? It was published looseleaf, and the reader could re-paginate the novel any way they saw fit. How could a bound anthology possibly duplicate that? Or books with holes carved through sections to allow "foreshadowing"? Do they sell the anthology loose leaf as well, and give you scissors?

Ok I should've been clearer. the anthology doesn't have The Unfortunates of course, but three of his other books (House Mother Normal, Albert Angelo and Trawl I think)

Seeing a mint black Standard Ensign in the petrol station this morning made me grin. No pic unfortunatly as it was very busy with people filling up before the OMG! SNOW! CHAOS! returned.

I almost forgot, I saw a Datsun 120Y coupe last night in central Brighton. I'm sure I recognised it from R-R. If I'd had my camera it would've been my spot of the year...

I saw TWO Mk2 Cortinas in the snow of South Wales yesterday. Well, it might have been the same one as we didn't really know where we were going at the time. I was bloody impressed though! IN UR FACE TRACSHUN CONTROL!
